As per Italian Law, Saipem SPA appointed on 30th April 2010 an EnergyEnergyManagerManager, a figure in charge for promoting energy saving initiatives in Italiansites. Those iniziatives will be shared in a worldwide scale for improving Saipemoverall environmental performance.

    SAIPEM ENERGY MANAGER

The Energy Manager has the task to promote the development of an EnergyEnergyManagement SystemManagement System in compliance with the European Standard EN 16001

Energy management systems. Requirements with guidance for use.

The Energy Manager will start to assess the energy use of Saipem sites in

Italy, and he will develop, coordinate, and implement strategies and policies toreduce energy consumption and/or increase renewable energy production/useand thus reduce GHG and air emissions.

Saipem Energy Manager is continuouslyinterfacing with other ENI Energy Managers and

cooperates with them in defining commonobjectives and strategies.

Of course, for reducing energy consumptions we have to monitor them(as electricity and fuel) in order to identify critical areas and promoteeffective initiatives for reduction.

For this reason Corporate QHSEDepartment requires aperiodical reliablereliable and traceabletraceabledata reporting.

Note: This shall be carried out by usingdata as detailed in bills.

Corporate QHSE DepartmentCorporate QHSE Department will start an identification andassessment of all energy saving initiativesenergy saving initiatives ongoing in differentsites or projects, in order to support and promote them, meeting the objective of sharing experiences and bestpractices.

The core message in the first poster is each one of us, with verysmall efforts in changing lifestyle and completely free, can makea difference adopting a responsible behaviour.

    YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE

Each people working for Saipem shall be aware that he may play animportant role in the overall consumptions balance and some easyactions shall be performed for a reasonable use of energy.

Each one of us in the everyday life uses electronic devices, or drivevehicles or move equipment in different sites.

Each one of us has the duty to switch off when stops working.

Energy can easily be savedEnergy can easily be saved byby adoptingadopting easyeasy technicaltechnical andand

    operationaloperational improvementsimprovements..

Replace incandescent light bulbs with compact fluorescent light (CFL)bulbs.

Fluorescent lamps can give the same amount of light as incandescent bulbs, lower

power consumption (to 80%) and much longer lifetime (5 to 15 times). Eventhough the purchase price of an integrated CFL is typically 3 to 10 times greaterthan that of an equivalent incandescent lamp, the extended lifetime and lowerenergy use will compensate for the higher initial cost.

When LEDs replace incandescent bulbs, there is also the added advantage of

reducing Air Conditioning requirements inthe summer.

If you think to renew offices or similar facilities, evaluate to replace neonor other kinds of lamps with LED lamps.

LED lamps last till 20 years, produce natural, uniform and no-flickering light.

    TIPS FOR ENERGY-CONSCIOUS INVESTMENTS

Install motion detectorsmotion detectors or dimmers to control lighting infrequently unoccupied areas, such as meeting rooms orrestrooms.

Evaluate to install NightWatchingNightWatching softwaresoftware to shut down

automatically electronic equipment at a set time and restart themin the morning. This system securely, remotely and centrally powers down PCs, ensuringthat current work and data are kept safe.

    TIPS FOR ENERGY-CONSCIOUS INVESTMENTS

    SwitchSwitch toto greengreen energyenergy

Energy providers may obtain a portion of their energy from renewablesources and this can be sold as green energy. Buying under your

regular providers green tariff is a small step in the right direction.

    TIPS FOR ENERGY-CONSCIOUS INVESTMENTS

HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, & Air Conditioning) IMPROVEMENT TIPS

Install a thermostat in order to regulate and keep under controltemperature values. The more comfortable temperature is 20C in the winter and 26C inthe summer. It is realistic to foresee an increased consumption of 7-

8% for each degree more or less than the above values.

Consider replacing old HVAC systems with new, energy-efficient systems.

Reduce HVAC operating hours as applicable.

Eliminate HVAC usage in vestibules and unoccupied space.

Keep doors closed when air conditioning is running.

Install time clocks or programmable thermostats to turn off systems when the

    building is unoccupied.

Perform scheduled maintenance or units including cleaning condenser coils, replacing air filters regularly, tightening and replacing belts, and checking ducts

    and pipe insulation for damage.

Consider to improve the insulation of the building!

The reduction of idling provides benefits (besidesenvironmental, as reduction of air emissions) in

terms of reduced fuel consumption and engine wearand consequently it is effective for saving money.

Idling control technologies use may be preferredwhere economical.

Technologies are available which automatically shutthe engine off after a preset time.

In addition, collective vehicles should be preferred for transportation of personnel

(buses, minibuses), especially at peak, in order to optimize fuel consumptions andimpact in a lower way on the existent traffic.

Evaluate to substitute diesel generators togenerate electricity.

Prefer network connection or alternativesolutions, as photovoltaic panels

installation on roofs, where convenient.A feasibility study may be easily carried out toevaluate convenience.

Especially in desert and sunny areas it is highly recommended to installphotovoltaic panels to generate electricity for domestic uses (e.g. for offices, accommodation camps).
