When I studied at the Prague Academy of Fine Arts, my Professor used to discuss our projects with us long into the night. I remember that he smoked an awful lot, so it became impossible to breathe in the room, and he would always ask about detail of my project - how it would be made, how it would work why I had chosen a particular design... and he was able to deliberate, until midnight even about such seemingly unimportant matters as how to attach the door handle to the door. Once, out of sheer fatigue, I protested " But sir, this isn't architecture!" And he looked at me and said " Alright young lady, next we meet, you bring me a list of three things which do not concern architecture." Well, I'm still looking for those three things...

This building is nominated for the Inside Awards. Eva Jiricna is also one of the judges…A multi-purpose auditorium at the centre of the oval-shaped building provides a venue for concerts, theatre, orchestra, conferences and exhibitions. Covered in metallic mesh, the triangular roof structures conceal smoke outlets, air conditioning and other service vents that would otherwise be visible from above whilst providing support for the external walls

Time Products established their operation on the entire 6 floors of a grade 2 listed building, each floor designated for a different use. The need for sensitive integration of new elements into the existing fabric led to the concept of separating the new interventions from their surroundings both physically and visually; thus the ‘historic memory’ of the internal space could be retained alongside highly controlled contemporary insertions. Completed 1999

LEISURE LEISURE BUILDINGSBUILDINGS

The hotel is situated in the middle of the Old Town in Prague, a short distance from the Old Town square. A small urban space formed by a "T" junction of the three streets is dominated by a 19th century building with a typical pitched roof, forming a ridge defining the busy skyline with its ornate monumental language. After careful studies of the urban conditions, planning consent was granted for an eight storey building which continues the frontage of the adjacent building and forms a gentle transition to the shapes of the roofs on either side.

EXHIBITIONEXHIBITIONSSEJAL won the competition organized by the V+A to design the new Gallery that would house 3,500 pieces of Jewellery from the Museum’s exquisite collection.

The concept of the new Gallery comprises of a two level arrangement. The upper level is situated in the middle of the space and it is connected to the lower level via a circular glass staircase. The internal envelope is designed as a continuous ‘tube’ inserted freely into the fabric of the existing building envelope. The zone between the two elements - the internal skin and the masonry – is used to accommodate all the services and built-in display cabinets. The jewellery is exhibited in a continuous chronological display.

BRIDGEBRIDGESS

The London Dockland Development Committee identified the need for a pedestrian footbridge to link the Docklands Light Railway with new residential areas. The bridge was developed to respond to the microclimatic conditions of the site. Consideration had to be given to the aerodynamic effect of the bridge itself so that the airflow underneath the structure didn't create an undesirable impact on passing river traffic. The open " cage " construction would consist of a stainless steel net constructed from cast nodes and tubular members with an insert of perforated panels to alleviate wind pressure. The horizontal deck/roof was designed as translucent glass whilst all vertical elements were to be manufactured from expanded metal. The walkway was proposed as semi-translucent glass bricks which would also be illuminated at night.

BRIDGEBRIDGESS

This proposal was a competition entry for a new footbridge linking the Holesovice area of Prague with Stvanice island and onto the Karlin bank. It included a series of light structural elements. The towers, resembling closed flower buds, provide a load bearing system for the pedestrian ramp spanning the river whilst making the bridge effortlessly light.

PIPELINESPIPELINES

In recent years, city life has taken on something of a different nature to the past. As opposed to family living, there is a huge demand for small apartments, to be used either as pied-a-terres or serviced flats for mainly single occupants or childless couples who would normally be spending most of their time outside of their domicile. The building for which a selection of individual units is proposed is of a circular plan with 360 degree vision on a sire close to Tower Bridge and the river Thames, divided into a large amount of small units. The guide line for the design is for luxury fitted mini apartments with as much open space as permissible.
