Page 9: E&T Project Journey Riley Truman Xing Jian Audrey Serena.

Week 5-Observation & Interview

• We are required to draft out 15 interview questions based on our final product we chose.

• Then, we use the POEMS framework when interviewing our users.

Page 10: E&T Project Journey Riley Truman Xing Jian Audrey Serena.

POEMS framework

• PEOPLE: Individuals involved in the activity

• OBJECTS: Things people interact with while doing the activity

• ENVIRONMENT: The space, settings or location where the activity takes place

• MESSAGES/MEDIA: Information that is being transferred during the activity

• SERVICES: Services by people or system which enable the activity

Page 11: E&T Project Journey Riley Truman Xing Jian Audrey Serena.

Goals for our Interview

• Gathering information• Seeking out different perspectives• Pulling out as much information from interviewees as

possible

Page 12: E&T Project Journey Riley Truman Xing Jian Audrey Serena.

our TARGET USERS

• Teenagers and above.• Those who frequently use portable speakers to listen to

music.

Page 13: E&T Project Journey Riley Truman Xing Jian Audrey Serena.

Our Interview Questions

• Do you listen to music?

• When will you use your phone as speakers? Will you use it often? Why or why not?

• Do you own a portable speaker? If yes, are you satisfied with its size and overall performance? If no, is it because of the cost or some other reasons?

• Do you think current portable speakers in the market spoil quickly?

• Do you think it is trendy nowadays to own a portable speaker?

• When you are with your peers, do you usually play music in the background?

• Do you feel that when using portable speakers instead of larger audio speaker, you are sacrificing the quality of sound?

• What do you think of our product? (show sketches & features)

• What do you like about our product?

• Do you think that there is anything to improve for our product to make it more appealing to users?

• Do you believe that while compressing the size, our product still keep the high quality of sound many expensive speakers possess?

Our Findings Who we interviewed

1. Novi

2. Brian

3. Mrs. See

4. Leon

Page 15: E&T Project Journey Riley Truman Xing Jian Audrey Serena.

Our FindingsKey Insights Gathered from Novi

• To some extent, because of the limitations due to size, the performance might be sacrificed to compensate for more compact speakers.

• The idea of it sounds good. • An issue of it being the shape of a cube. Because it’s a cube, it can be

kind of bulky as it is literally a cube. Cube is uncomfortable in the pocket. Unless it is longer or flatter.

• Bluetooth feature is good because cables can be troublesome at times.• Suggestion to the improvement of physical features.• A lot of speakers in the market that still produce quite a decent quality

for sound, but they are not very compact or small. • Doubt whether a small portable speaker will be able to work fully well.

Page 16: E&T Project Journey Riley Truman Xing Jian Audrey Serena.

Our FindingsKey Insights Gathered from Brian Wong

• Quality is the most important.• Extraordinary in terms of its size as our team have

improved sound quality without enlarging it as compensation.

• Shape of the speaker (Would not be comfortable in the pocket if it is in the shape of a cube).

• Highly doubt that a small portable speaker can succeed because we need to take into consideration the speaker’s functions and whether it could fit into such a small size.

Page 17: E&T Project Journey Riley Truman Xing Jian Audrey Serena.

Our FindingsKey Insights Gathered from Ms See

• Bigger speakers are not necessarily advanced, whereas small and sophisticated speakers can be advance.

• Good and has the features that most portable speakers nowadays in the market have.

• Some suggestions for the improvements of physical features: Material shock resistance, durable, knock proof impact, not affected by motion, colours available, rounding the edges of the cube.

• Depends on the quality, not the size or the compactness.

Page 18: E&T Project Journey Riley Truman Xing Jian Audrey Serena.

Our FindingsKey Insights Gathered from Leon

• Good for it to have the Bluetooth functions and being durable.

• Suggests customisable designs.• If our portable speaker is made of good materials, it can

be as good as larger portable speakers out there in the market; provided the quality is also same.

Vacation-User feedback & Interviewabout the experience

What went well? • Interviewees answered promptly and gave beneficial feedback, like

how can the functions can be improved further, etc.

What could have been done better? • In the future, our next set of questions will be constructed of well-

ordered and coherent questions.

What will you do differently next time? • We will indeed implement and do our best to empathize with more of

the general potential users.

Was it a useful exercise?• Yes, it indeed was an eye-opener to the real world when it comes to

interviewing and having to improvise if needed.

Vacation-User feedback & Interviewabout the feedback

What are the positive feedback? • Many praised our original concept due to it’s originality and simplicity.• Selling point of it in which is affordable and yet promises high quality

components• The key factor in creating this involves generating a perfect product from

constructive feedback from all kinds of users.

What are the negative feedback? • It may not be as outstanding as how we carry it forward.• Some may not find it futile.• Concept 1 being shaped as a cube will be uncomfortable if placed in

pockets; even though it has the round edges, but it will definitely feel bulky.
