IntroductionMy project was to create a magazine which would be looked at as a professional magazine. My job was to create everything within the magazine I was about to create, this includes picking and choosing different types of fonts that would suit my magazine, taking pictures of a person who would later on be the main focus of my magazine and then I would and did Photoshop every good picture of that person and put them on and in my magazine.

I worked alone on this project although I had help of a teacher who showed me how to use and work the lighting equipment for my pictures, My contribution to the project were to use equipment such as Photoshop and InDesign in order to create my magazine front cover, contents page and a double page spread which would help me to make my magazine look and sell as a professional magazine to my target audience.

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

The appearance of my magazine represents the female, pretty and girly social group as it full of bright, bold colours which makes it eye catching to my target audience.

My magazine fits in to my stereotype as it shows the colours of what a young girl is believed to be interested in such as pink and white, it also shows an attractive, fashionable model which other female buyers of the magazine would look up to as my model looks incredibly feminine as she is wearing make-up and has a pretty, short dress on.

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

The double page spread also fits in to my girly, pop stereotype as in the bottom right picture shows my model to be cheeky, flirty and fun which is known is society for a girl to act which will help to sell my magazine as my young girly target audience will look up to my model and will want to buy the magazine.

To follow, the lighting I used to whilst taking my pictures of my model also helped to make my model to fit in to the stereotype that I wanted to get across to my target audience of young girly girls. I used the butterfly effect lighting to help make my photographs of my model to make her look incredibly tanned and healthy which will appeal to my audience as young girls will also aspire to look healthy and attractive just like my model does throughout the magazine.

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

I would pick the company EMAP to produce and distribute my magazine as it fits the genre of my magazine perfectly which is music and fashion.

Another reason why i would also pick EMAP to produce my magazine would be because the company and the profits it make through the magazine is just over £38 million! and so is highly successful therefore would be reliable for my magazine and its profits and selling techniques.

I think that EMAP would want to publish my magazine as my magazine is highly attractive and engages my target audience really well with all of the images and photographs on the front cover, on the other hand there aren't really any pop genre music based magazines out there that are selling in the shops and so I think my magazine would be fun and an easy thing to sell out in the shops by my target audience.

Who would be the audience for your media product?

To define who would be suitable for my magazine it would be my target audience who would be a feminine, fashionable, attractive 14 - 25 year old female. A woman who finds it interesting to find out all the latest gossip on the most famous celebrity's and music would want to buy this magazine as it contains gossip, music and shopping bargains information.

This sort of age range that is the 14 – 25 year old are the ones that do tend to be the age that are in to all of the latest music and fashion and so this audience are my target audience as my magazine is based on all of the things and contains all of the information that this audience finds exciting to read about and to look at.

The magazine that I have created isn't likely to have any sort of a secondary target audience as it is specifically made towards and to intrigue my specific target audience of the female 14 – 25 year old.

How did you attract/address your audience?

The genre of my magazine is pop and so this attracts my young feminine audience. My magazine is based on a young girl that has just come in to the music industry and how she is coping with all of the new fame, the magazine also includes tour dates and an exclusive interview with this new pop star which will interest my young and trendy audience. The costume that my model is wearing represents that she is a glamorous, fashionable icon which interest my attractive young female audience that I have tried to get across from this magazine. The action of my model “blowing a kiss” shows that the star is a fun person, she is posing to show that she a cheeky, laughable girl which all girly females aspire to be in order to get attention from males maybe.

How did you attract/address your audience?

The title of my Magazine attracts my target audience with its bold, feminine color which will interest the younger audience as the title “MagRag” is a fun and an interesting word to use to attract the 14 to 25 age range I stated in my audience slide.

The use of lighting whilst taking all of the photographs is used in all of the pictures, the contents page shows one picture (top middle) that is made to make the model look tanned and airbrushed which is commonly used in all magazines, I have done this to make my model look admirable and to bring in the feminine, attractive target audience for my magazine.

The comparison between my practise magazine and my professional magazine

There is a huge difference between the two magazine front covers that are shown on the previous slide.

This front cover is very basic as all of the colours that are used on the cover all clash, they aren’t eye catching and overall the magazine looks extremely boring to look at which will bring in no audience. This front cover does include strap lines and various subheadings that stand out on the cover but the fonts that are used are very basic and boring to look at which makes the magazine look incredibly formal.

The comparison between my practise magazine and my professional magazine

This magazine front cover looks far more professional than the previous one, all of the colours that are used are all eye catching and attractive and the use of colours make it obvious who the target audience would be therefore my target audience won't have too look twice before they know that this magazine is for them.
