Thursday, May 5, 2016: MAP Testing Ends

Friday, May 6, 2016: No School

Last Day of the School Year: The last day for students will be Friday, May 27, 2016. The Bloomingdale

Board of Education amended the school calendar at the April 25th School Board Meeting.

MAP Assessment: Students in all grade levels have been participating in MAP testing from April 25, 2016

– May 5, 2016. The MAP Assessment is a computerized test administered to students three times a year

(Fall, Winter, & Spring). Results from the MAP Assessment will be sent home along with Report Cards at

the end of the school year.

Teacher Appreciation Week: Teachers are real life superheroes. They educate, innovate, encourage and

support. Every day they touch the lives of millions of children and their work and impact extends far

beyond the boundaries of the classroom. Take the time to celebrate these real life superheroes during

Portfolio Night: Parents and students are invited to attend Erickson Elementary School on Thursday,

May 12, 2016, for Portfolio Night from 6:30 pm – 8:00 pm. This is a wonderful opportunity for students

to present their portfolio of work from the 2015-2016 school year.

IN CELEBRATION OF WRITING……. Erickson Elementary students and parents are invited to 

enjoy a light breakfast while writing poetry!  Students must attend with an adult.  Donuts, 

muffins, juice, coffee, and poetry activities will be provided from 7:45 am – 8:20 am in the 

Erickson gym. 

For ordering purposes indicate how many donuts/muffins (1 per person) and return to office.

PORTFOLIO NIGHT Thursday, May 12, 2016

CausePaws for a

Each classroom will “adopt” a pet from April 19th-29th from the Animal Humane Society.

Students, staff, and families will raise money for their adopted pet by putting money in their class’ “doghouse”.

The classroom who collects the most money by the end of the month wins a class pizza party!

4th Grade Students BEGINNER BAND

On Wednesday, May 4, District 13 Band Director, Sue Metzger, will be at Erickson Elementary during the school day to meet with interested fourth graders and try out band instruments. Parents & students should determine three instruments that they would be interested in trying out prior to attending the event. Band instrument choices include: Flute, Clarinet, Alto Sax, Trumpet, Trombone, Baritone, & Percussion. On Wednesday, May 11, there will be an informational meeting for parents of interested beginning band students at 5:30 pm at Erickson Elementary. An overview of the band program will be provided and representatives from the Music and Arts Center will be available to answer any questions regarding renting an instrument.

Kendall Hughes is a 5th grade student at Erickson Elementary

School. Due to a recent medical diagnosis, Kendall has been

unable to attend school for the past couple months.

We ask that you keep the Hughes Family in your thoughts and

prayers.

The Hughes Family has created a GoFundMe page and donations

Bloomingdale Education Foundation

Mission The Bloomingdale School District 13 Education Foundation is a non-profit, independent tax-exempt corporation, founded in 1998, to provide special opportunities and experiences for the children and staff of our district. Long term, the community cannot rely solely on traditional funding to ensure quality public education; private, supplemental support is required. The Foundation will raise and channel donations for creative and innovative projects that will benefit District 13.
