- ASSOCIATE OF APPLIED SCIENCE Environmental Lab and Field Technology Concerned about the quality of our air, soil and water? The Environmental Lab and Field Technology program will give you the skills to perform laboratory and field tests to monitor our environmental resources and determine the contaminants and sources of pollution. The national employment outlook is good as demand is fueled by the need for skilled technicians that can regulate waste products, collect air, water and soil samples to measure levels of pollutants, monitor compliance with environmental regulations and cleanup of contaminated sites. Environmental technology is changing how nations utilize scientific monitoring and data to develop sustainable energy systems, green energy policies, and compliance standards. An environmental tech may work for a company or organization, as a consultant, or in the field. An environmental tech may collect and test samples or make sure the company that he or she works for is in compliance with all environmental laws and regulations at the local, state, and federal levels. Why study environmental lab and field technology? This major prepares students to perform tasks associated with field and laboratory of gasses, soils and water for testing. You will learn the skills needed to perform laboratory and field techniques to determine their environmental quality. Then with the results of your tests you will be able to manage these resources by abating, controlling or remediation of the sources of environmental pollution. Career choices Professionals with their Environmental Technology – Laboratory and Field Technician AAS could work in a variety of careers, including: • Environmental consultant • Environmental auditor • Soil technician • Air quality technician • Water quality technician • Lab technician • Environmental field technician • Environmental technician • Environmental health and safety technician • Environmental engineering technician Focused courses for your degree This program focuses on the skills needed to collect and analyze air, water and soil samples in courses like water resource management, Lab and field techniques and soil science. In addition, you will study GPS, GIS, basic chemistry, fish and wildlife and geology for a complete environmental education.
