Kids in the Know: Erin’s Law
Dear Parents/Guardians,
As you know, this year we will be continuing the educational program titled Kids in the Know. Kindergarten, First, and Second Grade students will participate in the program in the Fall & Winter. Third, Fourth, and Fifth grade students will participate in the program in the Spring. Kids in the Know was developed in order to teach personal safety strategies to children. The program’s purpose is to reduce child victimization by teaching lessons on personal safety as well as sexual abuse safety. Due to the sensitive nature of this program, I want to provide further information regarding the lessons:
Kindergarten Lessons:
● An Adult You Can Go To For Help ● Safe and Unsafe Touch ● The Buddy System ● Saying No ● Lost in a Store ● Lost in a Park
First Grade Lessons: ● An Adult You Can Go To For Help ● Feelings ● Boundaries ● Keep and Speak Secrets ● The Buddy System ● Trust Your Instincts
Second Grade Lessons: ● Identifying a Safe Adult ● Safety Awareness ● The Buddy System ● Emotions ● Crossing Boundaries ● Keep and Speak Secrets
Additional information regarding the Kids in the Know program can be found at: kidsintheknow.ca/parents If you have any questions or concerns regarding the Kids in the Know program, please feel free to contact me at 630-529-2223. Sincerely, Jillian Justice School Social Worker
