ASF - Epidemiological situation- 2018 TOTAL -
Domestic pigs: 1164 outbreaks with 297.859 affected pigs, from which
283.935 in 19 infected commercial farms, 250 in 1 slaughterhouse,
13.674 from 1144 infected backyards
Wild boars: 601 positive cases from which,
507 found dead and
94 hunted wild boars
13 Closed outbreaks in 7 localities.

BIOSECURITY- draft proposal for farm categories -
The sanitary veterinary norm regarding the biosecurity conditions in swine holdings,approved by the NSVFSA and Ministery of Agriculture and Rural Development Orderno. 20/195/2018 is revised, such as:
LEVEL I – minimum biosecurity measures
- Backyard holdings: max 5 fattening pigs, for own consumption
LEVEL II
- Type ”A” commercial farms 6-128 pigs for (1) fattening or (2) reproduction (plus shower)
LEVEL III
- Commercial holdings
Bazna and Mangalița – traditional outdoor breeds – double fenced enclosures (one of them electric) + biosecurity
Changes in Backyard biosecurity
Non-commercial holdings with max. 5 fattening pigs, for own consumption. Noreproduction.
Mandatory: personal hygiene of farmers, changing clothes, footwear.
Forbidden the use of fresh grass or cereals. Only after 30 days.
After adoption, awareness campaigns for backyard owners through local councils,private vets, county representatives of the Minister of Agriculture and RuralDevelopment, and other institutions.
Transition period: 6 months. Holdings with more then 5 pigs will slaughter orcomply with the new biosecurity rules.
Other amendments of legislation:
prohibiting the movement of pigs from non-commercial farms to other non-commercial farms or slaughterhouses.
prohibiting the raising of pigs in non-registered extravilan farms.
Hunting quota – amendments
Due to the evolution of ASF in wild boars, the hunting strategy for hunting season 2018-2019 was modified, such as:
Hunting quota was supplemented by an intervention quota;
The hunting season for female wild boar and piglets was prolonged until 14.05.2019.
