The Eos Process Piping Knowledgebase was developed for use with Sage Estimating. The knowledgebase was developed for use with a broad spectrum of users in mind. It can be used from conceptual stages to detailed estimating stages, or even for use by a piping fabricator or installation contractor. It is also intended to be useful for various types of projects which require piping, from small outdoor pipe installations, to use in building construction, to power plants, pipelines, and various types of industrial or processing/treatment plants. The knowledgebase includes piping items for the common piping types, sizes (up to 60 inch diameter for some types), schedules, and pressure ratings. The knowledgebase follows the Eos Group modular knowledgebase design specifications and can be expanded or merged with other Eos Group modular knowledgebases or RS Means knowledgebases without conflicts or renumbering. Eos Group has developed methods to quickly add additional piping materials and pipe specifications in the same structured manner to expand the piping knowledgebase content. These may be added in entire sections, such as additional groups of pipe for different alloys or plastics, or specifications. Also additional parts and pieces can be added, such as additional fittings, flanges, valves, or hanger parts. Items have multiple production rates assigned to them for differing installation condi-tions. Items have multiple material price tables assigned to them for differing purchase conditions. Assemblies are included to support rapid take off of either detailed or conceptual pip-ing. Assemblies are designed to take off all items for a run of one size, schedule, and pressure in each pass. Assemblies are differentiated for shop fabricated vs. field run piping and for differing joint methods; butt welded, socket welded, screwed, flanged (bolted), press fit, grooved end couplings. Each piping assembly includes pipe, fittings, shop welds and field welds, valves, hangers and supports, insulation, coating, and testing.
The user may enter specific quantities or select built-in calculation of quantities based on underlying calculations and tables (which are adjustable by editing the knowledge-base). The selections for calculated quantities are based on entry of pipe complexity as a fitting density as number or as a selection.

A model is included to support conceptual piping estimating. The model supports the rapid development of piping estimates with control of assumptions and the ability to quickly make changes.
