BREAKFAST PROGRAM Students who haven’t had a chance to have breakfast at home are welcome to check out the Breakfast Program offered everyday at 8:30 in The Learning Centre. Healthy breakfast foods such as pancakes, egg sandwichs & yogurt parfaits are served. This program is offered to students free of charge. LUNCH PROGRAM ESJH offers a meal option for our students every day for lunch with no choice being more than $2.00. Pizza, hot dogs, chicken nuggets, pasta bake, fajita bowls, bbq burgers, perogies are some of the options offered on a rotating basis through the school cycle. Options are displayed on our hallway monitors as well as relayed during announcements. ESJH GAZETTE MARCH EDITION Hopefully, many of you have seen the information provided by the school division pertaining to updated safety procedures. I want to add my comments specifically relating to the HOLD and SECURE designation to make sure we are all on the same page. When would we use HOLD and SECURE at ESJH? If a potential threat is identified in the community outside of the building. How would a HOLD and SECURE procedure look at ESJH? Exterior doors would be locked and there would be no entry or exit of the building. Classes inside would continue as usual. Can I sign out my child if a HOLD and SECURE procedure is in place? No. Parents would be notified when the HOLD and SECURE designation has been lifted. You have my assurance as a community member and a father of two LSSD students that the safety of your children is my top priority. We are fortunate to have a dynamic and dedicated staff at Ecole Selkirk Jr. High who share my values of a safe and respectful school environment. If you have any questions around emergency procedures don’t hesitate to call me directly. Suns Basketball put on quite a display at the FINAL FOUR night held recently at the Comp. Three divisional banners were added to our extensive collection by the Gr.8 girls, Gr.9 girls, and Gr.9 boys teams. Great job to the coaches and athletes! Personnel update … long serving Educational Assistant Mike Buzzi has decided to turn in his school keys to enroll in an EMS training program. I have known the ‘Buzz’ since he was in Gr.8 at Lockport School and wish him all the best in following his dreams. We welcome Baylee Gunter onto the roster as she will be taking over for Buzzi for the remainder of the year. Go Suns! Mr. Loeppky, Principal

MARCH EDITION

Hopefully, many of you have seen the information

provided by the school division pertaining to updated

safety procedures. I want to add my comments

specifically relating to the HOLD and SECURE

designation to make sure we are all on the same page.

When would we use HOLD and SECURE at ESJH? If a

potential threat is identified in the community outside

of the building.

How would a HOLD and SECURE procedure look at

ESJH? Exterior doors would be locked and there would

be no entry or exit of the building. Classes inside

would continue as usual.

Can I sign out my child if a HOLD and SECURE

procedure is in place? No. Parents would be notified

when the HOLD and SECURE designation has been

lifted.

You have my assurance as a community member and a

father of two LSSD students that the safety of your

children is my top priority. We are fortunate to have a

dynamic and dedicated staff at Ecole Selkirk Jr. High

who share my values of a safe and respectful school

environment. If you have any questions around

emergency procedures don’t hesitate to call me

directly.

FOUR night held recently at the Comp. Three divisional

banners were added to our extensive collection by the

Gr.8 girls, Gr.9 girls, and Gr.9 boys teams. Great job to

the coaches and athletes!

Mike Buzzi has decided to turn in his school keys to

enroll in an EMS training program. I have known the

‘Buzz’ since he was in Gr.8 at Lockport School and wish

him all the best in following his dreams. We welcome

Baylee Gunter onto the roster as she will be taking over

for Buzzi for the remainder of the year. Go Suns!

This year is our 10th Anniversary and our 8th season offering farm field trips to students. Over the past 8 years, the number of students visiting and learning about agriculture is staggering! We average 100+ students per day in May/June and again late September/October. That means more than 50,000 students have visited our farm since our first farm programs began in June, 2011. We've grown and developed some of the best programs in MB for your students and we're still working on new things for 2019! We are requesting that our 2019 brochure be approved for distribution to the elementary schools within your division via electronic format. Attached is the pdf file containing the information for teachers. Here is the online link to our Schools Page which further outlines the content of our school programs. https://www.deermeadowfarms.com/school-programs.html Thank-you, VInce Rattai obo/The Farm Team

FIRE on ICE

The Fire on Ice game kicked off our Spirit Week on Monday, March 18th!! The whole

school headed over to the ESMS rink for a couple of intense staff vs. student hockey

games!! The Grade 8’s were up first but unfortunately lost to the teachers 9-3. Even

though they were warmed up and still riding the high from their win, the Grade 9

students managed to beat the teachers by just ONE point!!! Students won 4-3! It was a

lot of fun for the students to be on the sidelines cheering on their favorite teacher or

best friend. There was a canteen open as well for the students to enjoy some treats!
