    Introduction:

This Article gives you a Brief idea on How to create RFC Connection between Data stage and SAP BI.

    Business Scenario:

In your Scenario, Your Company requires Data from SAP BI to Data stage. You were asked to setup the connection between Data stage and SAP BI.

    Steps:

    1. System Prerequisites

    1.1. DataStage requirements

SAP BW pack which can connect DataStage v.8 to SAP BW v.7 must be available

The DataStage client component DataStage Administrator for SAP must be installed.

DataStage Admin user with non expirable password is required.

    DataStage ETL project already created

    1.2. SAP BI requirements

The Exact Source system name as maintained in ETL or SOURCE. (Care should be taken to define this correctly including Capitals, spaces and special characters. The name should be exactly as defined at the source level.)

The kind of connection defined at the source (Type and release)

    2. Access Rights, Firewall, User Creation

All the below are MANDATORY Pre-requisites.

    2.1. Firewall Settings

IN general the firewall must be switched off before installing the DataStage Pack

    2.2. User Creation

User to be created with Admin rights for DataStage.

Username dsadm(Used this username as an Example).

    Password Contact Authorized person/project owner

    3. DataStage ETL Steps

    Step 1:

Open DataStage Administrator for SAP for the concerned project and click on new

    Step 2:

Provide all the information requested in the page.

All the information on this page will be supplied by BW consultant. The connection name and description is a free text.

    Step 3:

Attached is the connection creation detail of a sample system .

    Step 4:

This page details appears automatically once you fill in the previous tab.

Click on OK. If the page closes without error then it implies that connection to BW system is established without error

    Step5:

If step 4 is unsuccessful, then step 5 cannot be done.

Once BW connection is established define the connections details to DataStage.

One Sap BW connection can have multiple DataStage connections defined as its source system

Select your SAP BW connection and Click on source system to define DataStage connections

    Step 6:

Define the details as given below and the BW load RFC server program ID must be informed to BW consultant to enable him to define DataStage connections. Program ID must not have any spaces

    between them.

    Step7:

Define all the parameters and use a DataStage admin username and non expirable password to create the connection.

Click on O.K. If the window closes successfully without error then it implies that DataStage connection is established successfully.

    Step8:

Once Source system (DataStage) connection is established successfully click on Monitor RFC to check for the status of the connection.

    The connection must be opened.

On failure, restart the SAP BW and DataStage machine to complete the connection successfully.

From the cmd mode type net stop "DataStage RFC Manager" and then net start "DataStage RFC Manager" to bring up the RFC server

    SAP BW Steps

    Step1:

To create a new Source systems go to T-code RSA1, Source systems tab

    Step2:

On the Source Systems, Right Click and say create new source system

    Step3:

Here you get various options depending on the kind of source systems your BW system is connected to.

    Step4:

In our case our source system is ETL and is a third party system hence we select third part source system.

    Step5:

A new Source system gets created which will ask you to input parameters as shown below

    Step6:

Give the Logical system name ,Source system name and Type and Release as TCP/IP.

    Step13:

To end the creation of the Source system, Right click on the new source system and click CHECK and ACTIVATE in sequence and your source system is ready to load data.

    Step14:

Please note that all your info providers and master data info objects and transaction data info objects need to mapped individually to this new source system

    Testing

After successful creation of connectivity, test it by loading data from DataStage v8.0.1 to SAP BW.
