DANGER

This instrument is not designed to be explosion proof. Using the ozone monitor in a location where flammable or combustible gas is present can cause explosion. Never use the ozone monitor in such locations.

Never introduce a sample gas which has high pressure than its specification limit into the monitor. It can cause each container and part to be damaged or disrupted, which results in ozone leakage.

WARNING

If there are ozone smell, confirm whether the ozone monitor has enclosure crack, piping damage and slackness on joints or not after power switch was turned off.

The monitor has a high voltage power source for igniting the mercury lamp use (normal condition: typical 200 V AC and when ignition: typical 1000 V AC at a moment). As you may have an electric shock when adjusting and/or repairing the monitor, it is recommended to perform its works with a specialist.

UV rays emitted from the low-pressure mercury lamp may harm your eyes and skin. Do not attempt to take the low-pressure mercury lamp out of the holder or look at it while it is turned on.

CAUTION

When replacing the parts and also when connected and disconnected the interface cable (cable for connecting the multi-point controller, Model EC-755), it should be performed after when power supply was stopped. And then, take care so as not to give mass of the cable on the monitor. The monitor may have a trouble if it is used under condition when the cable is pulling and/or adding with the excessive force. Regarding connector, it should be surely fixed with screws and also fixed the cable mount by using the union band.

Do not affect a shock and /or vibration to this monitor, this instrument is a precise equipment.

CAUTION

Caution items when put the monitor (densitometer) in use

Sealing materials such as joint and packing etc. which are used in the monitor, are not intended to be effective permanently. These materials are deteriorated by ozone gas and other material and this may cause in ozone gas leakage. Perform the increased tightening of the joints and check and replace these materials regularly (every 1~2 years) by our service man.

When confirmed ozone leakage or if smelling the ozone, please check the related equipments contained with the monitor at once. In case of installing dissolved ozone monitor, consider about ozone leakage so as to set a drain pan at the bottom for pre venting its magnification of flow out.

Withstand pressure force in the monitor has its limit. Never introduce into the monitor a sample of which pressure is higher than the limit. Otherwise, it would cause a leak. Don’t forget to check the pressure specifications of the monitor and to perform periodical inspections.

The low-pressure mercury lamp as consumable part contains harmful component to the humans, so that the used lamp should be scrapped in accordance with your local regulation.

In case of removing the monitor from the related device when maintenance and etc, confirm that there is not the residual ozone (the indicating value of the ozone concentration is 0) and perform the works after when the power supply shut down. Still more, even for replacing the parts, perform this works after turning off the power supply surely.

If the sample water contains materials other than ozone, such as hydrogen fluoride and moisture, the inner part of the monitor which is exposed to water may be eroded, damaged or clouded. In case that the monitor had trouble and it becomes impossible to measure ozone by influence of another material, take care that the monitor will not be guaranteed, even if it is in the warranty term.

When a sample gas measurement is finished, it should be discharged after decomposing ozone.

1 General description

This equipment is a small size and light weight dissolved ozone monitor with the possibility of In-line type continuous measuring and it is composed of EL-700A detector unit which can detect ozone in water and EC-755 control unit which can indicate ozone concentration and also control the detector. It is mainly attached to the ozone supplying devices for study experimentation or process control and is developed and manufactured to monitor ozone concentration as main object.

The equipment is not necessary to measure the follow-up zero as it is usual equipment. Regarding zero correction, as the equipment introduces zero water into it at when electric power is switched on, and in others, it is performed once a day, it can be measured ozone concentration in steady state. Zero correction is possible to adjust zero point simply and also regularly by using outside signal to EC-755 or switches on the front panel. A corrected value to the zero point is keeping even if electric power is switched off.

Regarding of correcting sample water, it should be collected if the supplying source has its water pressure, a piping can be connected directly from the spot to the detector, and when has not the water pressure, a pump must be used.

2 Measuring principle

This equipment is an UV absorption type ozone monitor which detects and measures quantity of absorption of UV rays by ozone in the sample water introduced into the detector. A low-pressure mercury lamp (emission wavelength 253.7 nm) is used for the light source. As the quantum of light absorbed by ozone existing within the optical path ‘T’ obeys the Lambert-Beer’s Law, concentration of ozone can be measured as follows.

A Io C = × log αT Ix where : C α T I o I x A

= Ozone concentration = Specific absorption coefficient = Path length of cell = Light intensity through the sample free of Ozone = Light intensity passed through sample Ozone = Constant

The normal pressure and maximum withstand pressure become to be the decided value on condition that the water temperature and ambient temperature are in their specific temperature range (5 ~ 40°C). If the monitor is used in the different range from its temperature specification, it could result in leakage trouble because the materials such as seal portion, fitting and piping made of PFA/PTFE have much expansion or compression by temperature change. And then, it is confirmed that PFA/PTFE has a permeable character for ozone gas, so that its gas can be permeable though the optical cell block and will make to corrode the parts inside of the monitor when using it on condition that ozone has too much concentration (more than 100 mg/L) and also the pressure is applied. At that time, to prevent the phenomena, it can be done to purge the ozone gas in the monitor by a purge air. Still more, for the details, please consult us.

This instrument is not designed to be explosion proof. 5 ~ 40°C, 80% RH below (not condensed) 5 ~ 40°C

In case that the monitor is used under 10°C, please consult us. To prevent the dew-drop, flowing the purge gas according the degree of Humidity is necessary. (5) Connecting the piping for sample

Connecting method to the piping is differing in each model code of the detector unit, so as to be large caliber or small caliber (see the following table). If connected each piping with much difference, much pressure more than ones of the same caliber is applied by pressure loss and also it may has a possibility to become source of the bubble. Use the pipes as same as possible in connecting the each one to prevent the density decline by destructing phenomena of the ozone, and supply and drain the ozone water.

① Install a stop valve having withstand ozone characteristics between diverging point of sample

water and inlet of the detector unit, and perform work so that it can stop sample water and also can adjust its flow-rate. If equip the flow-meter, as you can confirm the flow-rate, it is convenient. To install the filter will avoid dust for mixing the sample and make to reduce generation of failure.

② Be sure to use ozone registration materials for piping/fitting and valve. And then, regarding piping, make it with very few vending position in the distance as short as possible.

③ Perform the piping so as not to add force on the fitting.

④ When changed material water or also when using the monitor for long term, perform regularly to adjust zero point by supplying water without ozone.

⑤ When water temperature is low (less than 5°C) in comparison with ambient temperature may sometimes put out of order for indicating the measured value because surface of the optical cell will make a dew drop. Perform to rise its water temperature or reduce the room humidity so as not to make the dew drop. In case of performing the measuring in these environments, please consult with us (our company) about this problem.

Case 1 : In case of sample water without pressure, it must be sucking by using the pump. Regarding the pump, a by-pass valve (needle valve) should be installed in parallel with it and perform to adjust its flow-rate. Even if the pump is installed at the place before the detector unit, its measuring is possible. And then, it is convenient to install a flow-meter between the detector unit and its pump because flow control can be done.

Case 2 : In case that there is much flow rate in the main piping, the measuring is performed as sampling method. And then, install a needle valve and etc. and perform to adjust the flow rate, so that ozone water can not flow in excess. In the other way, if the flow-rate is too little, please take care that ozone has destructed in the piping and the detector unit may have to measure the corrected concentration value.

Case 3 : When all quantity of ozone water is flowed, it can be measured in condition that a needle valve is installed for maintenance.

(6) Connecting of the earth cable

Please use the earth cable which is higher than thickness AWG18( 1.02mm in diameter). ※ It is not grounding for safe protection. The detector side, after having performed crimp of round solderless terminal (M4.3 use), please

connect the earth cable using earth terminal (M4). The connection of the grounding side, after having performed crimp of round solderless terminal suitable for the thickness of the earth cable, please connect the earth cable to ground terminal of the device or frame GND (F.G).

CAUTION

When use sample water (example; pure water) which static electricity is easy to produce, please ground by all means. Otherwise, electrostatic charged phenomenon is caused in a measuring portion (cell block) and the plumbing department of the detector, the indication of the monitor disappears and may malfunction.

8 Measuring procedure

8.1 Preparation before the measurement

(1) The detector unit, EL-700A and its control unit, EC-755 should be connected with interface cable. In this working, be sure to confirm that the electric power is not supplied to the control unit (if supplied, the equipment may have defect).

(2) Make to flow the zero water after confirming the fitting having no slackness.

(3) Supply power source (24 V DC) to EFC-755 control unit of the monitor, and then, its detection unit EL-700A is supplied with this power. Then, the internal electronic circuit becomes to be operated and it will light the mercury lamp.

(4) The warming-up operation (10 minutes) is started soon (leave the detector unit on condition that zero water is flowing).

(5) Perform to adjust the zero point after warming-up operation. ※ Refer to an instruction manual of EC -755.

8.2 Measurement

(1) Supply ozone water to EL-700A detector unit, and start to measure ozone concentration.

(2) Ozone concentration value and each kind of signal outputs become outputs from EC-755 control unit.

~ In order to measure in steady state ~

10 minutes for warming-up operation is the minimum required time till a low-pressure mercury lamp in the detector unit, EL-700A becomes to be in steady state. If required that it is more steady state in order to have measuring & detecting, it should be perform zero correction again after passing three hours over from when power was turned on, and also perform zero correction once a day. Still more, even if the monitor is not used for long term, it is recommended that the monitor is always supplied with power source.

Page 19: EOP-D65-002-041-05E EL-700A 取説(英文) · EOP-D65-002-041-05E E.J. OZONE PRODUCTS INSTRUCTION MANUAL DISSOLVED OZONE MONITOR Model EL-700A Detector Unit Published on March 02,

E.J. OZONE PRODUCTS 18

CAUTION

If the sample water contains materials other than ozone, such as hydrogen fluoride and moisture, the inner part of the monitor which is exposed to water may be eroded, damaged or clouded. In case that the monitor had trouble and it becomes impossible to measure ozone by influence of another material, take care that the monitor will not be guaranteed, even if it is in the warranty term.

9 Span calibration

As this equipment was designed and manufactured paying attention to take a high stability on the electronic circuit operation and still more the monitor was calibrated when shipping so that changing the calibration ratio and/or adjusting the equipment is not required over again. If the measured value is different from value that it is gotten by analyzing the Ozone water and if it has to fit the analyzed one, perform its calibration according the following procedure.

(1) Perform zero correction according to “Preparation before measurement, item 8.1”.

(2) Supply ozone sample water to the detector unit, EL-700A.

(3) The measured value should be recorded after when indication of the monitor becomes to be in steady state.

(4) Perform the analyzing ozone water, and fit the indicated value to one of analyzed ozone. For detail, refer to the following. And yet, adjustable span range is ‘0.001’~ ‘2.000’and its adjustable minimum value is 0.1 % notch of full scale.

Span of this equipment is calibrated and adjusted when shipping. When there is difference between measured value of sample water and your one of analyzed ozone, value of span calibration ratio on the span setting display appeared when pushed enter switch (see item 4.1 (2) “Setting mode” on the instruction manual, EC-755) as formula of the new calibration ratio is,

“your analyzed value ÷ measured concentration value” × “old span calibration value on the display”. Example of calculation where;

Indicated concentration value ······································· 20.2 mg/L Analyzed value ································································· 18.3 mg/L Span calibration ratio when shipping ·························· 1.021

Thus, new span calibration ratio = 18.320.2 × 1.021 ≒ 0.925

In this case, span calibration ratio of this monitor should be revised to ‘0.925’.

(5) There is the following method in order to analyze the ozone water.

① Look for concentration by performing the chemical analysis. • Collect sample used for chemical analysis. And at the same time, record indication on

the control unit of monitor. • Perform chemical analysis of collected sample by using Iodometric method or another

one.

② Measuring instrument (standard unit) that the chemical analysis performed and also confirmed, is put in the same flow channel and fit the indicating value on the monitor to one of this standard unit.

(6) Span calibration ratio of this equipment is shown on the name plate of EL-700A control unit and

monitor test report when it’s shipping. Please refer to them if you use the value when shipping the monitor.

A low-pressure mercury lamp is in state of high temperature after power turned off. Handle it with paying much attention to it till after when the temperature has decreased.

UV rays emitted from the low-pressure mercury lamp may harm your eyes and skin. Do not attempt to take the low-pressure mercury lamp out of the holder or look at it while it is turned on. When working with the monitor, the anti UV ray glasses should be used.

The low-pressure mercury lamp as consumable part contains harmful component to the humans, so that the used lamp should be scrapped in accordance with your local regulation.

The monitor has a high voltage power source for igniting the mercury lamp use (normal condition: typical 200 V AC and when ignition: typical 1000 V AC at a moment). As you may have an electric shock when adjusting and/or repairing the monitor, it is recommended to perform its works with a specialist.

(2) Adjustment of intensity of light

Basically, this monitor is not needed to adjust light intensity. But in some case when replacing a mercury lamp, it may need to be adjusted light intensity. If

indicate error after replacement of mercury lamp, perform to adjust this instrument in accordance with following procedure. And when it does not appear, it can be used with no problem.

The tools which it is necessary: driver and precious minus driver 1.0 mm (extra fine)

① Perform warming-up operation for over than one hour with the front cover. (In case of doing the adjustment, perform warming-up operation sufficiently till the instrument becomes to be in steady state.)

② Indicate sensor 1 (S1) for light quantity of the indicator. At this time, it’s adjustment is not needed if the indicating value of light quantity value is 2700±300.

③ Turn a trimmer VR1 (see figure - 11) with precise driver and set the light quantity value to 2700±100. Three sheets of PCB are assembled in parallel inside of it and trimmer is assembled on the top of all.

④ This will make to indicate light intensity of sensor 2 (S2) on the indicator. Turn VR2 with precise driver and set the indicated light intensity to 2700±100.

Page 25: EOP-D65-002-041-05E EL-700A 取説(英文) · EOP-D65-002-041-05E E.J. OZONE PRODUCTS INSTRUCTION MANUAL DISSOLVED OZONE MONITOR Model EL-700A Detector Unit Published on March 02,

CAUTION

The indicating value of light intensity when adjustment, ambient temperature is 25±2 °C.

As light intensity will change, if the indication value of light intensity is setting to 2700 in lower temperature than the above, this instrument will become error when the temperature increased. So be careful about this matter.

There is a possibility that inside of the cell has a stain, when the indication value of light intensity before its adjustment, is the half value or less as compared with the one of sensor 1 (S1). Please have an inspection by any specialist.

impossible to perform zero correction.

spotted of optical cell There is a possibility for spotted of the cell, if the light quantity value of sensor 2 (S2) is lower than half in comparison with sensor 1 (S1).

If the sample water contains materials other than ozone, such as

hydrogen fluoride and moisture, the inner part of the monitor which is

exposed to water may be eroded, damaged or clouded.

When it is not improved, you must change a cell. Please contact us.

Mercury lamp has its ignition failure.

Turning on the lamp becomes to be not in the steady state. The mercury lamp has a tendency which it becomes unsteady regarding the used times. Replace the mercury lamp. Refer to 10.3 (1) “Replacement of mercury lamp”. (Still more, if the lamp is not in steady state, after when turn off the power once, there is the case that this phenomenon may sometimes resolve.)

Indication value will not come to steady state.

When measuring ozone water, the bubble is mixed.

This instrument has a function which will avoid the air bubbles, but they have too much quantities, it may have the chance which it becomes to be pulse noise and this will make the indication to unsteady state. When the indication is not in steady state, cope it in accordance with the procedure.

① Regulate the flow-rate Confirm flow-rate on the specification after it should be adjusted, so that inside of the monitor may not become minus pressure. It becomes easily to generate bubble in such case.

Attach a needle valve and flow-meter referring the Fig.-6 “Example of the piping connection”. When perform sampling by sucking pump, attach outside a needle valve at outlet side of the monitor, and when use its water pressure, it should be install at inlet side of the monitor. Then, adjust flow-rate by a needle valve in accordance with indication of the flow-meter.

② The cell of this instrument is designing for avoiding the air bubbles, but this function has its limit. If the flow-rate is not regulated in the above, attach the device for reducing the air bubbles.

E.J. OZONE PRODUCTS 26

Symptom Cause Confirmation & Correcting action The flow-rate is not enough (small).

Specified flow-rate of EL-700A is different by its piping. This could measure concentration even if its flow-rate is lower than one of specified value, however it may have indicate lower value than the actual one, and also its responsibility speed becomes late.

The indication value will display in low than the one of the actual value.

Zero adjustment is shifted.

Perform zero adjustment in the state by flowing zero water without ozone. If perform it in condition by flowing ozone water, the concentration value will not indicate its zero point, and the reference becomes in mistake because that ozone may shift it. Deterioration of sensitivity of sensor, spotted cell and ambient temperature may shift zero point, adjust zero point once a day.
