What is an environmental disaster

“An environmental disaster is a disaster that is due to human

activity and should not be confused with natural disasters. In

this case, the impact of human alteration of the ecosystem

has led to widespread and long-lasting consequences. It can

include the deaths of animals (including humans) and plant

systems, or severe disrupt of human life, possibly requiring

migration.”

Their impact – on Earth/People

Houses, buildings, and other structures can be destroyed;

Loss of power;

Fire;

Loss of habitat;

Contaminated water;

Toxic gases released into the atmosphere;

Carbon dioxide emitted from volcanoes adds to the natural

greenhouse effect;

Trees fall;

Diseases;

Page 10: Environmental disasterspp

Tornadoes can hit hazardous or toxic materials which can carry

by a thunderstorm and then be transported along ways down

stream;

Destroy topsoil and crops;

Dried up lakes and other water sources;

People use more fuel during droughts;

Lack of food and drinking water for wild animals;

Increased stress on endangered species;

Wind and water erosion of soils, reduced soil quality;

Their impact – on Earth/People

Small changes to help save the

planet

Recycle;

Reduce the use of fossil fuels;

Pay attention how we use the water;

Try not to use your car so much. Instead, use

public transport;

Use fluorescent light bulbs;

Use as many natural light as you can;

Don’t let the electronic devices in stand-by;

Use rechargeable batteries;

Try to use your email instead of paper;

Conclusion

With this project work we learned that there is many

environmental disasters and the most part of the natural disasters

have a small help from mankind.

The environmental disasters are very dangerous and can put in

risk thousands of lives (humans and animals) and a lot of species

loses their habitat which can cause the extinction of many

species.

We also learned that with small changes at our homes and in our

daily lives we can make the difference and help save the planet.
