POSTER MAGAZINE FILM

I choose to keep the title the same throughout my ancillary tasks right through to my film as I thought the meaning of the word was powerful due to the complex meaning contrasting against the short simplistic word. It also suites the narrative of my film as the meaning of the word ‘Dereliction’ reveals the storyline and emotions that the characters have within the film. I feel the use of the similarities in all three of my combinations are effective as it sets a form of branding for my products. For example by using the same simplistic fonts each time and the same colour, reflects how relatable the products can be to audiences. For example the word dereliction represents the state of abandonment, and the shameful failure to fulfill an obligation. I felt this was an appropriate word to use for the title of my film; also I liked the idea of having a single simplistic word to describe the whole of my narrative, this reflects the surrealism genre as audiences aren’t supposed to get certain aspects of the film due to the genre be surrealism, which ultimately reflects how the narrative can be summed up by one word, and watching it conveys the genre. The differences between my titles are the backgrounds behind my title. The font has stayed the same throughout as it reflects a simple, straight font as I didn’t want it to be too complicated, so it would be a neater look. The font itself isn’t that bold, which fits well with our narrative as our protagonist gets lost within herself as the guilt of the incident of abduction fills her mind. The backgrounds behind each title has changed very slightly. I changed the second background to the forests, to create a mystical and spiritual effect, which I feel helps to draw in the audience. The forests can have connotations of spiritual and mystical elements, which reflect the genre of surrealism and this draws in the audience. I then had the title appear on the log that at the start of the film, when Lizzie as a child with her sister. This was a good place to add my title, as it is a key part of my film that the narrative focuses around.

POSTER MAGAZINE FILM

Throughout my different tasks I have kept Lizzie a main focus, as she is the protagonist. This is significant as she carries the narrative. It is also conventional to have the main character on the front of the poster, magazine article, as this is seen in many films such as ‘Alice in Wonderland’ where the protagonists is on the front of the magazine article. This interests the audience as they see who is starring in the film. For example posters use different strengths in different aspects to grab their audiences. For example some posters have the director’s name in larger fonts than the actors as they are well known and audiences will want to watch the film due to having seen the certain director’s work before. Some posters have the actors names written in bolder writing or a large image of them is presented, as audiences can relate to them more, due to the fact of how well known they are. I decided to have a close up of her face on my poster instead of the other two characters as the story develops with her psychotic state, which is the main purpose for the poster as this reveals an element of the storyline by showing her withered face. Also this generically appeals to audiences more as majority of film posters have actors faces on them to enhance the narrative. I added a representation of my genre in my poster as I added hands to cover Lizzie’s face as if she has no control. This links well with my genre as surrealism is made up of unusual and abstract things, with characters not understanding what is happening, therefore by having hands come across her face it reflects how she has no power or control over what is happening to her. I made her face a different colour by spreading her make up over her face; this is to represent her guilt building up and as a result has made her go mad. I wanted her to look tired and different from the beginning of the film. This is used to get an audience reaction of interest, so they can see that something happens to the character on the poster. They don’t just see a normal looking girl, they see a tired and bruised character. Therefore this immediately adds interests from the audience. I made her hair slightly messy to add to the withered and tired look. I added the hands covering her face to add an element of surrealism to the poster, so it would demonstrate the genre of the film. When editing the image I added a blue tint to the hands to reflect a slight dark and cold aspect to the image. The small white colour added to the hands implicates an enigmatic feature to the image, which reflects the unusual and abstract dimension of the film. The faint numbers embedded on her arm replicate the idea of time; the numbers are all at an angle, which represent a disoriented impression, which ultimately intrigues the audience. I used Lizzie again in my magazine article in the foreground with Kara in the background, as she is more of a main focus. It also reflects how her younger self was in the past and she always has guilt hanging over her. I choose to have an image of Lizzie’s state of mind deteriorating as this specifically represents my surrealism genre.

POSTER MAGAZINE FILM

When creating all my tasks I made my layout similar throughout, as I had my protagonist center frame. This is to have my main character as a center focus. This is significant as she carries the narrative. It is also conventional to have the main character on the front of the poster. When doing my poster I had Lizzie in the center as I wanted a close up of her face so that she would stand out to the audience. When doing my magazine article I slightly changed my layout as I had Lizzie slightly to the right of the center to portray how the years have developed throughout the film with her in the foreground. In my film I specifically had the majority of my shots with lizzie in the center, especially when she demonstrates her psychotic state.
