Welcome to 2020 and what is set to be another year of engaging teaching and learning opportunities. A wonderful welcome to all new families that are joining Ermington Public School and a warm welcome to Kindergarten 2020 and the Year 5 Opportunity Class. I would like to thank the school community for following the recommendations and expectations regarding Novel Coronavirus as communicated by the Departments of Education and Health which are the appropriate information channels. Since the commencement of school, the administrative, executive and teaching staff have been working with students and their families to ensure the health, safety and wellbeing of all. All information has been provided through the School eNews app and as soon as any update are released, information is provided to the community via this app. In order to support the school community and ensure maximum attendance, we have postponed our Meet the Teacher Evening. School Organisation for 2020 - “It takes a village to raise a child.” At Ermington PS we value working in partnership with parents/carers to ensure all students are Engaged, Proud and Successful. All students are individuals! Like adults they have different needs and different personalities. Some students may speak a different language at home or some may still be learning English. Some students may wear glasses and some may need instructions to be repeated. Other students might need to use assistive technology to help them learn. Some may need extension tasks and some may need regular encouragement and additional support to persevere in learning activities. All students are unique and we are proud of the diversity of students at Ermington Public School. The outstanding staff at Ermington Public School are committed to working with you, your child and with each other to improve student learning and wellbeing outcomes.

School Transformation In 2019, our school underwent significant building works and I am pleased to report that A, B and C Blocks are almost complete. Carpet has been updated in most buildings across the school and toilet blocks attached to buildings have been freshly painted. New furniture has also been coordinated for some areas in the school. I know the students will benefit from the quality learning environments and I am certain all students will continue to take pride in their school.
Novel Coronavirus: Update advice for Parents – 2 February 2020 Current advice from the Australian Government Department of Health for parents in regards to the Novel Coronavirus is:
Any student and staff arriving in Australia from 1 February 2020 who has been in mainland China or transited through mainland China (not just Hubei province) is excluded from school and child care services for a period of 14 days from the date they left mainland China as the Novel Coronavirus’ incubation period can be as long as two weeks.
Any confirmed case of Novel Coronavirus will be excluded until they are medically cleared to return Close contact of a confirmed case of Novel Coronavirus will be excluded for 14 days since last contact with
the confirmed case. Any student and staff arriving before 1 February our previous advice remains that students and staff who
were in Hubei province are excluded from school or child care services for 14 days, and those who were in the rest of China are requested not to not attend school or child care services for a period of 14 days after leaving China.
More information can be found at NSW Health.
Students who returned to Australia from mainland China more than 14 days ago and have shown no symptoms are able to return to school. The Ministry of Health has processes in place to identify any close contacts of cases confirmed in Australia. Advice about not attending school would be provided to these close contacts by the Ministry of Health. There has been a small number of confirmed cases of novel coronavirus in NSW. Consistent with current guidelines, staff and students who are unwell with respiratory illness should remain at home until symptoms resolve. In accordance with our current practice if any child becomes unwell we will implement our infection control guidelines and follow the advice provided by the Ministry of Health as appropriate. The Department of Education will continue to work with the Ministry of Health to monitor and respond to the unfolding international novel coronavirus situation.
