Q1: In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge

forms and conventions of real media products?

Zareen Malik

Page 2: Evaluation q1

I developed the conventions of real media products with the masthead. This is because I added a white shadow to the initial black masthead. This is developing the conventions because most music magazines have a background to the masthead whereas mine has a shadow instead and is big, bold and across the whole of the top of the page.

I followed the same form of conventions of real media products in that I incorporated the barcode on the bottom right hand corner of the page just like every other magazine. I did this because the positioning of the barcode is not an element that needs to be changed neither will changing it make much of a difference. It is situated at the bottom of the page so it doesn’t get in the way of the other conventions on the page.

I followed the same form of conventions of real media products in that I incorporated my main cover line anchored to the main image just like other music magazines. This text is big and bold, the text with her name in standing out more. to place focus on her persona.

I followed the same form of conventions of real media products in that the image I’ve used on my front cover is big and striking with the artist staring right at the camera, to create a more focused image and look to the front cover.

I followed the same form of conventions of real media products in that I’ve incorporated the date at the top of the page like other magazines not only music magazines.

I followed the same form of conventions of real media products in that, like the other indie magazines I studied (Q for example) I’ve only kept one cover line to place more emphasis and focus on the image and not to make the page look crowded.

I followed the same form of real media products in that like other magazines, I have incorporated text along a footer at the bottom of the page. However, unlike other magazines I have kept the text without a coloured background because I didn’t want to include too many text boxes on the page which is challenging the conventions of real media products.

I have developed the forms of real media products by including a box of some of the key information that will be included within the magazine. I have outlined the box with a white shadow/glow to make it stand out and to also not allow it to collide and get mixed up and lost within the image.

I’ve followed the conventions of real media products in that I have kept the fonts consistent and clear, which is what the texts on other magazines are like. I have not made them too extravagant or sharp.

I have followed the conventions of real media products by keeping the fonts and text the same and having them consistent right from the front cover.

I have followed the conventions of real media products in that I have kept the background plain as so not to distract away from the content on the page and an image would have also taken away from the professionalism of the contents page. Also, I have incorporated a convention I like on a Q magazine contents page by inserting two vertical black line down the sides of the page to give it more structure and edge.

I have followed conventions of real media products in that I have, instead of writing out the whole name, incorporated the letter ‘S’ instead of Slash to create a look that is more unique and different. Also, this can be used throughout to create a particular brand image of the magazine and so it would be easily recognised with a simple letter.

Another way in which I have followed the conventions of real media products is by including images of artists like other magazines that I researched such as Q and NME.I have also included black text boxes across the artists pictures to shoe who they are and on what page number you can find them which is following the typical conventions of real media products because it’s important for the reader to know where everything within the magazine is located so that it is easy to find.

I have followed the conventions of real media products in that the contents page is structured into sections. Also, as there would be a lot of pages in the magazine, I have not included what would be on every single page as this would take up far too much room so I have kept the main and most important features like other magazines.

I have made red a consistent colour scheme on this page, as it is typically used in indie magazines, and also because it fits in nicely with the black white and grey scheme on the page. I have developed this by making the page numbers red so that they stand out easily to the reader who wants to know where to find everything in the magazine.

I have followed the conventions of real media products in that I have included the page number at the bottom is a compulsory aspect so that the readers know what page they are on so the magazine is easy to locate around.

The date is also included from the front cover which is following the standard forms and conventions.

I have followed and developed the conventions of real media products in that I’ve picked a quote from the article which I felt stood out and decided to make it the focus of my article. I spread it out over the two pages and developed the conventions by making one half of the text white and the other half black. This was to make sure the text was able to stand out against the image while looking bold and consistent at the same time with the consistent colour scheme.

I have followed the conventions of real media products in that I’ve given a brief description in the form of a sentence as to who and what the article is about. I have developed this convention by including this text within a black text box which fits in with my colour scheme and allows the white text to seem important and eye catching on the page.

Below the heading, I have included a small paragraph setting the scene for the article. This follows the conventions of real media products in that introduces the artist and the article by giving a description of what is going on, drawing the reader in to it.

I have followed the conventions of real media products in that I have incorporated an image which fits in with the style of my magazine and is consistent to the rest of it. The image looks unique and is located on the whole of the left hand side as this was a popular, simple but effective look in the magazines I researched and gives the magazine more structure and organisation.

I have followed the conventions of real media products in that I have included the page number at the bottom of the page just like the contents page. I have followed similar conventions in that I have included the ‘S’ to convey the brand I have intended to create and the ‘S’ which is to allow the magazine to be much more easily recognised.

I have developed and challenged the conventions of real media products in that I have included a banner in the right hand corner of the page emphasising the exclusivity of the article. This is challenged because the magazines that I studied did not incorporate the use of such of feature and instead used other methods to display the word ‘exclusive’ such as simple text beneath the header.
