EUROTRIP 2012
MUNICH, GERMANY [JUNE 4 – JUNE 7]
DAY
*Beer Bike (located in Marienplatz )
The most popular attraction in Munich is its beer garden culture – Munich is host to 450
beer gardens – which is why we decided to take the beer garden on the road. We have
put Munich's most beloved concept on wheels and are proud to introduce Munich’s
451st beer garden; Lenny’s Beer Bike.
*Marienplatz - Marien Square and the New Town Hall of Munich
Marienplatz is the central square in the heart of Munich; from here, you can explore
many old and wonderful buildings, churches and landmarks. Marienplatz houses the
Mariensäule, the Marian Column topped with the golden statue of Virgin Mary, and it is
also home to the Old and the New Town Hall of Munich. The tower of the New Town
Hall houses the Glockenspiel, a beautiful carillon that is over 100 years old. Come here
at 11 a.m. or noon to hear the Glockenspiel chime and watch the 32 life-sized figures
reenact historical Bavarian events. Look out for the golden bird that chirps 3 times to
mark the end of each show.
*The English GardenJust a few blocks northeast of the Munich Residence is the English Garden, Munich's
largest park. Bigger than Central Park in New York, this green oasis is a wonderful
place to explore: Rent a paddle boat, stroll along the wooded paths, visit one of its
traditional beer gardens, and watch the German answer to surfing on the currents of the
waterway called Eisbach.
Deutsches Museum - German Museum
The German Museum is located on an island in the river Isar that runs through Munich's
city center. It is one of the oldest and largest science and technology museums in the
world and boasts an impressive collection of historic artifacts.
You can see the first electric dynamo, the first automobile, and the laboratory bench
where the atom was first split. Other highlights of the museum include exhibitions on
astronomy, transportation, mining, printing, and photography.

Saint Peter’s Church
St. Peter's Church is a Roman Catholic church in the inner city of Munich, southern
Germany. It is also the oldest church in the district. Before the foundation of Munich as
a city in 1158, there had been a pre-Merovingian church on this site. 8th century monks
lived around this church on a hill called Petersbergl. At the end of the 12th century a
new church in the Bavarian Romanesque style was consecrated, and expanded in
Gothic style shortly before the great fire in 1327, which destroyed the building. After its
reconstruction the church was dedicated anew in 1368. In the early 17th century the 92
meter spire received its Renaissance steeple top and a new Baroque choir was added.
*BMW Museum
The BMW Museum is located near the Olympiapark in Munich and was established in
1972 shortly before the Summer Olympics opened. It deals with the history of the
automobile manufacturer BMW. In connection with the construction of the BMW Welt,
directly opposite the museum, it was renovated from 2004 to 2008. The museum
reopened on June 21, 2008.
Asam's Church (Asamkirche)

the citizens, the brothers were forced to make the church accessible to the public.
Old Pinakothek (Alte Pinakothek)

the time period covered by the art — the Neue Pinakothek covers 19th century art and
the recently opened Pinakothek der Moderne exhibits modern art, all galleries are partof Munich's "Kunstareal" (the "art area"). The museum is part of the Bavarian State
Picture Collection (German: Bayerische Staatsgemäldesammlungen), an organization
of the Free state of Bavaria.

NIGHT
*Hofbräuhaus Restaurant
No trip to Munich is complete without a visit to the most famous beer hall in the world,
the Hofbräuhaus. The Hofbräuhaus brewery was built in 1589, and in the surface of the
long wooden tables, you can spot names, comments, and dates that were engraved
more than 100 years ago. The Hofbräuhaus, located close to central Marienplatz,
serves hearty, regional specialties such as veal sausage, pork roast, and brewer
goulash, the Beer is served in 1-liter steins, and Bavarian bands play the signature
Oompah-beat daily.
*Kultfabrik
This huge complex of clubs, bars and eateries is a veritable Disneyland for clubbers,
and it has a little something for everyone. Take S-Bahn 1-8 or U-Bahn U5 to
Ostbahnhof and exit at the rear to reach the venues at (J-4) Grafingerstraße 6. There is
plenty of parking space available on-site. For more information visit www.kultfabrik.info

when Kultfabrik grills up 12,000 steaks and 5,000 turkey sausages to feed a hungry,
dancing crowd all night long (food and admission to all clubs €10). There will be specialappearances by Munich’s American football team and their hot cheerleaders.
PRAGUE, CZECH REPUBLIC
DAY

*Old Town (Stare Mesto)
Old Town (Czech: Staré Město) is a medieval settlement of Prague, Czech Republic. It
was separated from the outside by a semi-circular moat and wall, connected to the
Vltava at both of its ends. The moat is now covered up by the streets (from north to
south-west) Revolučni, Na Př íkopě, and Národni—which remain the official boundary of
the cadastral district of Old Town. It is now in Praha 1. Soon after the city was
expanded in the 14th century by Charles IV with the founding of the New Town, the
moat and wall were dismantled. Notable places in the Old Town include the Old New
Synagogue, Old Town Square and Astronomical Clock. Across the river Vltava is the
Lesser Quarter, called Malá Strana in Czech. These two parts of the town are
connected by Charles Bridge. Josefov is located in the northwest corner of Old Town
heading towards the Vltava.
Lobkowicz Palace
A wing of the Prague Castle, the palace includes Mozart and Beethoven compositions
and Pieter Bruegel the Elder's Haymaking painting. There are also concerts in a
frescoed hall.
*Prague Castle
Prague Castle (Czech: Pražský hrad) is a castle in Prague where the Kings of Bohemia,
Holy Roman Emperors and presidents of Czechoslovakia and the Czech Republic have
had their offices. The Czech Crown Jewels are kept here. Prague Castle is the biggest
castle in the world (according to Guinness Book of Records the biggest ancient castle)

NIGHT
*Prague Pub Crawl (4 bars then ends at Karlovy Lazne Club)
After the unlimited drinking time at the Pub Crawl Bar we will visit 3 more local bars (if
you start at 8:00 PM) who are happy to welcome you with free entry, a free welcome
shot, drink specials, & VIP access to private rooms! We will spend an hour at each bar
so you have time to meet new friends & dance! Afterwards the pub crawl continues to
its final destination, Karlovy Lazne, the 5 Story mega club, located next to Charles’
Bridge. It’s the biggest club in Central Europe and has different styles of music on each
floor! All crawlers have free VIP entry to the club, meaning we skip their waiting line! All
that party in one night for only 490,-kc or 20 € and it also includes an original Prague
Pub Crawl t-shirt!
*Karlovy Lazne Club
Karlovy Lazne is the largest music club complex in Central Europe, and one of the
coolest places in Prague to hang out. One entrance fee gets you a ticket to 5 clubs on
5 levels. Each floor at Karlovy Lazne has its own style, from disco to hardcore trance;
enough variation to keep even the most ardent clubber entertained all night. Starting at
the ground floor going up you get: Music Café, Discothèque (70s disco revival),
Kaleidoscope (hits of the 60s-80s), Paradogs Club (the best in house, trance and
techno), and Chill Out (mellow tunes on the top floor in a café style, with floor cushions,
rugs and soft lighting - do the other 4 levels properly, and you are bound to end up
here!). The interior of Karlovy Lazne dates from the 14th/15th centuries. Original
mosaic tiles adorn the walls and floors in some areas, while preserved Roman style spa
pools (minus the water) serve as two of the pumping dance floors. Karlovy Lazne
Dance Club really gets going after 10pm at weekends, so to avoid lengthy queues get
there early.
Bombay Bar & Club
Bombay Bar is a lively music bar, just a short walk from the Old Town Square alongpopular Dlouha street. Bombay Bar is a fairly large venue with a good party
atmosphere. It attracts a large international crowd, and at weekends this can make it
one of the busiest bars in Prague. You won’t have trouble getting to the bar though, as
it stretches right along one side of the room. Bar tenders expertly prepare delicious
cocktails, some of the best in town. Of particular note are the Rum Runners and the
Margaritas. Bombay Bar also stocks a range of beers and wines from around the world.
8/2/2019 Eurotrip 2012 Notes
http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/eurotrip-2012-notes 6/13
The decor is appealing, with plenty of exposed brickwork, high ceilings and archways
separating the various areas. There is also a dance floor for when the mood takes you,
and it may well do! Bombay Bar has a strict policy of no stag parties, but if that means
you, enter in small numbers, or ideally find some women to accompany you, and you
should be OK.
Double Trouble Bar
Double Trouble Bar & Club is one of Prague's most popular cellar bars (and there are a
lot of them!). Located between Wenceslas Square and the Old Town Square, you need
to look hard to find it, as a very shabby entrance masks the large Gothic cellars below. It
is worth seeking out though. Drinks are reasonably priced and the atmosphere gently
builds throughout the evening, until around midnight when the dancing begins. People
dance on chairs, they dance on tables, and even on the bar. In fact, that's the norm!
Double Trouble is an all round venue, so if you're a big club man, forget it. But if you
enjoy a small party atmosphere in historic settings, this is the place. DJ's play Monday
to Saturday.
Roxy Club
Roxy is a popular dance club on Dlouha street, close to the Old Town Square. Roxy is
one of Prague’s oldest and best-known clubs, and over the years has attracted big
name DJ's such as Grooverider and Luke Slater to take their turn on the decks, as well
as bands like Faithless and the Sneaker Pimps. The music at Roxy spans all genres of
dance, but tends to be more hardcore than at many of the clubs in Prague. Drum ‘n’
Bass, Jungle and Techno often feature here. The slightly dilapidated interior and big
open spaces gives Roxy more of a warehouse feel than a modern club, the rawness of
it fitting the music style. It is a very popular place with locals, but there is also a big
young international presence. Presumably because there are a couple of hostels
nearby. The dance floor is large, and there is cool lighting and video projections. Drinks
are cheap as well.
BARCELONA, SPAIN

mediaeval buildings.

The Gothic Quarter (Catalan: Barri Gòtic, IPA: [ˈbari ˈɣɔtik]) is the centre of the old city
of Barcelona. It stretches from La Rambla to Via Laietana, and from the Mediterranean
seafront to Ronda de Sant Pere. Despite several changes undergone in the 19th and
early 20th century, many of the buildings date from Medieval times, some from as far
back as the Roman settlement of Barcelona. Remains of the squared Roman Wall can
be seen around Tapineria and Sots-Tinent Navarro to the north, Avinguda de la
Catedral and Plaça Nova to the west and Carrer de la Palla to the south. El Call, the
medieval Jewish quarter, is located within this area too. The Barri Gòtic retains a
