iDENtifyiNg gOalsE.ON Bulgaria EAD, a utilities organization that provides electrical distribution
networks to Northeast Bulgaria, searched for a complete and unified network
information system (NIS) for its electricity network assets, including geographic
information system (GIS) support. The NIS needed the ability to create a technical
system that can be integrated into other systems and implemented into
system connections.
Besides its basic property management function, the structure of the NIS would
make it suitable for supporting any business process that requires information
about the physical location of technical objects, the relationships between these
objects, or their technical parameters.
The implementation of the NIS should strengthen the change management of
technical network data stored in the connected systems, eliminating redundant
databases and saving a significant amount of cost and effort. It will eradicate
contradictory data because the data of a single object is only control-loaded into
the system once.

•Meet the existing needs of E.ON Bulgaria EAD Grid
•Enable employees of E.ON Bulgaria EAD Grid to capture geographic data
rEaliziNg rEsultsIn May 2010, E.ON Bulgaria EAD implemented a GIS based on Intergraph’s
G/Technology and G!NIUS software. The project began November 2009 in an
effort to improve existing information flow within the company, and to enable
employees to gather geographical data in a professional environment.
For this implementation, Intergraph and E.ON Bulgaria team members analyzed
existing data in AutoCAD and Microsoft® Access® and developed a concept for
data migration in the system. Currently, existing data is migrating to the system
for substations, transformers, and medium voltage network application settings.

executed a successful system based on the most powerful
server configurations at E.ON Bulgaria.
Particularly important to E.ON Bulgaria EAD is the availability
of accurate and timely information on the electrical distribution
system, combined with visualization of the terrain. Intergraph
G/Technology’s aerial laser scanning and digital imaging of
the ground surface allows E.ON Bulgaria EAD to collect this
information on the low voltage overhead network. The collected
information is then entered into the GIS and available for all units
of the company.
E.ON Bulgaria EAD’s implementation of an NIS based on
G/Technology in 2010 was the first successful step to having
a database for storing the history of energy data accompanied
with an instrument for control and analysis of reported energy, a
basis for forecasting, and quick access to current information and
analysis in real time. The NIS gave E.ON Bulgaria EAD control
and analysis of reported energy from commercial electricity
meters, control of performed corrections of basic data, and
calculation of energy balance and purchased energy. The
company launched the information technology program, Grid
Data Management System, to serve as a separate system for
accessing and managing all stored and processed data.
“E.ON Bulgaria EAD is pleased with Intergraph’s G/Technology
solution to facilitate our grid data capture and assessment,” says
Krasimir Ivanov, Head of Grid Strategy & Development, E.ON
Bulgaria EAD. “Our network information system gives all of our
employees access to data capture information formerly unavailable.”
mOviNg fOrwarDE.ON Bulgaria EAD plans to enrich its data capturing capabilities
with more elaborate interfaces using SAP PM, SCADA, Neplan,
EDM, and other local solutions that enable the exchange of data.
In early 2011, E.ON launched its Energy Data Management
System to expand the functionality of its NIS to cover all requirements
of the system for energy data management. This project will be
implemented in mid-2012.
