ENGLISH IMMERSION
Academic English for International Students (AEIS) offers several courses that improve
the English language of undergraduate students with TOEFL scores 61-87 or IELTS 6.0-
6.5. These credit classes include
� AEIS 101 and AEIS 102 – speaking courses
� AEIS 107 and AEIS 108 – reading courses
� AEIS 110, AEIS 111, and AEIS 112 – writing courses
� Students registered for AEIS 101, 107, and 110 will participate in the popular UO
International First-Year Interest Group Global Bridge
TWO PROGRAMS � GradPrep, designed for students who have already been admitted to a graduate program at
the UO or elsewhere, is a 3-week intensive program that meets from the end of August to
the middle of September. The program focuses on academic language, classroom culture,
graduate program expectations, and the exploration of on-campus resources.
� Academic English for Graduate Preparation runs for 3 terms starting in September. This
academy-type program covers the graduate application process by focusing on test taking
and extensive reading strategies, graduate level writing and editing, formal and informal
academic presentations, and group dynamics and leadership. As part of this program,
students apply to the graduate school of their choice.
ACADEMIC ENGLISH FOR GRADUATE PREPARATIONInternational graduate students enrolled at the UO take these courses to develop
and polish academic skills for success in their studies and professional endeavors.
Each course is 4 credits and graded Pass/No Pass.
