Equipment Lists for RNC450 Summary of changes

Id:0900d8058081d12bConfidential

Summary of changesChanges between document issues are cumulative. Therefore, the latest document issue contains all changes made to previous issues.

Changes between issue 2-2 and 03RRMU and NEMU related information is deleted. CCP1D-A, HDS-C and ESA40 related information is added.

Equipping rules are updated. HDS-C is one slot plug-in unit and HDS-B is two slots pulgin unit, so F15 is only occupied when use HDS-B.

Changes between issue2-1 and 2-2Section NIS1P, NIS1 and NIP1 equipping rules updated: equipping rules and restric-tions are described for each RNC450 capacity step separately.

Changes between issue 2-0 and 2-1A new CPU variant CCP18-C is taken into use. CCP18-A is still used with OMU, because the USB port is needed for backup purposes.

About Equipment lists for RNC450

1 About Equipment lists for RNC450Equipment lists for RNC450 provides a list of cabinet mechanics, subracks, and plug-in units installed in the RNAC and RNBC cabinets for RNC450. Sections RNAC cabinet and RNBC cabinet include the physical positions of the hardware items inside the cab-inets.

RNC450 features three capacity steps:

• RNC450 capacity step 1 = RNC450/150 (RNAC) • RNC450 capacity step 2 = RNC450/300 (RNBC Subrack 1–2) • RNC450 capacity step 3 = RNC450/450 (RNBC Subrack 3–4)

1.1 Related documentsCable ListsDetailed information on cabling and individual cables can be found in Cable Lists for RNC450.

Engineering DescriptionBasic information on, for example, RNC installation planning can be found in Engineer-ing for Radio Network Controller (RNC).

Installation ManualDetailed information on the installation of RNC hardware, see Installing the MGW and RNC.

Cabinet Interfaces and CablingDetailed information on cabinet interfaces and cabling can be found in Cabinet Inter-faces and External Cables of MGW and RNC.

1.2 Notations used in equipment listsThe equipment lists contain the columns shown in the figure below, with their contents described in the list which follows.

Figure 1 Notations used in the equipment lists

The positions are presented in the form of a table. The figure shows only one table type, but tables can have the following columns:

• Side indicates the side on which the unit in question is equipped. (F = Front, B = Back)

• Mounting hole no. indicates the number of the mounting hole used for the installation of the particular unit.

• Subrack indicates the subrack position of a specific unit. • Position shows the coordinates inside the rack and the number of the slot in the car-

tridge. • ID (Identification) shows the identification code of the cabinet, cartridge, plug-in unit,

or accessory. • Name shows the abbreviated name of the hardware product for the identification

code in the previous column.

About Equipment lists for RNC450

• PIU indicates the name of the plug-in unit in question. • FU (Functional Unit) shows the name and index number of the functional unit

equipped into the cartridge in this particular position. • Use shows the name and number of the functional unit, which contains the plug-in

units listed below and equipped in this cartridge position. • Notes column includes additional information.

When two or more different hardware products can be equipped in the same position, the identification code and name of each type is given.

2.2 RNAC functional units and plug-in units

Figure 4 Functional units of the RNAC cabinet

Equipping rulesCapacity step 1 includes all RNAC subracks. All units except the interface units (NIS1P, NIS1 and NIP1) are equipped in index order, starting from the lowest index. For equip-ping rules of the interface units, see section NIS1P, NIS1 and NIP1 equipping rules.

1. Install all units except NIS1P, NIS1 and NIP1 0 in index order, starting from the unit indexed as 0.

2. Install optional NIP1 0, if used.3. Install 2N redundant NIS1P pairs and non-redundant NIS1 units. See the equipping

rules and restrictions in section NIS1P, NIS1 and NIP1 equipping rules.4. Install cover plates for the slots that remain empty.5. If CCP1D-A is used for OMU or RSMU also redundant unit must be CCP1D-A. If

CCP1D-A is used for OMU the replacement of HDS-B to HDS-C is mandatory and standalone OMS should be used instead of integrated OMS.

The following units are ordered separately:

• Optional second ESA40-A/ESA24 • Optional NIP1 0 • NIS1P/NIS1 2–3 • NIS1P 10-11

NIS1P, NIS1 and NIP1 equipping rules

4 NIS1P, NIS1 and NIP1 equipping rulesThis section describes the equipping rules for interface units NIS1P, NIS1 and NIP1 in RNC450.

4.1 NIP1 equipping rulesRNC450 features one optional NIP1 0 unit. It can be equipped as an alternative to NIS1P 10 in RNAC subrack 3 slot 15.

When NIP1 0 is equipped, cabling changes are needed and the BIE1T/BIE1C back interface needs to equipped at the rear of the subrack. For the RNAC LVDS cabling changes, see Cable Lists for RNC450 and chapter 6 Adding optional NIP1 unit to RNC450.

4.2 NIS1P and NIS1 equipping rulesThe Network Interface Unit STM-1 (NI4S1-B) provides the RNC high bandwidth STM-1/OC-3 ATM interfaces. The unit might be configured either with 2N equipment protec-tion or without 2N equipment protection. When configured with 2N equipment protection the functional unit name is NIS1P. When configured without 2N equipment protection the functional unit name is NIS1.

Non-redundant NIS1 and 2N redundant NIS1P units can be mixed in the same network element. The number of units in mixed configuration is limited by the number of SFU ports available for the STM-1 interface units.

Number and type of STM-1/OC-3 interfaces and units in RNC450Table 11 STM-1/OC-3 ATM interfaces in RNC450 displays the type, and the number of interfaces supported by various RNC450 configurations.

Configuration Max number of unprotected units

Max number of 2N protected units

Number of unpro-tected interfaces (NIS1)

Number of pro-tected interfaces (NIS1P)

RNC450 step 1 4 4 or 61 (2 or 3 pairs) 16 8+8 or 12+12 1

RNC450 step 2 6 6 (3 pairs) 24 16+16 or 20+202

RNC450 step 3 12 12 (6 pairs) 24 24+24

1 6 units and 12+12 interfaces applies only if NIP1 is not used.2 10 units and 20+20 interfaces applies only if NIP1 is not used.
