What is Podcasting?

• Podcasting is defined as an audio broadcast that allows listeners to hear the file whenever they want.

• A podcast is a digital audio file that can be uploaded to the Internet then downloaded and shared on a computer, I-Pod, or MP3 player.

• A podcast may be downloaded with

the help of Apple’s iTunes

What Can I Podcast?

• Student Conferences• Student Presentations (i.e. poetry)• Guest Speakers• Readers’ Theatre• About the Author• Class Notes• Test or Quiz Reviews• Seminars• Staff Meetings• Mathematical Procedures• ANY RELEVANT INFORMATION!

How Do I Record?Here are two methods:

1. Record directly onto computer with plug-in microphone (as we will do here).

2. Record onto digital voice recorder and transfer or upload file.

How to choose an “aggregator”

• An aggregator allows you to upload your audio file to the Internet

• Here are some choices:– www.podomatic.com– www.gcast.com– Your school or district website

Recording Software?

• Audacity (http://audacity.sourceforge.net/)

(free) &

• Apple’s Garageband (http://www.apple.com/ilife/garageband/)

(works only on a Mac)

Recording a Podcast using Audacity

Recording Tracks:1. Record 3 tracks:i) oral introductory trackii) theme music trackiii) event track2. Transfer all 3 tracks into Audacity and convert into an MP3 file

3. Mixing Tracks:1. import all 3 raw MP3 audio files into Audacity and with each file do the following:i) split tracksii) delete one track iii) label the remaining track "mono" channel4. Open a new Audacity file 5. Hit 3rd magnifying glass from the left6. Copy and paste each track into the appropriate part of track7. Save file8. Export as mp3 to a folder on your computer9. Upload to Podomatic

Rewind and listen to your recording by pressing the purple rewind key and green play key

Record your voice by clicking the red record button and speaking into the microphone

When you are finished recording press the yellow stop button
