CONTINUOUS STIRRED
TANK REACTORMODEL: BP 100
HE Continuous Stirred Tank Reactor (Model: BP 100) has been designed to introduce students of
Chemical Engineering on reactor and reaction behaviour. This type of reactor is one of the most important
industrial reactors. The unit comes with all the ancillary equipment except analytical instrumentation for theT
measurement of the composition of feed and product mixtures.
The unit includes a reactor vessel of approximately 4
litres total capacity, and is equipped with a variable
speed stirrer with digital display, inlet and outlet ports for
the feed and product streams, sampling, temperature
measurement and control. The reactant volume is
adjustable by an overflow device. Two non-corroding
feed storage vessels are supplied, together with
chemically resistant pumps and flowmeters. A product
collection vessel is also provided, thus allowing
approximately 1 to 2 hours continuous operation.
The reactor comes with a cooling coil for maintaining
the reaction temperature. A digital temperature controller
is also provided on the front panel. Both exothermic
and endothermic reactions can therefore be carried out
at constant temperature up to approximately 80 oC. A
conductivity meter is provided for the purpose of
determining the extent of conversion. A gas feed line is
included, complete with a gas sparging ring, a
flowmeter and a flow regulating valve to facilitate gas-
liquid reactions: e.g., oxidation.
