Main Image, Bar Code)Layout of the Contents Page (Heading, Subheadings,
Text, Image/Images)Layout of the Double Page Spread (Heading, Image,
Text, Pull Quote)Colour
In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
The layout of my music magazine is similar to other rock magazines, like Kerrang! & Classic RocK. I used the usual conventions of a magazine such as, the masthead and features however. The layout of my magazine (The Symphony) is different from other existing magazines whereas, the main conventions of the magazine such as, masthead, date, etc; are not changed, they are in the standard format.

While creating a magazine, there are some things to bekept in mind such as, appearance and format. A magazine should look representable, as audience ismostly attracted through appearance rather than the articles in it. Each type of magazine has its own theme, depends upon the genre. Appearance also makes the brand of the magazine recognizable to the audience. Colours are necessary for a magazine, in order to make
itmore attractive. Whereas, a colour scheme should be
setfor the magazine, to make it more consistent.
Colour/Appearance
I have used number of generic forms and conventions related to the genre, Rock and was inspired by two of the existing rock magazines, Classic Rock and Kerrang!.

If we compare my magazine’s masthead with any other
existing magazine, then it is quite different. Most of the
rock music magazines uses simple fonts but I have used
a different font as compared to the other magazines, as
shown below:

The main artist in my magazine’s cover page is looking straight so a reader could see the artist’s attention towards him/her. When a reader would hold it, he/she could feel that the artist is looking at him/her.
Direct Mode of Access
There is no such comparison between the features of my magazine with any other, as most of the rock magazines have similar features.

The main image of the magazine’s cover page plays an important role. It is necessary in order to enhance the appearance of a magazine and to enhance the attraction of a magazine towards the audience.
The main image should be a close-up or a mid-shot.
If we talk about my magazine’s main image, I decided to take a mid-shot and keep the background pure and crude, as shown below:
Main Image
In most of the magazines, the placement of the bar code
is towards the left bottom and I have used the same placement in
my magazine as well.
Bar Code Placement Comparison
Issue number/date of the magazine is mostly placed below or near the masthead.
Only in few magazines it is placed somewhere else on the cover page. There are also some editions of the magazines on
which the issue date has not mentioned.
Issue Number/Date
The color scheme of my music magazine’s cover page is Black, Blue, Green, Off-White, Red and Orange.

Color Scheme
I have kept the heading of my music magazine’s contents page on the top left because very less magazines follow this placement and I wanted to show a rare look.
Heading
The sub-headings given on my magazine’s contents page are way too simple as I made them easy to read for the audience and less complicated.
Sub-Headings
I have used a dark, main and second image, in order to create a dull look as dull colors are used to represent Hard Rock and Metal music.

I have placed the main image of double page spread’s page on the left page and the image is of a solo artist.
Black & white effects are used in order to make it historic.
Main Image
I wrote the text in such a style that is used in some issues of the Billboard Music Magazine. The writing style is way too simple and it is easy to read for the reader.
Text
The pull quote has written in a standard way and it is one of the most attractive material in the whole magazine. Mostly readers are used to read the pull quotes, especially, when it is the matter of music.
Pull Quote
“FOR ME, AUDIENCE IS MY FAMILY”
Page numbers are positioned in a standard way, as they are positioned in most of the magazines. The double page spread has a two page layout and it is necessary to mention the page numbers as double page spread is placed in the center of the magazine.
