Values for this term:
Term 1 Responsibility & Cooperation
Confidence Resilience Creativity PRINCIPAL’S REPORTWe are excited that some Stage 2 students have opted to participate in a ground breaking research study with the Australian Catholic University (ACU). The ACU ‘Transform Us’ program provides opportunities to help students understand the impact of their own activity and sedentary time and the influences on these behaviours. Last week, Stage 2 students were excited to begin their journey which involved recording measurements and being handed their behavioural devices and instructions. For those Stage 2 students who missed out, there will be a second intake early next term for any students that did not return permission slips on time. This study will help us achieve our vision for Active Learners.

On Friday 15th March our school was a bright sea of orange as students participated in the National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence. Students participated in lessons in class, received their wrist band and enjoyed a performance by Action Education. The school funded performance (free for students) explored the definitions of bullying and bystanders. Scenarios helped children understand the different types of bullying and ways they can deal with bullying on their own and with the help of adults. Here are some reports by class captains….
What we learnt:- That bullying is bad and not tolerated at this school- Bystanders have the most power to tell the teacher everything - Bullying can hurt people’s feelings- Bullying can affect people for their whole lives- BULLYING DOESN”T MAKE YOU TOUGH!- If you are getting bullied you can make them stop- If you are the bystander you can make the bullying stop- You can’t retaliate in a bad way, you can tell a teacher straight away- If you’re getting bullied you can just ignore them and so…Bullying is not tolerated at E.H.P.S!!BY SAM & JOYCE (4S)
Bullying doesn’t make you tough
This Friday 15th of March we learnt some special messages. Firstly, bullying doesn’t make you tough. If you bully someone it doesn’t make you powerful.Secondly, being a bystander is harmful and wrong. The bystander can report it and make a difference. We think you should all be friendly because bullying doesn’t make you tough!!!

BULLYING NO WAY!!!
Rumir and Gyubin-3A
BULLYING DOESN’T MAKE YOU TOUGH
YOU have the power to be a BYSTANDER and fix the problem.
Every day should be Anti Bullying Day.
If you are being bullied like someone is calling you names or you have been hit by a bully, don’t retaliate otherwise you will be the one in trouble and not the bully.
I hope that you have learnt how to be a respectful, responsible and caring person and that you have chosen to be an active

We look forward to another important school event as we celebrate Harmony Day this Wednesday. Never before has it been more important for us all to support and respect diversity and teach our children to live in harmony with each other. PARENT INDUCTIONSLast week I held 2 sessions for parent and community helpers. We had another 55 helpers attend. Once again I was moved by the amount of community support we have and the way participants understood and respected the need to share key messages to ensure the Health and Safety and protection of all children and visitors to our school. Thank you to all those who have attended our inductions this year. If you wish to help at our school, but are unsure if you have completed all the requirements you can check with your child’s class teacher or call the office staff. There will be a catchup face to face induction in 2G’s room at 9.45am this Friday, 22 MarchCHILD SAFETY MESSAGEIf your child has an issue with another child, please see your child’s teacher, a member of the Executive team or myself. Please DO NOT approach another person’s child. This is unsafe and not respectful, as you are a stranger to that child. By speaking with school staff, we are able to support you and your child and address the issues you raise with all parties concerned in an appropriate manner. ONLINE SAFETYCyber-safety is a shared responsibility between home and school. We teach cyber-safety lessons to Years 2-6 as part of our Library program. Safe use of technology is also addressed K-6 as part of the in-class program. At school and home, when students sign into their Department of Education portal they have to agree to the following… Primary school

P & C Our school is supported by a friendly and active P & C who meet at 7p.m in the library on the second Tuesday of the month. Parents are most welcome to come and join meetings and it only costs $1 to become a voting member. The P & C committee leaders work tirelessly in many areas to support the smooth running of our school. They provide valuable services to you, the school community and support the work of teachers and myself.
If you have any ideas, questions or issues and you are unable to attend P & C yourself, please approach one of our friendly committee leaders.
We are still looking for a coordinator for the Community Relations Committee. This is a role highly valued by the school as it supports school initiatives and community engagement. If you are able to help, please contact the P & C. Please support our P & C Election Day BBQ this Saturday outside our school hall.

MULTICULTURAL HARMONY DAY LUNCH AT EHPS- MARCH 20
Harmony Day, 21 March, is a celebration of Australian Multiculturalism. It’s about community participation, inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone. This year our school will be celebrating Harmony Day on Wednesday 20 March. The children, teachers and our school community are encouraged to wear national dress or the colour orange.
EHPS is celebrating Harmony Day with A Taste of Harmony lunch for students and parents. Each stage group will be designated different areas to enjoy the multicultural lunch.
If you would like to attend, please bring a dish to share from your cuisine. You could consider bringing sushi, dumplings, noodles, pasta, sausage rolls, samosas, curry puffs, vegemite sandwiches, lamingtons or cut up fruit and vegetables. As this is only a tasting lunch, students should still bring their own lunch from home as normal. Please assist us by ensuring that all dishes are nut free. Children with allergies will need to bring their own treats on the day. To ensure the lunch runs smoothly we are asking for volunteers to man tables for Early Stage 1, Stage 1, Stage 2 and Stage 3.
Please also note that there will be no facility to re-heat or store food. If you are bringing hot food, please bring it to school at 12.00pm.
During the day the children will be involved in activities in classrooms with their buddy classes. As well as the Taste of Harmony lunch, we would love to see parents/grandparents sharing an aspect of their culture with their child’s class. This may include bringing in a special object of cultural significance, reading a story, playing a game, completing an art and craft activity, or teaching the children to write in your home language. Please speak to the class teacher regarding a suitable time during Harmony week.
If you are able to help assist on the day by setting up and/or serving the lunch could you please fill in the form (sent home today)and place it in the box in the office foyer.
Please come along and enjoy this special celebration with us. MISS TURRIFF, MRS STACEY AND MRS PARFETT

KEEP COUGHING KIDS HOME AND SEE YOUR GP.Whooping cough (also called pertussis) began increasing across NSW towards the end of 2018, especially in children between the ages of 5 and 14 years. NSW Health anticipates that this increase will continue into 2019.
School-aged children who are infected with whooping cough usually experience a troubling cough that can persist for months, but they rarely get severe illness. However they can spread the infection to younger siblings and other more vulnerable people, who are at higher risk of severe disease. Whooping cough can be a life threatening infection in babies.
What can you do to prevent whooping cough?1.Make sure vaccinations are up to date for all family members2.Be alert for symptoms of whooping cough3.Keep coughing kids home, to prevent them spreading the infection to others, and see your GP to get them tested for whooping cough
For more information on Whooping Cough and vaccination visit the NSW Health Website https://www.health.nsw.gov.au/Infectious/whoopingcough/Pages/default.aspx
