Eudlo State School FULLY RESOURCED SCHOOL IN A BEAUTIFUL BUSHLAND SETTING
With
NEWS FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear All,
The start of any new school year is never slow for anyone in
the school community and 2020 is no different. However, we
are very pleased with the smooth beginning that we have had
at Eudlo and are very excited about the year ahead.
This week and last, we had our Meet the Teacher mornings or
afternoons where you had the opportunity to meet with your
child’s/children’s teacher. We do this early in the year to set
up the very important first line of communication. The link
between home and school is vital in the ensuring the success
of your child’s experience at school. We encourage you to
keep in contact with us about your child’s education and use
the communications channels open to you.
We currently employ a range of communication strategies including:
Our fortnightly school newsletter distributed via email. Parents who wish to receive it in paper format we have copied available from the school office.
School website
School Facebook page (look for Eudlo State School to follow us)
And the more traditional methods of phone calls and face to face.
Remember you are also encouraged to contact your child’s class teacher directly in the first instance. If you need to spend an extended time discussing your child, remember to make an appointment so that the teacher or myself, as principal, can ensure adequate time is available for you. For matters that are urgent, please call the school rather than send an email, as our teachers are engaged with our students during the course of the day as our first and most important priority and not checking emails.
School Leader Investiture
Wednesday afternoon, our new school leaders will be presented with their badges. We have 7 students who will be proudly wearing badges for a variety of roles including school captain, vice-captain, and sports leaders.
It will be our first big event for our leaders in 2020, so please join us at school in the B block classroom for their induction. Listening to them taking their pledge is very powerful as they will promise to make the most of all the opportunities presented to them and they understand that they and all our year five and six students share the important role of guiding, caring and supporting our younger students.
Reading
Did you know that reading one extra book to your young child each day can have a hug impact on their language development? That's because just one daily book can expose them to an extra 78 000 words every year. It's ok if books are repeated.
Set up a reading routine with your child and an easy goal like reading one book per day together is a great place to start.
Attendance is important – every day counts!
* Illness
* Doing work experience
*Competing in school sporting events.
* If your child is going to be absent from school, you must let the school know why the absence has occurred prior to or on the same day.
All Queensland schools, now have mandated same day reporting, so if your child is absent and we have not heard from you, you will receive a follow up phone call (SMS) on the day of absence. Please respond to these.
NEWS FROM THE PRINCIPAL
With the beginning of the school year, it is often a great time to set
some goals in place with your children around attendance,
especially if you have had a number of absences throughout
2019. Obviously if students are not well they will stay away from
school but apart from being sick students should be attending
Eudlo every day.
Parents and caregivers must send children to school every school
day under Queensland law unless there is an acceptable reason
such as:
Avoid keeping your child away from school for reasons such as:
Birthdays
Shopping
Visiting family and friends
If they sleep in
Looking after other children
Minor check-ups or care, such as haircuts.
Routine medical or other health appointments should be made either before or after school or during the school holidays.
Establishing good routines around school can assist with regular school attendance. These include:
Have a set time to go to bed
Have a set time to get out of bed
Have uniform and school bag ready the night before
Have a set time for starting and finishing breakfast
Set a time for daily homework activities
Speak about school positively
Send your child to school every day including their birthday and he last day of term, from Prep onwards
More information on the importance of regular school attendance is available at http://education.qld.gov.au/everydaycounts/index.html
If you experience difficulty in sending your child to school, contact your teacher for support. We can work together to ensure that your child is engaged in school and is on the way to being a happy, healthy and confident 21st century learner. Attendance of 95% or above is critical and part of our department’s goal for all learners Students who have patterns of absence, even explained, will be followed up through formal Department of Education processes.
An important message to our families
With our downpours this week, and the flooding of some local
roads it is timely to remind all parents/carers that at Eudlo State
School we will to look after your children should events occur
during the school day or at pick up time that may disrupt
travel. It is our sincere wish to avoid anybody putting themselves
at risk to return home or get to the school/pickup point when it
would be safer for people to shelter in place out of the weather,
not attempt to cross flooded roads, ‘If its Flooded, Forget It’.
Up to date information regarding weather conditions is available
