STUDY PROGRAMMEThe ESP offers a challenging and high-qualityaccelerated three-year programme leading to abachelor’s degree. ESP is a programme forselected and ambitious students, who are highlymotivated and willing to work hard. Theprogramme has been awarded the status Honoursby the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences.ESP has also been accorded the status of SmallScale and Intensive Education by the AccreditationOrganisation of the Netherlands and Flanders.

You are taught a mix of theoretical subjects andpractical skills. Examples of courses are Anatomy,Pathology, Physiotherapy Interventions andConcepts of Clinical Reasoning. You learn to thinkcritically and to reflect, and are also taught toapply a structured method of clinical reasoning,an essential part of being a physiotherapist.Another distinctive feature of the ESP programmeis its clear focus on Evidence Based Practice andinnovation.

To get the best practical experience, theprogramme includes four internships which lastfor more than 10 months in total. At least twointernships should be completed abroad in at leasttwo different countries.

You will have a personal study advisor supervisingyour academic work and personal developmentthroughout your study period. We aim to create avery safe and social study environment for all ourinternational staff and students.

CAREER POSSIBILITIESPhysiotherapists are employed in hospitals, privatepractices, rehabilitation centres, nursing homes,health centres, and sports teams or associations.Physiotherapists who have been trained in theNetherlands can work in many different places inthe world. However, in some countries additionalqualifications may be required.

STUDY LOAD► 48 weeks of courses or internships.► 53 hours of study a week, with about 24

contact hours (lectures and practicals).► Other hours are spent on preparation,

self-study and research projects.► In the first year, 50 of the 60 available credits is

the minimum requirement in order to continueyour studies (BSA criterion).

LIMITED PLACESESP is a very popular programme: there are alwaysmore applicants than places available. So if youare interested, we would advise you to start earlywith your enrolment process. We operate adecentralised selection procedure, which meansthat, after you have applied, you will be invited fora selection day.

SELECTION DAYThe day consists of some mini-interviews, a knowledge test and a psychological test.Based on your score, you will be ranked andthe best 80 students will be selected to start the programme.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTSAll students need at least:1. A prior education, with (international)equivalent of Dutch vwo diploma.2. English language proficiency,
