EVALUATION 7:
Looking back at your
preliminary task, what do you
feel you have learnt in the
progression from it to the full
product?
The genre of my music magazine is Rap/R&B, and the aims
were create a magazine based upon a genre who my choice
which I intended to target the audience of both Rap and R&B
and both male and female aged between 16 and 24.
From doing my preliminary task, I have a much better
understanding on how the conventions of a music magazine
works. Doing my preliminary task required me to look at
many different magazines at their structure and layout so my
magazine would look realistic and fit in with others like it.
After analysing my final Front cover, contents page and double page spread, I have realised
that I have used many different features of both Photoshop and InDesign to achieve my specific
layout and structure which I wanted. My skills have definitely developed and especially improved
over the course of the production of my product in comparison to my preliminary task which I
crated using Photoshop which at that point I didn’t understand how to use it or what it was for
other than to edit photos and therefore my preliminary product had limited features on it and
didn’t look professional at all. Although, I had used Photoshop at the beginning of the project to
create my preliminary task, I can clearly see a massive improvement in my use of the features it
offers. To achieve all three of my preliminary task, mock ups and my final production, I took the
images with a professional camera in a photographic studio which allowed me to get used to
using a professional camera whereas I’m used to using my IPhone 5 as a camera at home. The
lighting in the studio allowed me to give a high quality appearance to my images which enhances
the models appearance and good looks to give a good final image. I managed to shot various
shots of my model such as close up, full length shots and a long shot in case I wished to use in
the my magazine to make each page look different and show different aspects to my model to
show the ways he presents himself.
My preliminary task was a lot different to that of my final
product due to the use of mise-en-scene because my preliminary
task was based on a school magazine compared to my music
magazine based on both Rap and R&B genre of music. Preliminary task:
MOCK UPS
In my mock ups, there are many things missing e.g. Price, Social media icons and a tag line. I do believe that compared to my preliminary tasks my mocks are considerably more accurate to magazines that are on the market at the moment.
FINAL PRODUCTS

FINAL PRODUCTS
Double page spread …..
From my first
preliminary task to my
final product, I have
learnt how to use many
different software’s
accurately, precisely and
effectively to achieve a
good quality product
with the use of functions
and features of a music
magazine, you can
clearly see my more
improvement in these
areas across the three
different sets of images.
As you will be able to see that there are many
conventions missing from the school magazine
preliminary task such as the use of borders and
pull quotes etc. The conventions of a typical
music magazine are slightly different to those of a
school magazine due to the factor that there is a
larger audience the school magazine has to
appeal to for example, the students, the teachers
and parents which are all different age groups.
My use of typical conventions of a music
magazine has clearly improved throughout each
stage of the course through my mock-ups and
final product.
For my final product, I managed to produce a design that my
target audience accepted to see, as this would satisfy their needs. I
also learnt how to use a limited amount of space and gain minimum
attention from the target audience with a simple structure and
layout.
I have definitely improved and progressed from my preliminary
task to the mock-ups and my final design, as you can clearly see that
my final design is much more detailed with the range of conventions
I used and looks therefore more realistic and professional.
