PRESIDENT’S REPORT 2012 – 2013 SEASON

2012/13 was a fantastic season for the club. We welcomed Le Tan as our gold sponsor, fielded 8 teams across the junior age groups - an increase of 3 teams on 2011/12, had a successful In2Cricket program with over 60 kids involved, worked much closer with our senior club the Epping Bulls, and had some success on the field with U14’s East team winning their division. Congratulations to all Players, Coaches, Managers, Scorers and Umpires who have helped to make this season a great success.

At the start of the season all players were presented with their playing shirts, which for the first time ever were supplied by the club. This was made possible by the support of Le Tan who became the club’s Gold Sponsor in the 2012-13 season. I received lots of comments from parents about how good the players all looked wearing their club shirts. Le Tan also provided some product for the teams and players and I can’t think of a more appropriate sponsor to have on board throughout the hot summer months. Thanks to Andrew Gibbons for working with Bill McCartney from Le Tan to organise this sponsorship and I’m pleased to announce a continuation of Le Tan’s support throughout next season. EDCC–J entered eight teams in the Northern Districts competitions. These comprised one U9 team, three U11 teams, one U12 team, one U13 team and two U14 teams. This was an increase of 3 teams on season 2011-12. A pleasing result as we aim to build the playing numbers at the club and field teams across all age groups. As in previous seasons we have also had a strong In2Cricket program for the 5-8 year olds running at Epping Oval which I’m sure will result in at least one U9’s team taking the field in season 2013-14. Congratulations to our U14 East team who won their division. Well done to the team, coaches/managers and of course the parents. We have a unique advantage over other junior cricket clubs in the area as one of the only junior clubs with an associated senior Shires club – the Epping Bulls. Throughout the 2012-13 season we were very appreciative of the involvement of the Epping Bulls. Most junior teams had an Epping Bulls player allocated as coach or assistant coach to help train and inspire the teams, the In2Cricket program was run by the Epping Bulls and grading/training days were also held. The involvement of the Bulls has many benefits for the club; providing additional cricket knowledge to many of the teams and a pathway into senior cricket for our players. It is great to see a few of our older junior players already playing for senior teams and it is our role as the junior club to ensure we continue to provide playing talent for the Bulls into the future. In particular I’d like to thank Ken Willcox for his work throughout the season. Ken managed our U14’s grading days, junior training sessions – no small task with 100 junior players at the club, and was also involved with the In2Cricket sessions.

Thank you to all those on the Committee - along with our Managers, Coaches, Scorers, and Umpires who have all made a very worthwhile contribution again this season. They are the ones who make the games happen every week and we all owe them a debt of gratitude. Cassandra Kirk deserves a special mention for her tireless work throughout the year. I can confidently say that without her passionate involvement, our club would be at a standstill. She has managed to work on club recruitment, NDCA committee meetings, registration day management, team allocations, 20/20 nominations and co-ordination, photo & training days, shirts and caps ordering/printing, presentation day management and I’m sure a number of other tasks not listed – all at the same time as renovations at home and working! Thanks Cassandra – your work is genuinely appreciated.

You will notice a few unfilled positions within the committee, so please get involved to help the club continue its success. A few more people involved with the running of the club will mean there is less work for any one individual throughout the year. Also, thank you to my wife Kristin who, thanks to me sticking up my hand, has inherited a role within the club. Kristin has been involved with recruitment, registrations, team allocations and many other tasks throughout the year. Kristin also compiled this annual report – no small task itself. I hope you all enjoyed the 2012-13 cricket season at Epping District Cricket Club – Juniors and I look forward to seeing you all again next year. 2012/2013 MAJOR AWARDS Intermediate Club Cricketer of the Year (U13-U14)

Aidan Federow

Junior Club Cricketer of the Year (U11-U12)

Billy McCarthy

Spirit of Cricket Award

Sam Gibbons

Encouragement Award Deniz Wiggins

Wicket Keeper of the Year (Most Dismissals)

Liam Doherty

Most Catches (Non Wicket Keeper)

Joshua Stern

Intermediate Club Cricketer of the Year (U13-U14)

Aidan Federow Aiden has had an outstanding season in his first year at Epping District. Opening the batting the team made him feel right at home and he was extremely consistent with the willow. The statistics speak for themselves. Aiden had 15 games overall (including T20 matches) and had a total of 16 innings. In 10 of these innings he remained unbeaten and finished not out. With a whopping total of 650 runs attained with seven 50’s and one triple figure 100, he finished with an incredible average of 108.3. His technique is explosive and really intimidated all bowling attacks that he encountered this year. Every game he would seem nervous opening the bat but as he felt bat on ball, and built a strong opening partnership with his fellow opening bat Brayden Dilley, it was obvious that he was doing what he loves.

With the ball, Aiden bowled a total of 58.1 overs as an extremely productive leg spinner who can add variance to every delivery. He finished with 10 maidens, 21 wickets at an incredible bowling average of 7.5.

Being the well rounded cricketer that he is, and his consistency that he strived for week in week out, Aiden Federow is the deserved winner of the EDCCJ Intermediate Cricketer of the Year.

Junior Club Cricketer of the Year (U11-U12)

Billy McCarthy Billy has been with Epping District since Milo with a number of boys who have formed the nucleus of the u11 whites. After a slow start to the year with the bat, Billy hit his straps after round 4 scoring 220 runs and getting out once in eight innings, he finished on top of the district run scoring with an average of 56. With the ball this year Billy took 11 wickets at a very impressive economy rate of 1.6 per over. Billy took 6 catches and was involved in 5 run outs. Billy, along with 8 other players from Epping District Cricket Club, made the Northern District representative side, which certainly gives the club a bright future.

Spirit of Cricket Award

Sam Gibbons This Award recognises a player whose performance has demonstrated a commitment to the team and the game. This season the award has been given to Sam Gibbons, captain of the Under 14 West team.

In terms of his individual performance Sam had a terrific season, not only scoring the most runs for his team, but also being equal leading wicket taker. However just as impressive was Sam’s approach to the game, as evidenced by these examples.

While always quick to celebrate the fall off each wicket with his team mates, Sam’s natural second response was to also make a point of catching up with the opposition batman to offer a quick conciliatory word acknowledging their efforts. A small gesture, but made in the right spirit.

Sam also organised his team in a fair and equitable way, ensuring opportunities and responsibilities were shared across the season. This gave his team mates the chance maximise their participation and develop their skills. It also meant the team's successes were the results of a shared effort.

Sam is a worthy recipient of the Spirit of Cricket Award.

Encouragement Award

Deniz Wiggins Deniz has been with Epping District since Milo cricket and has continued to improve year after year. He is very determined to continually improve his whole game and puts 100% effort into training and on game day. His spin bowling this year steered the team to some good wins with Deniz taking 9 wickets at an average of 14. This year Deniz spent a lot of time on his batting and it showed out in the middle with some very handy partnerships and a top score of 17no. We look forward to Deniz continuing his improvement in the game and can see big things ahead for him.

Wicketkeeper of the year

Liam Doherty Liam Doherty was the find of the season. He never played cricket until he came to represent the Epping Under 11 Reds. However the young lad was extremely talented and took up the position behind the wickets. His talent behind the wickets soon proved as he went on to take 6 catches in 10 games. This included two brilliant ones which were taken down the leg side. He also made two excellent stumpings and two run outs. Liam appears to be a gifted wicket keeper and is certain to make it to the next level soon.

Most catches (non wicketkeeper)

Joshua Stern Josh took 11 catches for the season which was an outstanding effort. He topped the number of catches for the whole district. He is dynamic and agile in the field and always looking for the ball. Congratulations Josh!

Michael Clarke Twenty20 Competition Report

This year Epping District Cricket Club Juniors took part in the Michael Clarke Twenty20 competition with the following teams:

Under 14’s team - Winners of the WeetBix 20/20 NDJCA series under 14’s age group Elliot Carwardine Rick Nehru Brayden Dilley Jack Parkinson Will Evans Connor Salmon Aidan Fedorow Aman Sandhu Henry Kirk Thomas Steele Tarun Mahajan Josh Stern Daniel Maittlen Tushar Verma The U/14 20/20 team played well winning all four games. Three of the games were won easily with the 4th game against North Ryde RSL being a close fought match, winning in the last over. Unfortunately the boys did not get to progress any further in the competition due to an administration bungle by NDJCA which was extremely disappointing.

Under 12’s Red - Winners of the WeetBix 20/20 NDJCA series under 12’s age group. Caleb Boorer Jarrod Hocking Charlie Cale Mitchell Hodgetts Ben Cheetham Henry Kirk Cameron Every Adam Langer Naba Haider Luca Stuhl Matthew Henning Jethro Thornton A team made up of under 13 and under 12 players. Combined they presented a very strong team, winning all three of their games. The last round, which was to become the area final, was a very close game against the equally strong Concord Briars. Score 9/96 off 20 overs to 6/91 off 20 overs. Again did not progress to the finals rounds, which was very disappointing.

Under 12’s Green Ethan Colmer Billy McCarthy Kabil Dhillon Dominic Micallef Alex Doherty Ryan Pascoe Liam Doherty Senara Perrera Jackson Hodgetts Luke Tedesco Alex Hudson Deniz Wiggins Oscar Kirk An all under 11’s team made up from players from our three under 11 club teams. This team was always going to have a big challenge playing in the under 12’s category. One they meet on their first game against YMCA defeating them 5/77 in 19.2 overs, YMCA 4/76 in 20 overs. Unfortunately the next two games proved more of a challenge; all players can be commended on their play under tough circumstances. Well done to all.

Under 9 Team Ryan Mount I knew you were a capable player Ryan when you started the season. The first few matches of the season, you started with a lot of wides and no balls when you bowled. But, you practiced sincerely during our Wednesday sessions and maintained focus - I was truly pleased when you got your first wicket in the last match of the season. I was the happiest man when I saw you bowl out one of the stronger batsmen. You do have great potential and can be a good bowler Ryan, keep practising!

Dilan Suriyarachchi You will be remembered by the entire team for your enthusiasm, blistering pace bowling, accuracy and world class fielding. Your smile and positive team spirit will not go un-noticed D2! Proof to this is during the last match of season; you got injured whilst trying to stop a ball that was hit really hard in second slip position. You got injured on your shin but managed to stop the ball and EVEN got the batsman run out!! Now, that is the sign of a world class cricketer. Remember D2, Peter (Jack's dad) had to spray local anaesthesia on your wound as you were in a great deal of pain. Keep you the great work Champion!

Ethan MacDonald Mate, you are probably the best spin bowler I've ever come across. I really don't know how you do this Ethan, but you bowl with your head down and manage to not just spin the ball, but it often has perfect line and length. You even proved by bowling out not 1, not 2 but 4 batsmen during our last match of season!! Ethan, keep up the good work but start looking at the batsman when you bowl please :-)

Jack Gilbertson You are a real pleasure to work with. Your concentration during the game and consideration for your team mates have made you a real favourite. I felt like making you the captain during every match we played, but that would have been unfair for the other boys. Your contributions to the team have been simply PRECIOUS: you can bat, bowl and keep like a pro!

William Wright Superb overall effort through the season mate and rightly called SWISS ARMY KNIFE!! I am not surprised you were selected to join the reps squad. We would eagerly wait to see you and Jack bat and your confidence with the bat simply grew as the season progressed. Similar to Jack, you were a true asset to the team because of your batting, bowling and top class wicket keeping skills. Way to go William!

Keshav Murthy At age 7, your pace bowling was impressive. The pace, line and length improved steadily as the season progressed. I am pleased with the amazing natural batting ability you displayed during practice and match sessions. You and Dilan were a great pair while batting and your ability to run between wickets is something the team will surely miss.

Denis Bannyon You started off without giving us a clue about your hidden bowling talent. It was only towards the end of the season, we started to notice your natural bowling ability. Your cheerful smile and team spirit will be missed.

Page | 13

Mackenzie Munro If I had to mention one player who showed passion, discipline and willingness to learn, that is without a doubt you! The whole team relied upon you, Jack and William to get them out of trouble. You too have a great cricket future buddy, keep up the great work Mackenzie.

Dylan Kerrigan You started off as a quiet but quick learner, but caught the entire team by surprise with your cool and accurate bowling talent. Now all you need to do is work on your batting and fielding skills. Keep smiling Dylan.

Kit Young Another promising player and a great contributor to the team. Kit, your energy is something that the team really benefitted from. A lot of your mates learnt from your sharp fielding abilities. You did take some very difficult catches in the matches and your bowling improved greatly as the season progressed.

Zack Van Eyl You are the most pleasant guy to work with. Your fielding and batting have improved a lot. Keep up the good work and look forward to working with you next season.

Uday Murthy (Coach)

Under 11 (Blue) Team This season was one of learning and development for Epping District Blue, with all players showing significant improvement. Being a newly formed team with only 3-4 experienced cricketers, posed numerous challenges, however, by season’s end we showed we could match it with any other team on our day. We were unlucky not to win our games against Carlingford Waratahs, losing one on a marginally slower run rate after a rain stoppage and one on 2 dubious LBW decisions – that’s cricket.

Michael Hudson (Coach)

Under 11 (Blue) – Player Reports

Will Chan A key player, Will opened the batting 7 times and recorded the competition’s highest opening partnership with Kartik. Will was our 3rd highest run scorer, with a highest score of 30 not out and claimed 5 wickets with his accurate, medium pace bowling.

Sam Collins Posted our team’s best bowling figures of 3-0, outstanding! When Sam bowled line and length his medium pace leg cutters were almost unplayable and he was our equal leading wicket taker during the season with 10 scalps. Increasing confidence in his batting saw Sam record a highest score of 31 not out. One of our best fieldsmen.

Harry Edwards A great debut year for “Dash”, with a highest score of 19 and taking 3 wickets. Harry was one of our 2 wicket keepers and displayed remarkable improvement as the season progressed. His catch off Alex’s off-spin in the last game would have done Matthew Wade proud.

Ryan Fitzpatrick Ryan always wants to be part of the action and his enthusiasm in the field was important for the team this season. His contribution of 63 runs with 4 not outs and 3 wickets was an excellent result for someone playing his first year of cricket – I expect next year to be even better Ryan.

Alex Hudson The batting engine room of the team, Alex finished 2nd in runs scored (224) and topped the averages (74.7) and high score (56 not out) for the competition. His sound wicket keeping and 5 wickets were also important contributions.

Kartik Khetarpaul Arguably the best all-rounder in the competition, Kartik’s stats make impressive reading. He scored 162 runs at 32.4 and captured 10 wickets at an average of 10.3 and an economy rate of only 2.70. On top of that he took 7 catches + 1 run out. What a great year!

Callum Tainsh I have never seen anyone as keen to bat last as Callum, which is surprising, as he has good technique. Callum proved to be a great first change bowler, taking 7 wickets (3rd most) at an average of 17.1. He took bags of 2 wickets 3 times, with a best of 2/12 and an economy rate of 4.3.

Page | 15

Isaac Tang A quiet achiever, Isaac’s determination was an inspiration for the team. His best bowling of 2/5 was against the top team Carlingford Waratahs, with a season haul of 5 wickets at an average of 26.2. Isaac was our only player not to bowl a wide or no-ball in our last match, highlighting his accuracy with the ball. When batting, he placed a high value on his wicket.

Matt Tankard From my point of view, one of the year’s success stories. At the start of the year Matt could not bowl, however, by season’s end he had taken 2 wickets and was regularly landing the ball “on the spot”. The confidence gained from his bowling also saw an improvement in Matt’s batting and fielding and I look forward to seeing further development next season. Well done Matt!

Archith Yasamana Statistics don’t accurately reflect the extent of Archith’s development. The technical improvement in his batting was very satisfying and I am sure he will see the benefit next season. At the start of the season Archith threw rather than bowled the ball. Hard practice and a willingness to learn has earned him 4 wickets with a best of 2/18. His economy rate has gone from 8-10 runs per over in the first 5 matches to 4-4.5 runs in the last 2 – halving his economy rate. Keep it up Archith!

Under 11 (White) Team It was a great year for the boys with some great team and individual performances and everyone contributing. The majority of the team have been together for a few years now and this year we welcomed Sam and Josh to the team. Our season started very strong with a few good wins as the team settled into a rhythm and improved week after week. After the break, a few washout games ended our chances of making the finals however the boys kept up the same intensity and did themselves and the club proud. It was so pleasing to see the improvement in every player as the year progressed, it was an absolute pleasure to coach this group of boys and I look forward to them all returning next year for greater achievements. I would also like to make a special thank you to all the parents who came to all our games and gave the boys great support, to Robyn who did a great job managing the team, Scott for scoring and teaching Oya how to score and a huge thank you to Matt (from the Epping Bulls) who gave up his time to help our boys.

Derek McCarthy (Coach)

Under 11 (White) – Player Reports Sam Carpenter It was Sam’s first year at cricket and he put in a huge effort both on the pitch and at training and this showed with his continued improvement throughout the year and some good scores in the second half of the year including a rapid fire 20 in one game.

Ethan Colmer Ethan’s batting this year really came along, he held the team together for the first part of the year as he put his hand up to open and came up with lots of runs, had a good season with the ball capturing 3/3 in one game.

Kabil Dhillon Another very consistent year for Kabil with both bat and ball and this was reflected in him making the NDJCA representative team. Kabil led our attack with some very economical bowling spells.

Matthew Graetz Another big improver this year, Matthew is a very solid fielder with a great arm. Was involved in some good match winning partnerships and on his day is a very quick and accurate bowler.

Lachlan Maher Lachlan shows commitment in everything he does and was rewarded this year with some great bowling, a very memorable day was had when he hit the winning runs.

Josh Mayo Another debutant to our team and had a fantastic first year, Josh was one of our wicket keepers and did a great job behind the stumps taking a few catches and run outs, bowled very economical taking a best of 2/8.

Page | 18

Billy McCarthy Billy had a great year leading our run scoring and wicket taking and making the NDJCA rep team. As the year progressed his batting improved: getting out once in his last 8 innings, including a 39no. Billy’s fielding improved this year taking 4 catches and 5 run outs.

Ryan Pascoe Our very own “Mr Cricket”, Ryan improved immensely this year and showed lots of promise with the ball taking 4 wickets and in the field taking 4 catches and two stumpings.

Luke Tedesco If there was something happening in the game Luke was there, another of our wicket keepers and showed great promise with the gloves taking 3 catches. Luke batted well this year with a top score of 20.

Oliver Ticehurst Another big improver this year, especially with his bowling: taking 4 wickets and being very economical. A good fielder, taking 4 catches and stopping lots of runs.

Deniz Wiggins Deniz really shone this year with the ball taking 8 wickets and made it very hard for teams to score with his spinners with best figures of 2/6. Deniz showed some great signs with the bat with a top score of 17no.

Under 11 (Red) Team The Under 11 Reds had a great season. All the boys and girls were enthusiastic and seemed to genuinely have lots of fun while individually developing their skills. The team played with great spirit and did extremely well to end up 3rd in the competition. I like to thank all the parents for their support during the season, helping out with managing the team, scoring and umpiring. A special thanks to Thomas Dangerfield of the Epping Bulls for helping out at training each week. It gives me great pleasure to see how each individual player has developed so well during the season. This was a great team to work with and I enjoyed every moment of it.

Russell Fernandopulle (Coach)

Under 11 (Red) – Player Reports Damien Baer This was Damien’s first season of cricket and it was great to see the improvement in his game. He has the ability to get much better and I hope to see him develop further in the game.

Liam Cleary Liam is a fine cricketer. He always stuck to the task at hand and had some great displays with the bat and ball. Liam will simply get better as he plays more and I look forward to seeing many good things from him in the future.

Minoli De Silva Minoli only joined us in the second half of the season. She was another beginner to the game and it was great to see her improve as we progressed to the end of the season.

Alex Doherty In his first year of cricket Alex showed some strong skills, solid defence with the bat and a huge improvement in his accurate bowling. He was among the wicket takers this year.

Liam Doherty Considering Liam had never played cricket before his performance in the game was excellent. He made some great contributions with the bat and ball. He scored 96 runs and took 7 wickets. He took up the challenge to be the wicket-keeper for the team and proved to be the best with 6 behind the wicket catches, 2 stumpings and 2 runouts.

Cameron Fernandopulle Cameron has improved his bowling significantly this season. With his unorthodox bowling action he surprised many batsmen. Cameron has been a very patient and understanding team member.

Jackson Hodgetts Jackson is a very talented all-rounder. His ability to consistently bowl a good line and length proved to be very crucial. He priced his wicket greatly and never got out easily. Jackson has always had a safe pair of hands and has been excellent in the field.

Page | 21

Oscar Kirk Oscar was very enthusiastic and a big contributor to the success of the team this year. He was our opening bat, providing stability to our batting line up and could be depended upon to see us through the opening bowlers. He has excellent batting technique. He scored 142 runs with a top score of 30* and ended up taking seven wickets this season. His energy in the field was infectious.

Roy Mazzei Roy worked hard throughout the season to improve his game and simply got better the more he played. I look forward to seeing Roy play a lot more cricket in the future.

Dominic Micallef Dom is a fine cricketer and a very passionate sportsman. Dom always found a way to get into the game whether it was with batting, bowling or fielding. He scored 111 runs with a top score of 29*. He took a total of 7 wickets and was the best fielder in the team.

Senara Perera Senara is one of our key players. A natural all-rounder and always gives her best. She was a great encourager and motivator for the team. Unfortunately we missed her in the 1st half of the season due extended overseas holiday.

Lachlan Waller Lachlan has improved his bowling and batting significantly this season. Unfortunately he missed out on a few games due to injury. Another talented player capable of a big score as his confidence grows with the bat

Under 12 Team A really good year of cricket for the boys with a noticeable increase in depth across the team. This came from last years’ players showing strong improvement as well as 5 new players joining our team. There were 4 teams in our division and we played a mixture of 2 day, 1 day and 20/20 format throughout the year. Partnerships were our focus and we created an award for the best partnership to encourage everyone to work together and bat as a team. Nick and Caleb were immediately successful combining for a match winning 7th wicket partnership of 61 when we were in trouble against West Ryde in Round 2. However, Cam and Mitch weren’t to be outdone when in the very next match they got our innings off to a flyer with an opening stand of 81. Moving to the 1 day and 20/20 format I thought 81 might be a tough stand to beat, so I offered up a separate partnership target for these games. The next week Cam and Matt scored 72 together against the undefeated competition leaders North Ryde to really give us a chance at a win. Throughout the year there were 15 partnerships of 25 or more across the team involving 10 different players, so a great effort in building innings across the team. Next year, we’ll switch to bowling and reducing extras. Matt Boorer appeared to solve this problem at training with 5 push ups ‘awarded’ for each wide/no ball – it was amazing how focused the team was at that session. Thanks to Mike Langer who did another great job managing the team and providing some of our extra players to the U11’s and U13’s where possible, Matt Boorer for assisting with coaching, umpiring & scoring throughout the year and Dave Hocking…our regular scorer and for keeping the stats updated online. Mark Henning (Coach)

Under 12 – Player Reports Dylan Bannyon Dylan’s first year of cricket and showed some potential with both bat and ball. Quick reflexes and made some great run saves at point/gully. Caleb Boorer Caleb performed well with both bat and ball. The highlight being a match winning 61 run 7th wicket partnership with Nick Russell when we were in trouble against West Ryde in the 2nd round.

Page | 24

Ben Cheetham Ben was one of our key wicket-takers throughout the year. Batting highlight was an unbeaten 37 against West Ryde which consolidated our victory in round 8. Cameron Every (C) Cam had an outstanding year with the bat scoring 241 @ 40.17 the second highest number of runs in the age group across all clubs. Solid-as-a-rock opening the innings and also contributed with the ball. Matthew Henning (VC) Our second highest run scorer this year who kept the scoreboard moving whenever he was at the crease. Jarrod Hocking Our main wicket keeper throughout the year and topped the catches count for the team. Mitchell Hodgetts Mitch’s first year with the team and he contributed well with both bat and ball. Opened the batting at times and with Cam held the record for the highest partnership of the year (81 for the 1st wicket). Ravindu Kahawita This was Ravindu’s first year of cricket with Epping District. He worked hard on all aspects of his game throughout the year and showed great commitment to the team both at training and on the field. Aidan Kirkpatrick-Jones Another year of improvement for Aidan, picking up 3 wickets and really lifting his talk in the field. Adam Langer A great year from Adam – topped our bowling stats with 10 wickets @ 6.9. This was equal 5th across all teams in the division. Surya Malhotra Surya’s batting developed rapidly this year and he quickly became a solid opener for us featuring across many of our key partnerships. Nick Russell The 2nd of our ‘go to’ wicket keepers. Nick partnered with Caleb in the match winning 7th wicket partnership against West Ryde in round 2. Luca Stuhl Luca’s first year of cricket with Epping District. Showed some good potential with the ball and continually improved throughout the year. Jethro Thornton A regular contributor with the bat, featured in 4 of our 15 partnerships over 25 throughout the year. Our opening bowler who captured 7 wickets throughout the year.

Under 13 (East) Team This year we had a few new players join our team; unfortunately we lost a few players from last season due to other commitments. It was great having a few new players in the team, some of whom have not played cricket before, it was a great learning experience for them; furthermore the new players gelled really well with our returning players. I had lots of fun coaching due to my teams’ success, throughout the whole season. All the boys trained really hard in every training session and applied their training in match situations. All advice that was given to each individual was taken aboard. I was extremely proud of the boys and how they carried out on the field, always encouraging each other and always playing with the right spirit, and with good sportsmanship as has been the tradition at Epping for a long time. Our season was quite successful - we ended up finishing up third on the ladder. One of the major highlights in the season was when we almost beat St Pats. Our team performed really well, only to fall a few runs short of victory. Some key individual performances during that game were: Elliot’s brilliant bowling performance, where he bowled a 3 wicket maiden, furthermore Charlie and Naba were involved in a substantial partnership after we were 3 wickets down for not many runs. Lastly I would like to thank my dad Nass, Peter Steele and Cassandra for helping manage the team. I would also like to thank parents for bringing the children to training sessions and matches.

Naji (Coach)

Under 13 (East) – Player Reports Charlie Cale Charlie has not been able to play the whole season with us because he has had private school commitments. Charlie has had yet another productive season scoring 2 half centuries. He has been consistent with the bat and has always been very good in the field. Charlie opened the bowling for us and always bowled good lines and lengths, he was a little unlucky not to pick up a few more wickets this season.

Elliot Carwardine Elliot has had a good season, his bowling has improved significantly and he has been the spearhead for our bowling attack for quite some time. He has also made some handy runs with the bat - with a good temperament. Elliot has also been very athletic on the field and quick between the wickets

Jacob Chapman Jacob has improved this season and has opened the batting for us for most of the season. He has been unlucky with the bat making starts, I’m sure with plenty of hard work he will be able to post a big score. Jacob has a solid batting technique. Jacob also bowls well and is a good fielder and is quick between the wickets.

Page | 27

Daniel De Lima Daniel is by far our most improved player this season, this is his first season and he has improved significantly from when we first started. His batting technique has improved and he is more confident. He bowls handy off spinners. Daniel finished off the season by getting 3 wickets against St Pats who are the top team, great effort Daniel!

Luis De Lima This is Luis’ first season with the Epping Juniors. He has improved a lot, especially his fielding. Luis has always trained hard and tried his best, with continued application he can improve even more. For his first season of cricket he has batted well.

Lakshan Fernando Lakshan’s batting has improved significantly. Lakshan struggled last year to bat for long periods of time. But this year his technique has improved a lot and his defence in particular has gotten much better. Lakshan has also improved his fielding and bowling. Keep it up Lakshan!

Naba Haider Naba has captained the team and done a good job. He has had a productive season scoring 2 half centuries and taking over 20 wickets in the season. Naba has been really consistent with his bowling. He has bowled brilliant leg break/off breaks. He has also bowled really consistent lines and lengths making it difficult for every batsman to face. Naba has been quite good in the field having a strong arm and a good pair of hands.

Will Kent Will has opened the bowling for us whenever he has played. He has bowled really well with good pace and accuracy. Will has not been able to play many games for us, as he plays for school on weekends.

Henry Kirk Unfortunately Henry has had not been able to play many games for us as he has been busy with private school commitments. But when he has played he has batted well. Henry has a very solid batting technique. Henry is also a handy bowler. Henry is also a very good fielder with a good pair of hands.

Rohit Raykar Rohit had trouble at the start of the season with bowling consistently outside offstump, but after training hard and taking aboard my advice he has bowled much better lines and lengths - Glen McGrath like. Rohit has also improved his batting, scoring handy lower order runs. Rohit is also a good fielder.

Connor Salmon Connor has had good season, he has bowled really well and made good contributions with the bat. Against North Ryde Connor bowled a match winning spell where he bamboozled North Ryde’s batting attack by getting a 5 wicket hall by bowling. Connor has always been very reliable in the field and has a good pair of hands.

Thomas Schaafsma This is Thomas’ first season with the club, he has learnt a lot in his short time with the team. He has trained hard and always listened to all the advice that has been given to him. He has improved his batting and bowling. Our whole team roared in joy when Thomas scored his first run. Keep working hard Thomas!

Page | 28

Thomas Steele Thomas has had a tough time with the bat at the start of the season but with lots of training and hard work he started batting a lot better. He batted really well against St Pats and gave us a chance to win. Thomas has been solid behind the stumps, improving after every game. Thomas has also been good in the field.

Hugh White This was Hugh’s first season with us and he gelled with the team really well. His bowling and batting improved as the season progressed. His ground fielding has improved a lot. He as trained really hard in every training session. Highlight of the season for Hugh was when he got his first wicket against St Pats. Good work Hugh!

Under 14 (West) Team The core of the team was joined by several boys playing for the first time and a few who had either returned to the game after a season or two away or had come from another Club. It didn’t take long however to develop a great team spirit, not only in their support for each other but also the way they played the game each week. The sharing of responsibilities and opportunities allowed all of the boys to build on their skills. While the results didn’t always fall their way, the successes they did enjoy were the results of a group effort. The foundations are certainly in place to build on for next year. Thanks to everyone for a great season.

Brad Roeleven (Manager)

Under 14 (West) – Player Reports Nathan Carr A composed and patient batsman with good technique, comfortable at the top of the order. Consistent line and length with his bowling saw him share the honours as our leading wicket taker.

Kayne Domanko A terrific first up effort. He enjoyed every opportunity to hone his skill and good progress was evident by seasons end. His positive outlook and effort in the field in particular were a valuable contribution.

Nathan Drobnak A very impressive first season. An accurate and effective bowler whose calm manner saw him steer the team to a 1 run win against Balmain with a tight final over of the game, in which he also top scored with the bat.

Tom Farquhar (VC) A terrific and reliable effort all season from Tom. His determination in all facets of the game was a real asset for the team. His top score of 65 laid the foundations for a great win against West Ryde Rovers.

Sam Gibbons (C) Led the team by example in both effort and attitude. Sam topped the season’s batting stats including an impressive 74 in a fantastic partnership with Aman to set up a convincing win against Oakhill College. He also shared the honours as leading wicket taker.

Hamish Joslin Without doubt one of the best keepers in the comp, his terrific effort was the result of hard work over the season. Backed up his great effort behind the stumps with some handy batting, and also managed to send down a few overs and snare a couple of wickets along the way.

Tejas Rajagopalan An entertaining, hard hitting batsman whose time at the crease always held promise. Produced a top score of 40 against best the team in the comp, and his all-rounder abilities were confirmed with some handy efforts with the ball.

Page | 31

Jake Roeleven A solid season from Jake, notably his dependable and economic bowling which saw him regularly take on the responsibilities of opening the attack. His determined nature ensured runs were always hard to come by.

Aman Singh Hard work across the season, combined with a competitive spirit, saw him achieve a top score of 58 to help the team to a great win over Oakhill. His crafty spin bowling was both economic and effective, bagging the season’s best figures of 4/10.

Kaden Thornton Quietly determined, Kaden went confidently about the season with minimal fuss and maximum effort. This was particularly evident with his reliable and consistent bowling, always making opposition batsman earn every run.

Harrison Turner Led by example in the field with a 100% effort, chasing down or throwing himself at everything that came his way. Showed similar enthusiasm with some strong bowling and batting, including a valuable innings which helped set the foundations for the win against Balmain.

Alister Wardle A positive attitude and boundless energy saw Alister make the most, of every challenge thrown his way. The team benefited from his confident approach and all-round contributions with the bat and ball.

Under 14 (East) Team What an absolutely amazing season for the boys, from outstanding individual performances throughout the season but overall a great team performance. Who can complain about a premiership? This side bonded together and worked as one amazing unit to bring home the silverware. The boys definitely have the right to say that they deserved it. Our season consisted of highs and lows but persistence, patience, determination and enthusiasm had the majority coming back to the training park on Mondayʼs and arriving at games pre-8am. With bat and ball this group of talented young men put performances together week in and week out to take the points!

Mitch Healey (Coach)

Under 14 (East) – Player Reports Brayden Dilley Brayden (Prince Dilley) bowled the occasional... whatever he felt like on the day really...and was able to try a few things that seemed to work in most situations. He finished with 12 wickets for the season at an average of 12.11. He has the technique and the stroke play with the piece of wood. When he grows into his body he will eventually gain the levers to go big. Has a ridiculous amount of potential to become a very solid batsman at any standard he plays. His technique, mentality and patience lead to an impressive 213 runs at 23.67. It has been great to coach a young man who has taught me so much and has all the potential in the world to become a great cricketer! Well done mate!

Will Evans Will was the man behind the stumps stopping everything possible. His presence was always felt by the batsmen and also by his team mates. With the right attitude he can improve greatly as he definitely has the skills. Coming in at number 3 with the bat he backed the work of the two openers and usually continued the onslaught of runs. A great base and solid technique that can, again, be fine-tuned with some work. One of the best cover drives I have seen from a young man. Will finished with 138 runs at an average of 27.6. Good to see your enthusiasm build! Some of the best hand-eye co-ordination I have seen.

Aidan Fedorow Another leggy to be used when the skipper require. Aidan was very handy through middle sessions of the day. Able to bowl the darted deliveries to sneak past the batsmen but was able to slow it down with the ball and bamboozle the best. Aidan finished with 20 wickets at an average of 7.6. With the bat, nothing could stop this young man. In fact, I don’t even think he needs a bat, he hits them that well. Aidan topped the competition with the blade and put the runs on the board for our team for the majority of the season. He finished with extraordinary numbers of 498 runs at an average of 98.4. Bradmanesque? Thanks for a great season and keep backing yourself mate! Will go a long way!

Page | 34

Tarun Mahajan Tarun was a quiet achiever in the team and week in, week out he would simply do his part without any fuss. Tarun was a strike bowler and with his natural variation he ended the season with a respectable 10 wickets at a very tight average of 10.1. With the bat Tarun didn’t get much opportunity with the amount of depth our team provided but showed hints of technique and potential with his solid stroke play. It he been good to coach a responsible young man and with more opportunity in years to come he will progress into a great cricketer and fine man.

Daniel Maittlen Dan has an uncanny ability to get the ball above the eyes as a spinner and in combination he can turn a ball! With this approach Dan snared 6 wickets at an average of 23 with the ball which doesn’t truly represent his potential with the ball. Dan also bolstered the middle order with the bat and was able to weigh up various situations throughout the year. He was able to occupy the crease and really build partnerships to frustrate the bowling attack. Daniel played a vital part in the team and being the very team oriented person he is, he always stood up to the task at hand. He has an amazing mature attitude to the game and was able to influence the team at training and in the paddock on many occasions. It has been a pleasure to coach such a pleasant young man!

Charith Nagasinghe Charith: the man with the heat, the run up and the skill. Charith really impressed me with the ball when he wasn’t plagued by injury. With his ʻget back on your horseʼ attitude he kept coming back despite interruptions and lead the bowling attack into the final and ended with 10 wickets for the season at 11.6. With the bat, like Tarun, he didn’t really get the opportunity to show his brilliance but with more time and practice under the belt I’m sure big runs are due in the near future. Thanks for a great season mate and it has been a pleasure.

Vikrant Nehru The spearhead with the ball! This bloke could beat the bat on any given day with his pure heat! Rick opened the bowling and on many occasions took out the majority of the top order! In saying so he achieved figures of 21 wickets at an average of 7.57, truly outstanding for an opening bowler! With the bat in hand, Rick took on the best of the bowling attack with zeal and gusto. He blasted 238 runs at an average of 39.67. Vikrant has already progressed into senior cricket and has showed his ability to hold his own! Am sure to experience a lot of cricket alongside you in the future!

Jack Parkinson Jack ʻThe Golden Boyʼ Parkinson. No matter what form Jack was in cricket wise, his hair was absolutely immaculate! In the cricketing world Jack has some incredible potential that just required patience to turn starts into big scores and tight spells into bags of wickets. Jack provided the left arm variation with the ball shaping it back into the right hander and ended with 10 wickets for the season at 13.2. With the bat he had less luck but showed incredible amounts of potential with his technique and is definitely due for big runs. Thanks for a great year bud! Amazing commitment for a young cricketer which will get you a long way! Another young man who I expect to be playing in the same side as mine in the near future.

Page | 35

Joshua Stern Every spell bowled was to plan, tying down the runs in bowling partnerships from the other end. And can this kid put the ball on the spot or what! With the perfect in-swinging shape he could tie down any attack. He finished the season with 11 wickets for 79 runs with an average of 7.18. His batting was rock solid, very situational and always conducted at an impressive calibre. He was able to work the singles and twos early as well as really chase after a wide ball. Josh finished the season with 165 runs a very respectable average of 27.5. It has been a pleasure to coach you mate and will expect big things from you in the future! Such amazing leadership abilities!

Tushar Verma Tushar was one of the greatest improvers in the team this year. With his silky smooth bowling technique he was able to dart the ball through to will and really trouble the batting attack of most teams. Tushar finished with 4 wickets of the season which doesn’t properly resemble his bowling ability. With the bat, Tushar presented a solid base and precise technique which built throughout the season and again his statistics didn’t display his batting technique. Tushar has an unbeatable love for the game which gives him an amazing edge over a lot of players! With more persistence he will become a solid cricketer all round.

The final word… It has been a great experience for me as these boys really did teach me a lot of thing that I haven’t come to realise in my time. What an amazing season to start coaching and could not have asked for a better bunch of young men! Most of which I expect to be playing at high levels of cricket over the next couple of years. I would like to thank the parents for their continued support and flexibility around my own commitments. Without your efforts the boys wouldn’t have had this experience and at the end of the day it is you who gets them on the field. I would also like to thank Kylie and Michael as the managers of the team. Their behind the scenes efforts made my life extremely easy and made sure that all the boys and their parents were in the loop. Thank you for your continued efforts throughout the season and it has not gone unnoticed. A quick thanks to Ken Willcox for his help as Assistant Coach - sharing his experience with the team and really helping the boys progress. A final thanks to the boys for the memories and patience! You boys have taught me alot and I couldn’t wish for anything more.

(Note: the above records exclude some upcoming expenditures for trophies and presentation day expenses estimated to be in the vicinity of $1,000 - $1,200 based on 2011/12 expenditures) The club remains in a sound financial position carrying forward in excess of $17,500 into the 2013/14 financial year. As usual, the club’s income has come from registrations for both Milo In2Cricket and junior grades. Additional income in the 2012/13 season has come from $2,000 sponsorship from Le Tan and a $1,000 grant from Commonwealth Bank. 100% of the sponsorship income received from Le Tan was used to fund playing shirts which were provided for every player in 2012/13. The club also contributed some funds to cover the final cost of the shirts. Due to a large stockpile of balls leftover from the 2011/12 season, no ball were required to be purchased this year – normally one of our largest expenditure items each year. Some balls will be required to be purchased for the 2013/14 season. The club’s registration fees have not increased for at least 8 years.
