Aim of DISH-RI
DISH-RI aims to be
an overarching, virtual, integrated, open
access research environment
to collate, validate, harmonise and
connect existing and future research data.

DISH-RI
Connect the different
disciplines in the food and
health domain with a cross-
cutting multidisciplinary
approach enabling
• research by integrating
study DATA,
• interoperability and
innovation of TOOLS
• offering SERVICES to the
food and health research
and stakeholder
community.

Data, tools, and services
• Data generation, storage, management, harmonisation, access, analysis
and interpretation, e.g., pan-EU food surveillance; pan-EU nutrition health
cohorts and interventions; data on food quality, food safety, sustainability.
• Tools: The development, utility, innovation, standardisation and evaluation
of innovative technologies for assessment of lifestyle, diet, and
biomarkers.
• Services to the research community and stakeholders relevant to
integration of data and knowledge. Such as building of a research
community that enables a systems approach; attracting young
researchers, education and capacity building; eTraining; platform for
industry, research, and policy; widening participation of European
countries and global partners.

• Input of fragmented data
• Added value by central hub
• Integrated data for stakeholders
• Scientific community: research,
innovation, education
• Governance: ICT-backbone,
central entry point, serves
science and stakeholders
Fragmented disciplinary and
stakeholder data from public
and private sources
Integrated
summary data
and analyses
for different
stakeholders

DISH-RI
• ICT backbone supporting the
interoperability of
standardisation and quality
management of data and tools.
• Central entry point to provide
services to researchers,
stakeholders, and related RIs.
• Governance structure that (a)
provides conditions for access
such as membership,
ownership, privacy, and trust,
(b) organises centralised and
distributed activities, and (c)
enables flexibility regarding
innovation within the RI.

“Hub, spokes and nodes”-model
Structure:
• Coordinating hub
• National nodes
• Public, private, and
research
• Associated
partners
Service:
• Sharing expertise
via hub

Back to the societal challenges
• Connects agri-food and health sector.
• Enables cutting-edge research
• interdisciplinary,
• multi-actor,
• biology & behaviour,
• beta-gamma-alpha,
• Innovation.
• Advances data analysis, knowledge
synthesis and food and health
systems approach.
• Serves interests of stakeholders in
knowledge triangle.
