Evaluation question 6

WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNT ABOUT TECHNOLOGIES FROM THE PROCESS OF CONSTRUCTING THIS PRODUCT?

Page 2: Evaluation 6

Technology

While doing my production I had to use several pieces of technological equipment such as: Camera Photoshop CS3 Internet (blogger & Slide share) Lighting I wasn’t familiar with most of these, therefore I learnt how to use during the construction of my production with the help of tutorials.

Lighting

I experimented with my lighting in order to have a range of different lightings in my pictures. Therefore for some photo-shoots I went outside where the lighting was: sometimes darker looked more natural/less harsh. Other times I stayed in the school and used the artificial lighting provided which: looked more professional looked clear Was more advantageous in a way as I could play around with

shadows and angles (more range).

Lighting Experimenting of lighting using school equipment:

Light facing one side of her face, with a shadow created by the angle of the model’s shoulder.

Lighting facing the back of the model, creating shadows in areas like her cheekbone and making the picture look darer overall.

Lighting Experimenting of lighting using natural light outside:

Dark lighting due to cloudy day.

Very bright and Slightly over exposed lighting to model directly facing the sun.

Lighting

To keep my options wide I tried loads of different lightings, for example sometimes I had one light on and the rest off and sometime I would have all of them on. However, I faced several problems with my lighting as I had never manipulated lighting equipment before. So I decided to look at tutorials on YouTube and I learnt about: The positioning of lighting. Which types of lighting to look flattering and which ones don't. The different types of lighting (which I experimented with).

Photoshop In order to edit and manipulate the pictures that I took, I had to use Photoshop CS3, which I had never used before. With Photoshop I was meant to: Edit the pictures (edit blemishes, smooth out skin). Add text Add filtersBefore doing my production my Photoshop skills were very limited to non existent, therefore I used YouTube tutorials on how to use Photoshop CS3 to help me.

Photoshop The use of Photoshop to alter and edit my pictures was an essential part of my production. For example, here for my double page spread I had to:• Flip the picture.• Had various filters.• Make her hair and lips more red.• Make it brighter.• Add some shadows• Edit blemishes • Smooth out the skin• Enhance certain colours.

Camera (Canon) The photography part of this production was arguably the most important part. Since I had never used this type of camera before I looked up some tutorials about the different features such as: Aperture Shutter speed ISOThese tutorials helped me a lot, but I also found simply experimenting helpful and seeing what angles and features of the camera looked the best.

Internet With the use of internet I had to use several websites such as blogger, slide share and YouTube which were all crucial to my production. I need slide share to present my information in an organised

and clear manner. I needed blogger to gather all my research to present onto

the blog itself. I needed YouTube to find tutorials to help me with things I

was unfamiliar with. I need the internet to do most of my research about

magazines and understand the layout of other magazines such as NME in order to help me create my own.

Conclusion

Without these aspects of technology my production would be a lot less professional. Cameras, lighting, internet and Photoshop were crucial to the result of my production. The importance of technology here needs to be emphasised as its essential. Before doing my production I knew very little about these things but now having used all of these technologies I am confident in the process and understanding of all of them due to my experience.
