6. TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS:
6. a) Constructional Features:Power Control Centers and Motor Control Centers
PCC/MCC have been successfully type tested at Central Power Research Institute,
Bangalore for “Verification of Short Circuit Strength” at 50KA for 1 second as per
relevant IS specification.
Panels are made out of 14/16 SWG CRCA sheet metal totally enclosed, duct &
vermin proof, fully compartmentalized, cubical design and modular construction.
All the doors & covers are provided with neoprene rubber gaskets to obtain the
dust proof enclosure. Feeder doors are provided with concealed hinges for better
aesthetic appearance. All cutouts for the indicating equipments on the doors (like
Push Buttons, Indicating Lamps, Meters & Protection Relays etc,) are made on
Power Press/ Hand Press to get better finish.
Separate horizontal/ vertical busbar chambers are provided as required. Separate
vertical cable chambers at the side/ rear side of each unit chamber with adequate
space are provided for the easy and maintenance free termination.
We have standardized the design and size of the panel cubicles, busbar chambers,
vertical cable chambers.
We use non-hygroscopic SMS supports for the Bus Bar for better mechanical and
electrical strength and to ensure capability to withstand specified fault current.
The Bus Bars are insulated with heat shrinkable PVC sleeves and all the live parts
are shrouded by Acrylic/ FRP sheet to avoid accidental contact.
Double Bus Bar system with suitable electrical and mechanical interlocks for
various EB & DG incomers with bus couplers as per the system requirements are
provided.
Cable Termination & Control Wiring:
All Power and Control wiring terminals are brought out in the cable alley for easy
cabling at site and both ends of the wire are ferruled for identification. The wiring
is neatly bunched for easy location and easy tracing too.
Cable entries and terminals shall be provided in the switchboard to suit the
number, type and size of aluminum conductor power cables and copper conductor
control cables. Supporting clamps are provided in the cable chamber to tie up the
cables to avoid direct cable load on the termination.
Provision shall be made for top and bottom entry of cables as required by the
customer. Generous size of cabling chambers shall be provided with the position of
cable glands and terminals such that cables can be easily and safely terminated.
All control wiring shall be carried out with stranded copper conductor of 1.5 sq.mm
11KV grade ISI mark wires wherever required.
Painting Process Adopted:
After total completion of fabrication, the panel is taken for seven tank zinc
phosphating metallic surface chemical treatment for degreasing, derusting and
phosphating for increasing the paint adhesion to metal and then forwarded for
powder coating.
The importance of de-greasing, de-rusting and phosphating process is as given
below:
i) De-greasing
Normally all metal articles are subjected to oil, dirt and grease on surface.
This shall be removed by Alkaline De-greasing Chemical.
ii) De-rusting
To remove rust and scale formation on the metal, it should be treated with
Acidic De-rusting Chemical.
iii) Phosphating
The phosphating of the metal is very much desired to get Zinc coating on the
metal surface to prevent corrosion from the atmosphere during drying
process of metal after metal treatment.
Pre- treatment:
The quality of powder coating film is largely dependent on the proper surface
preparation of the base metal. After through inspection and checkup of each
component for the clean surface (free from oil, dust, grease and rust) are sent to
the powder coating section.
Coating/ Powder spraying:
The pre-treated and properly dried components/ equipments will be kept in the
powder coating booth and the powder will be applied to it through electrostatic
coating process, maintaining a voltage of 100KV, thus forming an even uniform
layer over the substrate. (recommended coating thickness – 50 microns). State of
the art powder spraying equipments which generate high voltage of 100KV, having
Page 11 of 56
excellent transfer efficiency of powder on to the components/ equipments.
Experienced and skilled coaters to give a uniform coating thickness all over the
components/ equipments.
Curing/ Heating:
The coated components/ equipments will now be kept in the oven for curing at a
temperature of 190°c for 15 to 20 minutes. In this process the powder particles
first melt and thermosetting will take place and a uniform protective layer will be
formed on the components/ equipments. The toughness and durability of the
coated film is dependent on the proper heating of the components/ equipments,
maintaining correct baking temperature and time. The correct baking temperature
and time is achieved by using the reputed thermostats and digital temperature
indicators.
The coating thus obtained from the above process will have excellent physical and
chemical properties and will give the products the required toughness and
durability and the extra edge by way of great finish.
Tests:
Routine tests shall be conducted on the Power Control center in accordance with
IS: 8623 and shall comprise:
i) Inspection of the Power Control Center including inspection of wiring and
electrical operational tests where necessary.
ii) Dielectric Tests with High Voltage Tester.
iii) Insulation Test with 1000 Volt/ 500v Megger.
iv) Checking of protective measures and electrical continuity of the protective
circuits.
