Pros• First off, we have a video of how to
properly interview someone for a documentary. Now, in terms of research, this was a step in the right direction…but then it was not much further done to ‘react’ to this information
• Straight afterwards, we have the interview with professional Docu-Film maker Nick Hamer. This shows an ability to work outside the classroom to obtain information from experts in the field
• This is split into two videos; one dealing with the interview itself, and the other with Nick Hamer’s top tips for budding documentary film makers. In terms of research, this is good as it provides something to react to…
• …which is partially addressed in the final video, which deals with separate focus-groups. These were done in separate styles of ‘interview’ to reflect what we had learnt from the interview with Nick Hamer.
Cons• As I said, there is not
much ‘response’ to the initial video, which would help show that the student (i.e. me) has acknowledged the information provided by the video
Pros• There are multiple uses of quotes
taken from books written by a particular theorist (e.g. T.E.Perkins), with content relevant to the post. This is then explained in my own words, using examples from the product
• There is also details concerning three major narrative theories, which are applied to the product, and explained {which show good research in terms of narrative theories, and planning through the application as it helps provide an idea of what our final product could contain}
• At the end, there is the use of a video to help simplify these narrative theories, and apply them creatively to the product subject (i.e. the police in Leicester). This shows a response to the research, which expresses how I understand the concepts, and can apply them to our product
Cons• It can be argued here
that too much emphasis was made on the theories, which could have a negative effect on my creativity as I attempt to get my ‘narrative’ to fit exactly into these narrative frameworks
Pros• In terms of planning,
the idea is clearly laid out, and summed up through pros and cons
• Although each idea is different, there are key conventions of an action film which are inside each ‘idea’ (e.g. police figures), which links into the ideas I had done research into for my AS project…
Cons• …however, in terms of
research, there is not much to show ‘where’ this information has come from. Although in previous posts, there are quotes and information obtained from outside sources referenced, none of these appear in this post.
• Perhaps they should, as it shows clearly the ideas obtained through research that have been carried forward
Cons• In terms of research, this is a disaster.• Although I have obtained sources of information
relating to ‘current’ events, there is no in depth analysis of any of these articles
• Response is critical in terms of research, as it allows the reader of the blog to see that you have not just sourced external material, but have read it, understood it and expressed the key points that relate to your product in your own words. Here, there are only sources, with a paragraph comment at the end to relate it to the product.
