WHAT KIND OF MEDIA INSTITUTION MIGHT DISTRIBUTE YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT AND WHY?

Molly Mitchell - Media

Page 2: Evaluation: Question 3

Which media company would publish your magazine and why?

Future PLC would be most suited to my magazine, as they publish magazines such as Hammer, Classic Rock and Total Guitar, all of which demonstrate different genres of music. With this in mind, Ska-Core is a nonconventional genre and would therefore fit in the media company’s current magazines. Total Guitar is about honing the skills of a guitarist but, it also covers a wide variety of music to play on the guitar. Hammer and Classic Rock are different in genre, yet are published by the same house. Also, Future PLC “continue to evolve and expand” their music listening magazines, where in which they matched Blondie and Slash; two very different iconic artists and genres. Hammer and Classic Rock’s target audience is more aimed at men and the age range 16-34, with the medium age 24. My target audience is men and women aged 16-26, so it fits in well with the companies existing and similar magazines. The media company, Future PLC is also international and my magazines features and acknowledges up and coming foreign bands to the UK.

Who might advertise in your magazine and why?

In the target audience for my magazine and considering the Ska-Core scene, a lot of people have dreaded hair. Either for religious reasons or for style preference therefore, having advertisements for ‘Lock Shops’ would work within the realms of my magazine, like ‘Knotty Boy’.

Advertisements for buying instruments would be suitable, mainly for the part of it being a music magazine. Therefore, musicians can have an insight on great places to go for great instruments, deals etc. Such as, GuitarGuitar who are the UK’s largest guitar store.

Would your magazine have an ‘online presence’? Would it be appropriate to have an online version of your magazine, why?

My magazine would have an online version of the magazine as more people get their information from the internet, and websites.

An online version of the magazine could hold more information and perhaps some teasers on who may be featured in the next issue.

It’s easier to access information and articles, especially when buying magazines isn’t your first option.

A chance to hold polls, votes for awards and competitions through the website, as it would be difficult to control the feedback information from these, through a magazine.

Would you invest in an App for the App Store, Android?

I would invest in an App for mobile phones, as people use their phones a lot more than previously.

Having an App for the magazine will make it more accessible to a wider market, and therefore creating new readers.

Creating an App is another way to make money for the magazine, which is as important as selling physical copies.

Having an App is more convenient than flicking through a magazine, or searching through a website.
