1. As of 31 December 2015, the number of staff in the department stands at 1,903, in all categories, as compared to 1,885 in 2014.

2. This represents an increase of about 18 people.

3. However, without the input of contract workers, now standing at 1,686, in numbers, the department will be in a position of severe shortage of staff, particularly for field work as SFM expands. This must be addressed quickly to ensure sustenance of manpower needs.

4. It is also essential to absorb contract workers to permanent status in the interest of job security.
