The Center has hosted events on the implicaLons of the Climate Changesummit, inwhichtheFrenchconsulargeneralparLcipated.TheCenterhas foundthatcollaboraLngwithothersinthisregardhasworkedwell.Theyhaveworkedwithothercenters,relevantgroupsinAtlanta, and the World Affairs Council. Recent goals for the Center have included improveddisseminaLonthroughthewebsiteandsocialmedia,publishingpapersmoregenerallyaswellastheseriesdealingwithtriangulardiplomacy.Asofrightnow,alllectureshavebeenpostedtothewebsite.

Throughthese collaboraLons, there have beeninternaLonal conferences on Lisbon Treaty.In 2015 Deborah Reed-Danahay wanted toformanetworkoncirculaLonandEuropeanIdenLtyandstartedawholenewcurriculumin university. At SUNY Buffalo, everyfreshman must take a freshman seminar,and Deborah Reed-Danahay has developedan EU-centered one which uses digicaLonfor e-poreolios and does projects on

UC Berkeley houses the InsLtute of EU studies, which itself houses nineinsLtutes including the Jean Monnet Center of Excellence. The Jean Monnet Center’s focus is onpioneeringresearchofglobalEUchallengesandharnessingBerkeley’sknowledgeofEU.Thisentailsathree-pronged approachof educaLon, global trade and investment, and EUmanagement of globalchallenges.TheCenterworkstopreventEUstudiesfrombecomingoverlyspecializedbybringingindifferentdepartments.TheinsLtuLoniscurrentlyworkingonanewlycreatedemphasisontheEUindoctoral studies. Furthermore, EU Studies scholars at Berkeley are now making use of theconstrucLonofwordcloudsortagcloudsbyfindingthemostfrequentlyusedwordstocharacterizeanddescribecrisesindifferentmemberstates.OtherareasofresearchincludereconcilingTTIPandotherFreeTradeAgreements,comparingTurkeytoEUforbestpracLcesinmigraLon,andwhetherEUinsLtuLonslearnfromthepastorhaveashort-termapproach.OtheracLviLesincludeaconferenceon a be\er way forward for Ukraine, a conference on African athletes and EU migraLon, and anundergraduateresearchconferenceatClaremont’sScrippsCollege.DuringthisparLcularconference,thetoptenpapersarepublishedinajournalandsomeofthetopparLcipantsreceiveastudytourtoBrussels.

The transiLon to Denverincludedanewwebsite,anew logo,newpartnerships in thecommunity,andhasprovidedseveralopportuniLestocohostorganizaLonswhoare internaLonally-minded,suchasWorldDenver,WorldAffairsCouncil,etc.TheCenterisstarLngtoworkwiththeUniversityClubandmembersareverykeentolearnaboutEurope.TheMountainWestpartnershipconLnueswithWyoming,ArizonaState,andNewMexico.TheCenteralsohasconnecLonswiththeboardoftheWorldTradeCenterandWorldDenver,aswellastheOfficeofEconomicDevelopment.ThenewCenterhasreachedoutandbuiltarelaLonshipwith theUniversity’s EUAffairs student forum.A large amountof success in a\racLngand retainingspeakers isachievedbybuildinga speakeragenda throughoutDenver so thatvisiLngspeakersarenotjustattheUniversity.OnepartnershipincludedagroupcalledInspiringMindswherelocal civic-mindedyoungmothershavemeeLngswhile their kidsare in school. This group recentlyhad a collaboraLon with the Center on the challenges and concerns of the Syrian refugee crisis.Another notable partnership is the Air Force Academy, which resulted in a conference oncybersecurityheldattheUniversityClub.Recenteventshaveincludedarenewableenergysummit,apartnershipwithOfficeofEconomicDevelopmentandInternaLonalTradetohostadelegaLonfromSpain,andsharingtalentwithintheJeanMonnetcommunitybyhosLngJeanMonnetChairMiladaVachudovafromtheUniversityofNorthCarolina.

The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign was represented at the meeLng by MaximeLarive,SebnemOzkan,andNeilVanderMost.UniversityofIllinoishasaEuropeanUnionCenterwitha Title VI grant as well as JeanMonnet Center of Excellence and GeQng to Know Europe grants.Current focus areas include strengtheningTransatlanLc trust, TTIP, economics andfinance, and themovementofpeoplethroughmigraLon.TheCenterhastheirownMaster’sinEUstudies,whichwasoneofthefirstinthecountry.WhiletheCenterdoesnothavespecificEUfaculty,thereareover120affiliated faculty. There is an execuLve commi\ee to help with implementaLon of the Center andGraduate Assistants funded through the Title VI grant. AllysonDelnoreandSteve Lund representedthe University of Pi\sburgh at the meeLng.The European Studies Center at theUniversity of Pi\sburgh is home to thePi\sburghPapersontheEuropeanUnion,aswellasthepopularConversaLonsonEurope(CoE). CoE is a series of policy-orientedvideoconferences on different wickedproblems,suchastherecentoneonclimatec h a n ge a n d s u s t a i n a b i l i t y. T h e s evideoconferences bring in experts, streamthem for people to a\end the sessionremotely, record the talks, and add them toYouTube. The Center is currentlyworking toredesign a course in the EU cerLficateprogramandhasnearlyreceivedapprovalfor
anewcerLficateinTransatlanLcStudies.Theyareworkingtocreatestudyguidesatthecollegelevel,fromwhichstudentscouldanswerquesLonsforextracredit.ThesecanbeapplicabletoK-12students(specifically 9-12).
