What’s Inside

Under the guidance of Hall’s new Quality & Com-pliance Manager Luis (Gabe) Bohorquez, 5 Access Road in Piscataway underwent its BRC audit in May. Thanks to the team at the 275,000 square foot, ambi-ent and temperature controlled space, it became the third Hall’s facility to earn certifi cation.

BRC stands for British Retail Consortium. They de-veloped the standards for best practices in the food and manufacturing industries. The BRC Global Stan-dard for Storage and Distribution, originally introduced in 2006, insures that product integrity during storage and distribution is maintained, and that customer con-fi dence is upheld through audit and certifi cation.

According to Bohorquez, they were able to estab-lish the BRC culture at 5 Access Road from the very beginning because so many of the employees were

new. With the support of Edison Warehouse Manager, now Access Road Facility Manager Fred Diem, who had successfully completed the process once before, and contractor Mark Ogonowski from the offi ce of Compliance, things went smoothly.

5 Access Road Earns BRC Certifi cation (Conʼt)

the changes were, why and who approved them. This is just one way BRC procedures ensure that everyone is referring to and using the exact same information.

Something else Bohorquez has noticed is how taking the time to explain the reasons behind cer-tain requests provides clarity, while also demon-strating the importance behind different tasks. For example, rather than just telling them to inspect a truck, they’re told that dirt in the trailer could lead

to food contamination, or a hole in the roof might allow water to drop in and contaminate food in transit. As a result, employees are now bringing up issues and offering solutions on their own. Bo-horquez believes that no one has better solutions than the people doing the job all day.

The goal is to eventurally have all eight Hall’s facilities certifi ed. Meanwhile, they already share the same BRC standard documents and process-es. All that remains is their BRC audit.

Hallʼs Celebrates Long-Time Employees at 22nd Annual Presidentʼs Club Celebration

President’s Club

This year’s President’s Club celebration took place on April 6th at the Neshanic Valley Golf Club in Neshanic Station, NJ. Ninety Hall’s employees and guests enjoyed dinner and a show featuring Illusionist Jay Mattioli, the youngest magician in history to be recognized by his international peers as a two-time champion of stage magic.

Mattioli, who has performed around the world and on America’s Got Talent and Showtime at the Apollo, wowed the audience with his innovative tricks and stage antics. He even made Hall’s employees part of the show.

The President’s Club dinner honors Hall’s employees who’ve been with the company 15 years or more. As of the end of 2018, there were 102 members of this distinguished group. Forty-fi ve (45) members have been with Hall’s between 15 and 19 years. Forty (40) people have worked at Halls between 20 and 29 years. Thirteen (13) have been with the company for 30 to 39 years, and four have been with Hall’s for over 40 years. Thank you to all who continue to drive the company’s success.

Training & Certifi cations

On April 13, nearly 3 dozen Hall’s employees from seven facilities devoted their saturday to Multi-Modal Dan-gerous Goods Transportation Compliance Training as required by Department of Transportation, International Air Transport Association and the International Maritime Dangerous Goods code. We’d like to thank Quality and Com-pliance Manager Luis Bohorquez for coordinating the training, and the following people who gave up half of their weekend to ensure that Hall’s remains up to date with the requirements of these three important industry regulators.

Did You Know?

Tech Tip #13

Print ScreenAlternatives

If you press the Print Screen (PrtScr) key on your keyboard, your PC will make a copy of the screenshot so you may use it to paste into a document, email, etc. That’s a very handy and simple way to document a screenshot. Of course, that image will contain the entire contents of your screen including your taskbar as well as every window that’s open at the time you press the Print Screen key. But what if you only want to capture a portion of your screen or only the active window? Did you know there are some alternatives available?

To take a screenshot of just the active window, use the Alt + Print Screen keys. This will save the active window only and not anything else that may appear on the screen.

If you wish to select a portion of the screen image for your screenshot, try the Snipping Tool application using this icon.

If you don’t see this icon on your desktop, just type in “snipping tool” into the Windows search box at the lower left corner of your screen.

NOTE: If your keyboard doesn’t have a Print Screen key, type “on screen keyboard” into the Windows search box to access a virtual keyboard right on your screen.
