How Effective Is The Combination Of Your Main Products And Ancillary Products?

• Firstly reintroduce all the ancillary products in order of completion to reflect the production process.

• Then I will annotate them, explaining how and why we created these in the particular and specific ways we did.

• Lastly, I will reflect on the original question by comparing the tasks and talking about particular features that coincide with all the products.

IN THIS PRESENTATION I WILL...

• Our aim, when producing the ancillary and main products, was to find a distinct way in which they could represent one artist no matter how diverse the marketing products are.

• By realising this, we decided that we wanted a common theme featured throughout all of the products.

• As a result of this decision, we felt that the out come of the products are authentic within themselves, but they are also coherent with each other.

• We were aware that we did not want to make the artist’s products look like they are part of a collection or a brand, because we thought this alienates the audience. It is important to note that we personally felt this way from our own experience.

• Therefore, we designed the products to be similar in terms of colour, setting and representation, hoping that audiences will be able to relate these products back to the Artist.

• There are various strategies we used to get this outcome ranging from studying the style of the artist to understanding how audiences perceive the music.

• Paying close attention to the country Genre conventions we managed to balance the products between the artistic preferences and the traditional codes that other products follow.

THE

DIGIPAK

The DigiPak• First of all we did a survey

among friends, family and outer circles to find out if they preferred the Jewel case or the Digipak. From our feedback we found that most people possessed more jewel case albums than the cardboard Digipak because the casing 'looks more professional and sturdy.'

-However, surprisingly many commented on the idea that the Digipak reminds them of the old vinyl casing, which in itself has a unique experience that does not match the modern jewel case. Efficiently, people commented on the jewel case's flaws, claiming that 'they crack easily,' whereas the Digipakstyle is easier to rip.

DIGIPAK

- Our feedback also suggests that most people listen to CDs in their car more than any other place, and so we concluded that it is easier to select a CD out of a Jewel Case than a Digipak.

- This is because it is easier to get out of the plastic casing, rather than the cardboard sleeve, especially if audiences are occupied by driving.

- In conclusion we decided to settle between the two styles and took the cardboard/digipak element and used it for our artwork. More over, we decided to go with the jewel casing as we felt it would be more consistent with modern times and other albums.

The Website• The opening Page of the Website is used to promote the Artist. We specifically chose

the picture of the dirt track (and the Artist) to represent the beginning of the journey as a independent artist in which we believe is very inviting and welcoming to fans of the artist's music.

• The colour scheme in particular was carefully picked in characterization of the album we aim to release and promote. The green, natural, outside atmosphere created on the opening page fits nicely into the lyrics the artist commonly writes in her songs. We felt this picture was the quintessential piece to introduce audiences to the new artist.

• Next we have a Biography which is written by the artist in which fans can engage with and get to know the basic background of the artist. From experience I understand that this personal detail helps audiences relate to the artist and therefore, do not feel alienated by them. I also felt that this is what I expected from the artists I admire and so I wanted to give this element back to viewers of my music.

• We also felt that it was important to have a contact page just in case audiences want to make more inquiries. This also helps the artists connect to her fans in a personal way. I found this was a necessity to help audiences and the artist keep track of each other, on a more direct and personal level. I think building relationships and trust with an audience really helps them remain loyal to you.

• Finally, the viewer of the website can easily access the artists you tube videos by clicking on the sub heading 'Music.' this page gives all the latest audios of what the artist has recently recorded, making the fan feel more included with the action and the current times. All videos are viewed on this page so the viewer will not get distracted by other videos, which commonly happens to audiences on YouTube.

The Extra Promotion Packets• For the promotional Video Visit -http://14victoriajb.blogspot.co.uk/2014/12/magazine-

article.html?view=sidebar

• We created these articles on 'Adobe Photoshop CC 2014". The photograph is an original shot, which also features inside the album pack. This article would be found in our original magazine; "Pasture's sky", where new Folk/ Country artists are introduced. I chose to have the article in the style of an interview so that our audience could find out more about Victoria Boulton through a colloquial way.

• The text/font used serves the purpose of helping audiences associate with the artists signature style, also giving a cutting edge, outstanding finish.

• We used white to contrast with the green background, with a dark brown glow around the outline to make the text look more organic and neutral

The promo video

• The Promo Video is thirty seconds long, which gives audiences a brief taste of what the final product will be on release.

• The audio contains the chorus of the song, which many call the main hook within the lyrics. This technique is important when marketing because the idea is to present the best parts of the product in order to create ‘word of mouth.’

• After this has been achieved audiences are most likely going to be persuaded to watch the video on YouTube. However, this does not generate money, it is simply used to expose the artist to the public eye which enables marketers to judge the reaction.

Promo Video• We decided to put the promo video in black and

white, because it gives a more mysterious and unrevealed concepts within the video.

• This also means that audiences may possibly go on to watch the final video, just to see it in colour.

• In the past many directors have purposely kept their videos in black and white claiming that ‘it inflicts more emotion onto the audiences.’

• however, we felt that the distinguish between past and present events would confuse audiences if all shots were in black and white.

THE FINAL VIDEO

in relation to the Ancillary products.

The opening of the video reflects the journey, which is a common theme within the songsthroughout the EP. In terms of the Ancillaries, specifically the track listing album cover , thisshot captures this element of the artist’sprogression in the industry, and the songlyrically.

One of the most satisfying aspects of this shot ishow it captures the outside world and its naturalenvironment, which surrounds the artist. This isalso reflected in many ancillary products as theyalso feature similar settings in a country, quaintenvironment. The representation in all theproducts, we believe, reflect the artist’s style, interms of lyrics, music and fashion, and this isimportant as it allows audiences to associate theproducts with the artist.

BLUE

‘Blue’ occurs multiple times throughout all productsrelated to the artist. The significance of this tiny detail,we felt, was very important to emphasise on. This isbecause, any fans of the artist will associate ‘blue’ as ametaphoric message relating to the album ‘blue’ byJoni Mitchell , who inspired Victoria to starts writingsongs and creating music. We wanted to portray thisidea in as many products regarding Victoria as much aspossible because we think this is a hint of originality asit explores her musical roots in a concise way.

GENRE CONVENTIONS

Artist in distance but centre of shot, reflecting the idea that there is more stories being told all around, but this song still represent a huge story out of many that will occur in the artists future. The ancillaries also portray this concept.

The grey/white ‘eternal’ sky reflecting the lyrics in the song also relates back to the ancillary products with the use of natural imagery and non man made products.

The green grass and natural setting, perhaps combines all the products in relation to the artist consistently making audiences associate with the artist’s look as a whole.

IN REFELECTION

• We think the combination of our products, ancillary and main, work well to promote each other and each offer the audience insightful information, raging from release dates to metaphoric messages.

• This allows the public to feel more involved with the artist and perhaps feel less alienated by their lifestyle. The relatable images used are easily applied to anyone's life, by the fact they are in simple settings.

• Finally, the products all have a consistent theme throughout them which is an organic, casual and natural looking, making audiences relate the products back to the artists music.
