MUSIC MAGAZINE EVALUATIONQuestion 1

Page 2: Evaluation

TITLE NAME AND MASTHEAD DESIGN

I chose ‘The Drop’ as the title of my magazine as it is an integral part of the music genre I was focusing on.

My masthead is white on a black background as it stands out more than any other colour. It features a downwards arrow as this links with the name of the magazine and adds more personality to the cover and brand. This use of colours was inspired by magazines including NME and Ebony that use contrasting colours to stand out

MY IMAGES

The images of my main musician ‘The Messiah’ make him look powerful with the effects I have used and poses he is in. The medium/long shot I have used for the front cover is unconventional but I think goes well with the impression I am trying to give of him. The other pictures I have taken and used I have added effects to. I did this as it makes the style of my magazine more defined. The settings I have used have been the school hall, a music office and the shenfield common. They were the most suitable for the pictures I was hoping to get.

TITLE FONT AND STYLE

I used a pretty standard font, nothing too fancy as I wanted to keep my content clear to the audience. The colour of white on black also keeps it clear and easily visible. The font I have used was influenced by the magazines NME and Ebony also as they use very simple fonts effectively. The title is also in bold which sets it apart from the rest of the font. My font will appeal to my target audience as it is eye catching and this makes it effective

WRITTEN CONTENTThe written content I have used is quite formal as my magazine is quite serious and I wanted to give that impression. I introduced the main artist just as most magazines do and I just asked questions that I had seen a lot in other magazines that were to do with the artists career and such.

GENRE CONVENTIONS

The music genre I have chosen is electronic.

This is stated on the front of the magazine in my magazine motto

I have used dark colours with contrasting brighter which corresponds with the conventions of other electronic magazines.

This choice is backed up with the picture of just one man on the front as this is how electronic music is mostly created nowadays.

LAYOUT The layout of my front cover is heavily focused on the main artist of my magazine, as it usually is in music magazines,

The masthead is just above his head, partially blocked out by his image as it is on a lot of magazine covers.

The main coverlines are arranged around the artist so that he remains the focus of the cover.

CONTENTS PAGE

The contents features images with captions that include their page numbers so they can be easily found like on other music magazines.

The important pages are labelled in bold and larger font so my audience (who may only want to see the important things as they are busy) have a quick way of knowing where to go.
