EUROPEAN STANDARDS AND LEGISLATIVE REGULATIONS
CONCERNING ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION IN COMPARISON TO
THE LAW EXISTING IN POLAND
All of the polish legal acts concerning environmental
protection are based on and are strictly connected to european
directives.
WATER CONSERVATION
UE: reducing the discharge of heavy metals, detergents, pesticides into the
water
POLAND: Requirements in this regard have been implemented to
the Polish Law.
URBAN WASTE WATER TREATMENT
UE: building sewer systems and wastewater treatment plants
- monitoring the discharge of treated wastewater and water quality in reservoirs where wastewater
is kept.
POLAND: In Poland, the requirements of the Directive have been estabilished. Last time
limit for the construction of sewerage systems falls on 31.12.2015.31.12.2015.
RESIDUES
waste oils are not to be placed in the environment
- total ban on discarding waste that are flammable, explosive, corrosive, oxidizing, used tires, liquid waste or
hospital waste
POLAND: Detailed regulations have been released, but there might be some difficulties in implementation
them into a real life (ex. Due to technological underdevelopment of
Poland in relation to the EU).
AIR PROTECTION
UE: - restriction of the concentration of SO2, the lead and nitrogen dioxide, carbon monoxide and benzene in the atmosphere
- the requirements for acceptable levels of emissions of pollutants into the air from
large combustion plants
POLAND: Polish law does not have strict requirements for emissions of pollutants
into the air from large combustion installation
- Time for the implementation of the requirements relating to other legislative
acts has been extended to 2022
GMO – GENETICALLY MODIFIED ORGANISMS
UE: In the European Law the following issues have been settled:
*the release of genetically modified organisms into the environment
*genetically modified food and fodder
*shipments of genetically modified organisms
POLAND: The legislative acts were developed based on the relevant EU
directives.
