What have you learnt from your audience feedback?

Survey Monkey

In order to gain the right amount of feedback we created a ‘Survey Monkey’, where we posted it with our video so people could analyse certain aspects of our short film.

In order to gain the right feedback, we created questions on the main codes and conventions within ‘Short Film’ and whether we fulfilled these conventions.

Codes & Conventions

From our audience feedback it was important that people commented on the codes and conventions within Short Film and whether they were clear or not. Our first question involved the development of our main character, Violet. The majority of the results showed that they thought that our main character was developed quite well, therefore being able to establish who the main character is. However there was someone who possibly didn’t understand who the main character was, and therefore maybe we needed to establish her a little bit more, as we have the presence of another character in our film.

Codes & Conventions

Our second question was whether or not the films conclusion matched what our audience thought would happen. All our feedback on our question showed that no one expected the sister to be dead. This is one of the important codes and conventions and from our feedback, we can see that we have done this well through our use of editing.

Codes & Conventions

From the audience feedback it is clear that for most people our catalyst was clear and easily understood. However it also shows that a few people were slightly unaware of what the catalyst was, and therefore we could of made our catalyst more obvious, to set off the next chain of events in our short film.

Codes & Conventions

Our circular narrative appeared to be the most unclear to our audience, as just under half agreed that the circular narrative was unclear. Although we do have a clear circular narrative, the use of old photos at the beginning and end, it may not be clear to our audience as they may not understand why they have been used at the beginning and end of our short film.

Camera Angles

Most of our audience agreed that the camera angles used in our short film were effective and there was a good range of angles within the film. This is important because with the effective use of camera angles throughout film, meant that we created the right atmosphere throughout. However, although a few agreed that they were not effective, does not necessarily mean we did not have a range of camera angles.

Non-diegetic Music

Throughout our short film we had 2 non-diegetic songs playing, this was to fit the atmosphere of the film. Our feedback shows that our music was mostly effective, with a more light hearted song playing throughout the beginning, then when the plot begins to change and more sinister song. This meant the audience were able to distinguish when the plot was changing.
