Evaluation In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge

forms and conventions of real media products?

My first design was my front cover of my music magazine, I believe that this follows the conventions of media products as I have used many features which are included in real life products for example I have used a skyline and an incentive banner and you see these on many professional music magazines as we can see both of these photos show that incentive banners are used. (the top pictures is my created magazine) also I have used the flash on my front cover and this is to show that I have a competition in the magazine. On my magazine I have added a barcode as it is integral in the sale of my magazine as without it the magazine would not be sold. I also included a price, one which is good in comparison to my competitors. On the front cover I also put the title over the top of my image as I would like people to see the name of the magazine as it isn’t well known and I do need to make sure that the brand is recognised first before anything else.

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

On my contents page I have again followed the conventions of real media products as I have used a main image on the page, the photo also has its own story below it which means most magazine do. I have used a main features section of my contents page which many magazines use as people will be able to know what’s in the magazine. I think that my contents page it differing from others as I have added social media tags for Facebook twitter and Instagram which means that I am giving the fans the opportunity to keep up to date with their favourite magazine. Also as you can see I have added my title to the contents page as I believe it is a good idea as it means that people will know the magazine they are reading and it is a subtle way for them to remember our name.

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

For my double page spread I used a couple of the features that are used in real magazines, so again I am using the conventions of the real magazine industry. Firstly I used the drop cap on my article and this is used all the time in real music magazines and I thought that this feature had to be used. On the double page spread I used a pull quote as this makes the audience want to read on and find out what the quote is about. To differ from the conventions I have added a writers photo at the bottom ad this is unusual in magzines but I felt it was a good idea as it gives a face to the writer of the article.

How does your media product represent particular social groups ?

The intended audience of my magazine is rock fans and on my front cover I feel that I have put someone on there who represents the genre, I also made the magazines colour scheme red black and yellow as these colours are common in most magazines that are associated with the rock genre. I also feel the font looks rustic and worn and this is a stereotypical view that people who will like the magazine will enjoy the rough look of my magazine.

How does your media product represent particular social groups ?

I feel that my contents page represents my intended audience as it had all the rock artists on it that people will enjoy and I think with people seeing these artists they will like the magazine more as it will have their favourite artists in there. I also added the gig guide to my contents page as it will appeal to the audience.

What kind of media institution might distribute you media product and why?

I believe that gannett company might distribute my media product as they don’t have very much outside of america, also I think that it would be good as it would mean that we would be their pioneering media type abroad from america. This company also doesn’t have any music magazines as of yet and the chief exec has made it clear that he wants the compete on the national stage and also i believe it would be good for the editor and the company as we could produce a good magazine.

How did you attract/address your audience?

I attracted the audience by making my products interesting and good to look at, i feel that my magazine is a good fit for the intended audience as everything i have put in the magazine is there to attract the audience. I have used the covermound as a point of sale as it will make people want to win free stuff with the magazine. And lastly i addressed the audience in a relaxed and friendly way, i decided to do this as people would rather be treated like a person rather than just a consumer.
