The Green Academy State Energy Sector Partnership This training is one element of a comprehensive career plan and job obtainment strategy. It is recommended that other elements an accurate and complete resume, comprehensive job search, interview and interpersonal communication skills – be included in your strategy. See your DWS Career Advisor for available services. Environmental Control Technology (HVAC) This program looks at HVAC systems as they relate to energy-efficient building. Understanding heating and cooling systems, building envelop, types of audit equipment, and heat loss calculations are critical components of energy management in both commercial and residential structures. Students will be taught about HVAC system types, the refrigeration cycle, air duct design, proper insulation, psychrometrics and energy conserving retrofit options. Students will participate in classroom and hands-on experience outside of the classroom with guidance from highly qualified instructors who work in the industry. This opportunity is ideal for students with prior industry experience who would like to advance in their career, learn a new skill, or explore the growing field of Energy Management. Program Hours: 180 Prerequisites: Math for Industry and Basic Electrical Theory courses are required. Basic Energy Certificate recommended. Courses: HVAC Energy Analysis I HVAC Energy Analysis II Commercial A/C Systems Analysis Energy Control Strategies Certificates & Testing Process: Upon completion, students will receive a Environmental Control Technology (HVAC) Certificate of Proficiency from Salt Lake Community College. In January 2010, Utah Department of Workforce Services (DWS) was awarded a $4.6 million State Energy Sector Partnership (SESP) grant to provide workforce training that would prepare Utahns for employment in the energy industry. The SESP grant provides qualified participants an opportunity to receive training at no cost to the individual. Training must be completed by December 21, 2012.
