Evaluation of Magazine Fashion Spread

What your intentions were when you took the photograph?My intensions when taking this photograph was to express the positivity of which the summer provides everybody with. To do a fashion spread on a sport is very fitting for theme of summer as sports as such as basketball are simply much more fun in the summer when it is warm and you can wear shorts and short sleeves tops and go out with your friends all day long and have a great time and my intensions were to represent this.

How the final image fulfils your intentions?The final image fulfils my intensions very well. Initially, I had the model stand much more central and face more towards the camera however after trying a lot of different positions for both me and the model, I decided having the model slightly to one side and facing elsewhere looks much more appropriate and less dull than if he was central and looking straight towards the camera.

How the image is appropriate for the fashion spread of a teenage lifestyle magazine; and the specific issue you have created?This image is very appropriate for a teenage lifestyle magazine, and more specifically the theme of summer for this audience as, firstly, the model himself is a teenager, therefore the target audience can immediately relate to the model being they are a similar age. Also, the image is very relatable are almost nobody who is a teenagers can afford to have a basketball court in their back garden however, almost everybody has or has a friend with a basketball net on the side of their house, making it even more relatable than if I was to take the image on an actual court.

The meaning created in the image?The meaning created in this photograph is to portray the feeling and simplicity of playing sports as such as basketball in the summer on the side of a house. The summer is a very positive time of the year and sports in general are enjoyable for most people, and when combining the two, it is even better and I wanted to represent that in this image by ensuring the models facial expression shows this.

How well the combination of image and text works?The combination of text and image works very well on this image as the image itself has a dark effect to it, due to the dark pavement on the drive way by his house, therefore I wanted to contradict this darkness with a very bright, outgoing coloured font. Although it unclear due to the shadow effect caused by the sun, the writing of which is on the basketball net around the outside is actually a similar turquoise colour, and I believe using this colour for my text actually makes that more clear and writing on the net look less grey and dark.

The meaning created?The meaning created due to the added text is very important, as it reinstates the outgoing vibe of which was necessary to ensure the fashion spread represents summer. It was very important to get more colour on the image as that is the one thing that it is lacking. The bright coloured font and urban text style combine to make a very fitting fashion spread and this with the facial expression of which the model is making combine to create a positive summer themed fashion spread.

How it is appropriate for the target audience?Again, this is appropriate for the target audience most obviously due to the fact that the model is of a similar age to the target audience therefore making it immediately relatable for them. Also, the font of which the writing is in is very fashionable and fresh which is appealing for the target audience as they are at an age of which will find the text font potentially very appealing.

How it fulfils my intentions?It fulfils my intensions very well, as in the original image, the biggest negative was the darkness of which was made due to the black floor, however, I was able to adjust this in photo by increasing the brightness, which is very important considering it is a summer themed fashion spread meaning it must be very bright. The font and colour of the text fulfils my intensions very well as it adds colour to the image that it was missing and reinstates the summer theme that must be represented.

What your intentions were when you took the photograph?My intensions when taking this image was to represent summer via the hot tub in the background. It is a simple concept as outdoor hot tubs are not used in the winter or basically any other time than summer bar the odd occasion. I wanted to signify that some sort of pool party is going on therefore chose this angle to hint that there are more people behind and to the side of the camera. Therefore, to position the model by a hot tub in swimming trunks and no top makes it very clear that the theme of the magazine is summer as trunks are only worn when you go swimming and the models top being off shows that the whether is lovely which is a key part of summer.

How the final image fulfils your intentions?The final image fulfils my intension of representing summer via the hot tub theme very well. To emphasise this theme, I added mise en scene to the image as such as the cup in the models hand and the ones positioned on the hot tub. Again, the fact there are several cups implies this is some sort of pool party, as does the fact that the model is looking elsewhere as thought he is talking to someone which is the intension that I had.

How the image is appropriate for the fashion spread of a teenage lifestyle magazine; and the specific issue you have created?This image is very appropriate for the fashion spread of a teenage lifestyle magazine, and more specifically a summer themed one as pool parties are quite a common occasion for teenagers therefore this image is very relatable, and even more so considering that the model is also the same age as those who are the target audience for this fashion spread.

The meaning created in the image?The meaning that is created in the photograph is that the model is attending or hosting a pool party and this meaning is created by several things in this image. Firstly, the model is facing elsewhere as though he is conversing with someone else at the party, also there are several cups placed on the hot tub hinting that several people are there and lastly the positioning of the camera does not show much of the garden what so ever so there is a lot of room for other people to be, of which is not in front of the camera.

How well the combination of image and text works?The combination of image and text works very well on this image as I matched the outgoing yellow trunks by making the text on the fashion spread a similar yet even brighter yellow colour. The bright yellow colour of which is dominant is this fashion spread is very appropriate as it represents summer very well as the summer is related to the sun which is of course yellow. Additionally, yellow is a very bright, outgoing, positive colour in general therefore it fits the positive atmosphere I wish to create with these fashion spreads.

The meaning created?The meaning of which is created is, as previously mentioned, is to create a happy atmosphere and represent summer in as many ways as possible, as such as the setting, colour scheme and mise en scene.

How it is appropriate for the target audience?This is appropriate for the target audience of teenagers as previously mentioned, pool parties are quite a common occurrence, and people of this age want to look as fashionable as possible as possible, therefore the outgoing yellow swim shorts are not only very eye-catching meaning the photo will get attention, but they are also very fashionable for teenagers that want to stand out if they attend a pool party.

How it fulfils my intentions?It fulfils my intensions as I believe the biggest downfall of the original image was the left hand side of which shown the gate of which surrounds the garden as it was very messy and dark therefore it did not fit the theme or the image in general at all, so being able to crop it off and enlarge the main subjects of the model and the hot tub looks very good.

What your intentions were when you took the photograph?My intensions when taking this image was to show the type of activities you can do in the summer and what the appropriate outfits when doing these activities are. Scootering is much more fun in the summer, as although you can go to indoor skate parks and have a great time, much like a lot of things, it is simply much better outside in the summer when it is really sunny and you can have a good time with your mates.

How the final image fulfils your intentions?The final image fulfils my intensions fairly well, initially I wanted to centralise the model however, he is positioned to the left of the image and I believe that it actually looks much better like this. The model is a very good distance away from the camera and the colour scheme is very summery with a lot of blue and green in the image.

How the image is appropriate for the fashion spread of a teenage lifestyle magazine; and the specific issue you have created?This image is very appropriate for the fashion spread of a teenage lifestyle magazine, and more specifically a summer themed one as the model of which is riding the scooter is a teenager himself and from my understanding, the majority of people of which scoot are teenagers, therefore making it much more relatable.

The meaning created in the image?The meaning that I wished to create when taking this was to imply that the model is on his travels, in the summer, to meet his friends who are also on there scooters, this is very hard to show via one model however it is an action shot so the model is travelling somewhere.

How well the combination of image and text works?The combination of image and text works incredibly well for this particular fashion spread because the colour scheme of blue and green is very dominant in this fashion spread therefore the bright colour of which I decided to make the font is very suitable and fitting when considering the image and how the two things combine.

The meaning created?The meaning that is created via using a light green for the text is reinstating the summer theme and helps add more colour to the fashion spread as the majority of the green of which is in the image is much darker.

How it is appropriate for the target audience?The fashion spread is appropriate for the target audience of teenagers as the model in the fashion spread is a teenager and scootering in general is very appealing for teenagers therefore they may be interested in the suitable clothing when scootering so this is even more appropriate for teenagers.

How it fulfils my intentions?It fulfils my intensions very well as there is a clear colour scheme and this colour scheme very obviously represents summer. In Photoshop by adjusting the contrast and brightness I was able to enhance the green logo on the models top which suits the text very well and combine to look very professional.

What your intentions were when you took the photograph?My intensions when taking this image was to represent summer in a peculiar way, instead of the obvious way of represent summer via sunshine and positivity, I wanted to represents the warm nights of summer. To do so I wanted a setting of which shows the model prepared for a picnic and waiting for his acquaintance to join him. I wanted to make this clear via the mise en scene and clothing of which the model is wearing, however it is very hard to represent summer in the dark. How the final image fulfils your intentions?The final image fulfils my intensions very well as after playing with the brightness and contrast on Photoshop, I was able to make the image look very suitable for a summer theme despite it being dark. I purposefully chose an image of which was landscape as it is much easier to represent the theme via the mise en scene when using a landscape image as you have more choice of what is in the image, conclusively, it fills intensions of represent a summer theme at night very well considering it is a very hard task.

How the image is appropriate for the fashion spread of a teenage lifestyle magazine; and the specific issue you have created?This image is very appropriate for the fashion spread of a teenage lifestyle magazine, and more specifically a summer at night themed one as the model is a teenager, which makes it immediately relatable, and the concept of a picnic is very simply and anybody can do it at any age, including teenagers, which makes it even more relatable if they could replicate what is happening in the image.

The meaning created in the image?The meaning that is created in the image is that summer is not all about the sun and daytime, it is also very fun at night as it gets dark much later and there is plenty to do regardless of the time of day. The theme is portrayed via the mise en scene of the pic basket, the food inside it, the grapes that the model is picking and the attire of which the model is wearing, most obviously being the sun glasses which implies that it is still hot despite it being dark.

How well the combination of image and text works?The combination of image and text works extremely well in this fashion spread, due to the fact that as previously mentioned, I wanted to represent summer without the daylight and sun being the most obvious convention of it, however, for those of which do not initially understand the summer theme the fashion spread represents, the outgoing yellow font of which is often linked with summer will help them understand the theme of which this fashion spread is based around.

The meaning created?The meaning of which I have already explained about the summer being just as enjoyable at night is simply reinstated by the bright yellow font and made more obvious. Although the image doesn’t lack colour with the blanket and colouring of the food packaging, more colours being added with the yellow font just adds to the image and helps show the theme.

How it is appropriate for the target audience?It is appropriate for the target audience of teenagers as the model is a teenager which of course is relatable for the target audience of teenagers. Additionally, if the context of the image which includes a teenager having a picnic with a friend appeals to someone in the target audience, they may wish to obtain suitable smart, yet summery clothing so this also is appropriate for the target audience.

How it fulfils my intentions?It fulfils my intensions entirely as my aim was to represent summer at night time and I believe I have achieved that very well. The landscape shot helps me get everything important in the image as such as the picnic, blanket and of course all of the clothing. The text suits the image very well considering that the lighting of the image is dark yet the yellow is exceptionally bright which contrast very well and it helps the fashion spread stand out.
