Happy Fall to everyone and welcome to our new law clerks
who we had the pleasure of meeting at our Opening Day of
the Courts ceremony at Terrigno’s Fairfield Inn on
September 3, 2019. We honored our deceased members
and announced the selection of Robert J. Pryor as the
recipient of Cumberland County’s 2019 Professional
Lawyer of the Year Award.
I am happy to report that our foundation awarded two
scholarships this year, $750 to Kaitlyn Sibley and $750 to
Liliya Bondarenko. In addition, the foundation made a
$1,000 donation to the Bridgeton Public Library in memory
of Samuel Serata. The money will be put toward the
purchase of a new AWE Early Literacy Station.
We had a really fun event at Wheaton Arts on Thursday,
September 26th. It was a glass fusing class which involved
cutting pieces of decorative glass and layering them on top
of clear glass to be fused together at a high temperature. I
think the general consensus of all those in attendance is
that “it is really hard to cut glass”. Wheaton Arts did a
wonderful job setting up this event for us and we all had a
great time.
In closing, I want to inform everyone that Judge Telsey has
arranged for Steve Goodell to be our guest speaker at the
new attorney swearing in, which will occur sometime in ear-
ly December. Mr. Goodell has a very inspirational story and
we want to support our new attorneys so please attend if
possible. We will announce the actual date as soon as it is
determined.

At the Opening of the Courts ceremony on Tuesday, September 3, 2019, Bar Association President Deana L. Walsh announced the selection of Robert J. Pryor to receive the Cumberland County Professional Lawyer of the Year award from the New Jersey Commission on Professionalism in the Law.
Bob grew up in Union County but moved here after being hired by Judge Kleiner to be a law clerk. Bob served Judge Kleiner, Judge Forester and Judge Serata.
Bob attended Rutgers University while simultaneously working, full time, as a technician in the Research and Development Laboratories of the United States Steel Company. He received his B.A. in History from Rutgers in 1978. He then attended Rutgers Law School, graduating in 1982.
Bob relates to Et Seq. his recollection of meeting Rocco Tedesco on the first motion Friday of Bob’s clerkship. After learning that Bob was from Rahway, Rocco warned Bob that the aggressive style of practice in fashion in North Jersey would not fly in Cumberland County. Rocco explained that adversaries are human beings who have families to raise and businesses to run, while trying to find solutions to their clients’ problems. Rocco explained that colleagues extend professional courtesies and treat each other with mutual respect.
After completing his judicial clerkship in 1983, Bob first worked as an associate with Capizola and Fineman in Vineland. Next, Bob went inhouse with Selective Insurance Company, defending workers’ compensation claims.
In 1989, Bob returned to Cumberland County and became a partner at the Ritter, Hanford and Pryor firm.
Bob hung out his own shingle in August 1996, and has been a solo practitioner for the last 23 years.
He has served as the solicitor to the Bridgeton Housing Authority for 22 years. He is also solicitor to the Planning Boards of Hopewell Township and Stow Creek Township, respectively.
Bob’s private practice concentrates in Wills, Estates, Guardianships, Real Estate, Land Use and Small Business Practice.
Bob was formerly an active member of the Bridgeton Breakfast Rotary Club.
Bob is married to Cindy Aldrich Pryor, who spent her own career working at the Court House in the Cumberland County Special Civil Part Clerk’s Office.
One of Bob’s hobbies is collecting guitars.
Bob values the relationship he has with his fellow attorneys, their staffs, the judges and courthouse personnel. He says that it is a privilege to be a part of the Cumberland County legal community.
Congratulations, Bob!

This Project was started in 2006 and has resulted in over 150 favorable decisions for children in New Jersey and their families. Attorneys willing to review cases for advice only are also welcome.
The benefits of taking a case for pro bono representation include malpractice insurance provided by SJLS for the duration of the case, time towards satisfaction of your annual Madden requirement, confidence that your time and efforts go to a deserving, low-income client and the knowledge that you have made a difference in the life of an indigent New Jersey resident.

RE: MOTION AND BRIEF FILINGS
The Criminal Division has been experiencing significant delays in the filing of motions and briefs in all three
counties. This has created a delay in resolution or trial of cases.
Please remember that the court rules governing the filing of motions provide as follows:
R. 3:9-1 (b) (3) Unless otherwise instructed by the court, at the arraignment counsel shall advise the court of
their intention to make motions pursuant to R. 3:10-2(a).
R. 3:10-2 (a) Absent good cause, all motions shall be filed with the court and be accompanied by a brief by the
scheduled Initial Case Disposition Conference. If, however, the party opposing the motion bears
the burden of proof, the time for submitting the brief is at the discretion of the court.
The judges realize that everyone has a significant caseload, and they have been are generous in finding good
cause to allow motions to be filed after the Initial Case Disposition Conference. However, the failure to file mo-
tions in a timely fashion is becoming the norm. Therefore, all criminal practitioners should renew efforts to file
motions in accordance with the court rules.
Thank you for your attention to this issue.
