3. INNOVATION IN EDUCATION

Page 10: Eprofessional 110710194416-phpapp02

Introduction to Innovation in Education

• Education has not changed in centuries

• We are proposing an adaptation of Education to the new reality

• PLE (Personal Learning Environments) arise from that Innovation. They are the foundation of PLWE (Personal Learning and Work Environments)

• PLWE are the most important tool that eProfessionals use

New role and paradigms of innovation in learning

• New “Role”“Learning as an adaptation strategy for a networked Society

and Economy. This adaptation strategy involves the individual, organization and social aspects.”

• New paradigms of Innovation in Learning (e-learning 2.0):– Social Learning– Informal Learning– Workplace Learning and Performance Improvement– Self Managed Learning

Page 14: Eprofessional 110710194416-phpapp02

From LMS to PLE and SLN

• A) Learning Management Systems (LMS)

• B) Technologies and Tools (2.0) for Self Managed Learning (PLE)

• C) Social Learning Networks for collaborative learning– 'Sociedad y Tecnología'.

Page 18: Eprofessional 110710194416-phpapp02

Disadvantages of PLE

• Not everybody is confident enough to manage their own learning and design their own PLE.

• Not everybody wants to be a self managed eLearner

• The sophistication an big number of tools that can be used may scare people

• The organizations are scared of losing control of what people learn inside them

• LMS could be useful instead of PLE for novices to participate in easy to follow formal courses.

Page 19: Eprofessional 110710194416-phpapp02

Advantages of PLE• Best solution for self managed learning and informal

learning

• Learners are able to choose the best tools and best design for their learning needing

• Very useful for people that use Web 2.0 tools (social web).

• PLEs are really good for workplace learning and people that already knows about something and want to improve in that field.

• If you need an LMS, just include that in your set of learning tools in your own PLE.

Page 22: Eprofessional 110710194416-phpapp02

Introduction to PLWE• PLWE are the most important tool for

eProfesionals to use

• PLWE (Personal Learning and Work Environments) are the generalization of PLE (Personal Learning Environments) to the workplace

• Components of PLWE– PLM – Personal Learning Management

– PKM – Personal Knowledge Management

– PPM – Personal Productivity Management

The PLWE

Page 26: Eprofessional 110710194416-phpapp02

Components of PLWE• Though it is 'personal', at least, it should include...

• Web Browser with relevant ‘extensions’

• ‘Feed’ Reader (RSS)

• Social bookmarking

• Methods and tools that facilitate self managed learning

• Other Productivity Tools, related to daily activity.

• Evidence of competences and skills (ePortfolio)

• A personal daskboard that joins all the resources

• Note that… each eProfessional should consider themselves as a Professional in Learning and Personal Development (eLearner)

• Which components, resources and tools should be part of a PLWE?
