BRIDGE OVER PARVATI AT JIA ON NH21
There are many significant bridge projects underway in India. Many more such interesng projects are in the pipeline too. All of which will, apart from increasing the country´s large network of exisng bridges (esmated to be around 5.5 lakh), will also stand tesmony to the giant leap that the Indian bridge engineering and construcon has taken, in the last few decades.India has amazing network of different type bridges around the country from river bridge to sea bridge & rail bridges to road bridges. Rail-cum-road bridges of India are the major part of Indian rail and road network to connect every city and operate at the same me
In the last few decades remarkable technologies have been adopted in Indian bridge construcon including the latest cable stayed technology. ´Cable-stayed technology is one of the latest entrants in India, though it was used once in 1992 in Vidyasagar Setu over the river Hooghly in Kolkata. Apart fromcable stayed bridges, there have been extra-dosed spans, arch bridges, PSC box girder (segmental construcon) etc.´On the other hand, repair and rehabilitaon of old bridges is yet another potenal area. Several bridges in India are more than 100 years old, requiring repair and retrofing.
Bridge engineering in India has taken a giant leap over the past 50 years. We are now equaling any developed Country, when it comes to bridge types. India has fantasc combinaons of bridge technologies, such as cable supported bridges, canlever construcon bridges, arch bridges, long span/tall pier bridges, use of state of the art seismic devices, etc. Some of the notable examples are Nivedita Bridge, Signature Bridge, Jia Bridge, Bangalore Hosur Elevated Expressway, Delhi Metro, Allahabad Bypass Bridge, etc.
