Evaluation: Question 7
Q7. Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?
Planning and Storyboard
• Before making the prelim, we thought about the story line on the spot, and then just jotted down the ideas we have and made a storyboard; it was very last minute.
Planning and Storyboard continued
• Whereas, before making the official thriller film opening, we planned it for days (over nights) and really thought about it and put a lot of concentration into the storyline. We then made a storyboard and a pitch to summaries our ideas.
Camera skills
In this shot from the PRELIM you can see there’s a lot of space above the head as I
enter the scene.
Whereas in the THRILLER OPENING I’ve learnt the
mistake made from the prelim and made sure there isn’t a lot of space above the characters
head.
Camera skills continuedThis shot should have been
done from an over the shoulder shot angle which
would have made the audience more into the film
and make more sense.
However, in the official thriller opening we used over the shoulder shots when the villains stalking me, this
creates more tense and makes the audience more into the
film.
Mise en sceneAs you can clearly see in the print screen, the setting in
the prelim was a total mess, as there was people in the
background and we chose the wrong setting for our prelim.
So we spent a lot of time for the mise en scene for our thriller film and we made
sure it comes out good this time.
TitlesIn the prelim, the title was “The Exchange” and when
your watching the prelim on a large screen, you can barely see the writing of the title
clearly which makes the film look very un-realistic.
In the official final thriller opening film, we put the title
on a dark background to make it stand out more and
we made the text more freaky and tense looking so it
gives the audience a better understanding of the genre of
the film.
Sound
• In the prelim, we didn’t put any music into the background, so all you can hear is the people in the background talking.
• Whereas, in the thriller film, I made a music instead of copyrighting someone else’s music. The music I made is very tensing and suspense, and really blends in with our sub-genre; mystery thriller.
Conclusion of prelim and thriller film
• I am happy to have made mistakes in the prelim because this has made me more aware of common mistakes such as mise en scene, shot types and titles. The mistakes have made me overcome them issues and make sure I don’t make the same mistakes in the final film.
