RespectLife October is Respect Life month. We re lect on the importance of life itself and how we can bring about a greater appreciation of this gift. The Respect Life Committee will host a Tri-ParishPro-LifeProcession around our Lemont area on Sunday, October 6th. The procession will begin at 3:00 p.m. at the Ss. Cyril & Methodius Church Grotto area and conclude here at St. Alphonsus Church with a prayer service. Also, in honor of supporting the gift of life, we will once again have our annual “BabyBottleCollection”. The collection is used to help the Women’s Centers of the Greater Chicagoland area. All we are asked is to donate our spare change, putting it into the baby bottles that are provided and return each bottle before the end of the month. MinistryFair Next Sunday, October13th, we will have a MinistryFair in conjunction with our monthly “DonutSunday”after the Sunday Morning Masses. There will be representatives from the various ministries who need volunteers to continue growing our St. Alphonsus Parish liturgies. Please join us for donuts, coffee and juice and take time to re lect on where you can contribute to our parish! AltarServers Speaking of ministry, one area that really helps our boys and girls learn more about the Mass and gives them a role in the liturgies is being an Altar Server. There will be Altar Server training on Tuesday,October8th and Thursday,October17th from 5:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. in St. Alphonsus Church. We ask that those who are interested should be in 4th Grade or older. Please join us as we continue to grow our Altar Server ministry! RenewMyChurchUpdate The Lemont Renew My Church Team has completed the process of reviewing the various scenarios for the Lemont parishes and schools. Writers from each parish have composed a Scenario Feedback Presentation for the Archdiocese of Chicago RenewMyChurch Board on October22nd. If the schedule continues on as planned, we expect to hear CardinalCupich’s decision in regards to our Lemont parishes and schools on November8th. Tri-ParishDailyMass The Tri-Parish7:30a.m.DailyMass will be celebrated during the month of October at Ss. Cyril and Methodius in the main Church building. St. Alphonsus Church will host the combined St. Alphonsus/St. Patrick 7:30 a.m. Daily Mass in November.

Welcome Guests and Visitors. . . We’re so glad that you’re here and invite you to join us in thanksgiving for God’s action in our lives. Our goal is to provide a spiritual home where all are welcome, where the healing, reconciling, liberating love of God flows through us to all people. In this way, we believe that the Church is the sacrament of God’s saving presence in the world.
“Please come to Mass early enough not to disrupt. Leave late enough not to insult (the Mass does not end until the final blessing).
Worship reverently enough not to distract. Dress proudly enough not to offend.”
Pray for our Team:

RENEW MY
CHURCH
Have you been looking for a way to volunteer here at St. Alphonsus, but not sure where to start? Join us on Sunday, October 13th after Mass for Donut Sunday & a Ministry Fair! We will have representatives from different ministries available to answer any questions you may have. We need you! Come and learn how you can help!
Faith is a gift. When the disciples asked Jesus to increase their faith, they were going to the source of that faith with their request. God is the giver of all good gifts, including faith. When we put our faith in Christ, we believe that God is with us, even though we cannot physically see God. Or can we? If we are attentive, we see the evidence of God’s presence in the love of family and friends, care poured out
in service of our neighbors, the living beauty of creation. This is not blind faith, but rather is the result of seeing with the eyes of faith. Followers of Jesus look beyond what is apparent to see what is possible with the power and presence of the Holy Spirit within and among us. Copyright (c) J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.
SENIOR KINDRED SPIRITS Join us for fun, fellowship and food! The next meeting will be Tuesday, October 22nd at 11:30am in the St. Alphonsus Parish Center. An auto mechanic will be giving helpful tips on auto care and answer some questions you may have about car maintenance. Please call Pat Browne at 630-257-2732 by Thursday, October 17th if you are planning to attend.

NO SESSIONS NEXT WEEK… 10/13 & 16.
LITTLE TYKES FOR CHRIST BEGINS ON WEDNESDAY, Oct 9th! Our program for children ages 3-5 will kick off this week from 6:15-7:15pm in the Church Hall. Parents take part in religious stories, activities, and prayer with their children. It’s not too late! Contact the RE Office to register
3 STEPS TO KEEP YOUR CHILDREN CATHOLIC Catholic apologist, Patrick Madrid, asks, “Do you know the early warning signs of a young Catholic losing his faith? I do. I’ve seen them countless times in many young people over my nearly thirty-year career in Catholic apologetics and evangelization. They include: • Apathy • Uncertainty and doubt • Giving in to difficult moral challenges and temptations • Feeling unloved or unaccepted by fellow Catholics
No doubt you’ve seen these warning signs in people you know. And maybe you’ve noticed these red flags with your own children. If so, don’t worry; I’m not here to judge you! In fact, I can help.” He offers 3 steps you can take to help your children. The first 2 follow, and the 3rd will be in next week’s bulletin. (1) Family prayer – Mr. Madrid strongly encourages praying the family rosary. He acknowledges that it may be a challenge at times to gather the whole family together, but he insists that the spiritual benefits of praying the rosary as a family are enormous, especially if each child is allowed to take part in reciting this beautiful prayer. He notes that other acts of piety such as prayer before and after meals (every meal), night prayers with devotions like the act of contrition, the prayer to Saint Michael the Archangel, etc., can strengthen young people in their faith. (2) Lead by example - Faith must inform the daily routine and decisions in your home, insists Patrick. “Children must see their parents as truly prayerful. Not in a showy way, but in a way they can see.” Our pastor when I first came to St. Alphonsus, Fr. Kevin Spiess, shared that seeing his father praying by himself in his bedroom made a significant impression on him and his faith development. Mr. Madrid suggests looking to almighty God trustingly throughout the day and warns against being too proud to ask for help from above. Beyond the externals of prayer and piety in the home, Madrid insists that “children need to see that Mom and Dad are imbued with the results. They need to see you live out the gifts of faith, mercy, and forgiveness.” It does seem to make sense. I will share more of his wisdom and advice for parents next week.

Lemont Catholic Anoin ng of the Sick Bilingual Mass
On Saturday, November 9th SS. Cyril & Methodius Parish will
celebrate the Anointing of the Sick at the 11 AM Mass. This will be a bilingual (English-Polish) Mass. We extend an invitation to those in our Lemont Catholic Family who feel that the Celebration of Anointing will provide help for them in sickness and in the aging of their bodies. In the past, the anointing was done near the time of death. Theology today understands anointing as the Sacrament of the Sick rather than at the time of approaching death. The Anointing of the Sick is the prayer of Christ and His Church for the physical and spiritual health of the sick person. Who may be anointed? A sick person may be anointed before he/she
undergoes surgery, whether or not the surgery is serious.
Persons with chronic illness. Older persons, even if they are not suffering from
dangerous illness. Mentally disabled persons and chemically
dependent persons. A sick child may be anointed in order to be
comforted and uplifted by the Sacrament. After the Mass, there will be a luncheon for all those who attend in our school gym. In order for us to prepare for this luncheon, we ask that you RSVP by calling Trish at 630-257-2776 or emailing her at [email protected] no later than Wednesday, October 30. We hope you can join us for food and fellowship!
