My video is effective as it both supports and contradicts the stereotype of the Indie Rock genre. It supports the genre by use of props – such as the guitar, narrative – which is typical of an Indie rock video, settings and mise en scene – portraying the main characters as working class, which makes them and the story more relatable as they are within the same social zone as them.

ANCILLARY 1

My creation for the first ancillary is effective as it reflects the uniqueness of the genre. This expected ability to remain unique and separate from other groups and artists within this genre is clearly presented and portrayed by the added Hue/Saturation placed into each image, before carefully being selected and positioned into a specific location. I followed this idea after researching different contemporary artists on the internet.

ANCILLARY 2My second Ancillary is effective as it partially sets the scene of the video itself. It has an image of the main male character travelling up a road in the rain, which can be commonly found in this genre – as it helps to create a depressive, gloomy mood that music videos and songs tend to create. The simple contrast between the background, image and text is effective as it makes the image stand out and work in conjunction with the other areas. This is helpful as it then brings attention to the name of the song and date of release – following the Guttenberg design principle by placing these strategically.
