In what ways does your media product

use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why? (write up in diary)• I would like a media institution such as Bauer to distribute

my music magazine because currently they are distributing popular music magazines and currently on the market there are no popular electronic music magazines that are on a scale such as NME. Where Bauer focuses on distributing magazines such as rock magazines e.g. Kerrang and Q.

• I believe there is a huge market for electronic music magazines and by a large corporation such as Bauer distributing my magazine, I think this would be the correct choice because not only would it allow them to open into a new market but also my magazine would be getting published by a well know institution and therefore could get more of a look in concerning business investors.

• I don’t think it should be distributed by an institution such as Development Hell who already publishes dance music magazines. This could allow my magazine to be confused with others and not allow it to have its own identity.

Who would be the audience for your media product?

How did you attract/address your audience? • Design- I used a minimal house style, focusing more on the content that bright colours. I did this because my audience is aged between 18-24 and is interested in the house scene, house music tends to be of a chilled genre therefore I related this to minimalistic design, pastels, and noise (a glitter effect)• My audience asked for something ‘fresh and new’ in a magazine throughout my initial survey. Therefore the way in which I responded to this to attract my audience was through the articles I generated and the artists I featured. My focus was on producing something that wasn’t safe, wasn’t just another dance music magazine. Instead my magazine targeted issues that were evident in the dance music culture across this age group. E.g. my “do you know what you’re taking?!” article. Drugs are prevalent in the dance music scene, especially raving therefore I wanted to use my magazine to target issues other magazines are scared to do, due to scrutiny. I feel this attracted an audience that matched by audience profile.
